To be upset by this in a friends group chat?

I’m well aware that this will sound silly, but here goes.

i’m in a group chat with some other women of a similar age as me. We all met because we are fans of a sport. Last weekend that sport concluded and the competitor that I’m not a huge fan of won. No big deal, I’m an adult and I can cope with it.

One member of the group chat was @ ing me through the entire day, basically asking if I was really annoyed, am I pissed off etc etc and just being a bit weird.

i said no not really and left it at that. I went onto the shared document we have of addresses in preparation to send my Christmas cards and I can see that this person has now added comments to my address. It’s my name then (stinks) and under my address they’ve put shithole. From the edit history I can see that this was done by the member who was acting strangely last weekend and was done on the day of the last race.

AIBU to think this is weird behaviour and also a little upsetting? We’re all adults and it just seems strange.

Surprisingly neither!

She’s come back and basically said that it was a “big day for her” and I “put a dampener on spirits” because i wasn’t bursting with joy.

essentially a very weird individual who apparently thinks it was a personal thing for her!

That’s even more peculiar behaviour. You didn’t jump for joy when your team didn’t win so she felt she had to write rude comments on a shared document.

is she 9?

YourZippyHare · 14/12/2025 17:49

Who's the admin in this group? Someone needs to kick her out.

Overtheatlantic · 14/12/2025 17:50

Edit her address to The Priory.

MonGrainDeSel · 14/12/2025 17:50

She sounds unhinged. Even if it was something that was genuinely upsetting to her, that's no way to behave! This does not fall into the category of genuinely upsetting and I'd be treating her with caution from now on because she seems to have about as much sense of proportion as your average toddler.

Clefable · 14/12/2025 17:50

She’s doing a good job of making herself look increasingly ridiculous in front of everyone!

Something I’ve found in these spaces (and I hate to say it because I sound so horrible) is that a lot of fans of certain athletes can behave a lot like teenage fans of one direction used to. Very unhinged behaviour.

Is she Lando’s mum or something, and that’s why it was a big day for her?

or is she on glue?

TheatricalLife · 14/12/2025 17:52

What a self obsessed odd ball. I'd have to put a laughing emoji and leave it at that. There is absolutely no point arguing with someone that stupid.

HouseofDreams · 14/12/2025 17:52

This is very strange behaviour of her and I would be really annoyed too OP

have any of the others commented?

BadgernTheGarden · 14/12/2025 17:53

MotherofPufflings · 14/12/2025 16:40

Utterly bizarre and childish behaviour. I'm not sure there is much to be gained from reacting to it, I'd just ignore and give her a wide berth from now on

Go Lando!

Yeah I’ve just laugh reacted it because what do you say to a self certified fruit loop

I wonder what the rest of the group made of it.

Not only wanting you to be ecstatic for her win but for you to be actively upset - what a bee-yatch!

Has no-one else commented?

BadgernTheGarden · 14/12/2025 18:00

People do get a bit obsessive about their favourite drivers and favourite teams, I like Williams and Alex so no chance of winning anything this year, roll on the new regulations and a chance for the midfield teams next year.

aha - one of THOSE sports fans who can't just be happy their team has won, but has to enjoy the utter misery of those whose team lost or didn't win.

I have absolutely no time for that kind of bollocks (and i am a football team season ticket holder, so fairly invested)

MissRaspberry · 14/12/2025 18:06

She sounds quite childish. I'd probably take screenshots of her edits and post them in the group chat with her tagged in the message asking her what her problem is. Call her out publicly seeing as she wants to find it funny to try to embarrass you within your friend group

Of course not

but I imagine this group has been fraught with drama from day 1!

Well I can bet you imagine wrong

This is the best response!

I imagine everyone else is cringing themselves to death 🤣 can you tell if anyone else has read the messages?

This time of year really brings the unhinged lot of the woodwork!

Op I'd screenshot it and post it to the group with the comment "did someone's 8 year old get bored?"

Perfect response!

A couple of them are trying to say it was a joke made “in the heat of the moment”

That would make me consider if I really wanted to remain part of the group. I’d go back and say “No it wasn’t. It was a grossly offensive and upsetting comment.”

Sad that they're trying to half-arsed defend it, but equally you don't want to react to that and alienate others. Maybe just respond with something like "it's alright, we've all had wild Saturday nights. Mine haven't involved spreadsheets, though.)
