Good god it happened to me

Sorry, this seems very alarmist. But I am horrified by what has happened. I realize fully that this is a first world problem. I started mouranjo in February for various health reasons, one of which I was obese. Well the pounds flew off me at a freakish speed, so much so that my Dr told me to stop 7 weeks ago- which I did. Here is the problem. I HAVE NEVER GOT MY APPETITE BACK. I am now classed as underweight. I have absolutely no interest in food and have to force myself to eat. I now have very low blood pressure. This is a nightmare. Am I just going to shrink away? I’m living off protein and meal replacement shakes because I find it so hard to swallow food. And part of me feels like I deserve it. I’m catholic. Wil it end? Does anyone else know of this happening?!!! Is it my fault?

Only a non Catholic would have to ask ;)

Born, raised and occasionally practicing Catholic 😂. I understand Catholic guilt but as a previous poster so wisely said - the Holy See does not have a position on WLD not does the Bible forbid their use. Obviously. 😂
it is possible to set aside the guilt that is hard wired into us or at the very least save it for a deserving cause. Which this is not.

Agree.

I admit I find the questions referring to it and the serious replies to it quite amusing.

OP, you need to find out why you are having problems swallowing. Is it because you physically can't?

Yes, this is important. I'm sorry this happened to you. It sounds awful.

Frillysweetpea · 12/12/2025 23:36

Jenny Murray has the same issue. These reports are getting a bit frightening.

blueumbrella2016 · 12/12/2025 23:38

Calorific drinks: full fat milk, fruit juice etc

You need carbs and fat not just protein.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/12/2025 23:40

I found your Catholic comment quite amusing op. I don't have any information about your troubles however I would suggest to see your GP again very soon.

Flibbertyfloo · 12/12/2025 23:48

You need to go back to your GP pronto. Loss of appetite can be caused by various medical conditions, some of which are serious. Just because you've been on WLI, it doesn't mean you can't have a medical issue alongside it.

Agree, although so common it seems as people adjust. Appetite doesn’t immediately, automatically return. Dr apt def though.

I’m truly sorry to hear it OP. It’s a lesson for all the posters on here that say the jabs have no serious side effects.

Do the doctors think the effects will wear off eventually? How long were you on them?

7 weeks is still fairly early, MJ stays in your system for around 4 weeks on average so it’s not unheard of for low appetite to still be a thing this soon after stopping.

Thecows · 13/12/2025 00:10

I love the Catholic confusion too! Guilt was my instant reaction.

What else can you try and eat? Avocado, rice pudding? Calorific but not too overwhelming

Whywhywhyyyy · 13/12/2025 00:17

Wow it’s pretty scary OP. I am sorry.

I do think it’s amazing what these jabs have been able to achieve but I did worry has enough time passed to know what happens after when people come off!

I don’t think they should have rolled it out this fast tbh.

There’s 25 years plus research & trial behind them. It’s not been fast or ill thought through.

Well that’s reassuring.

But it’s still been a very fast roll out imo. 2 years ago most people hadn’t heard of this. Now it’s the most consumed drug on the planet

Was your relationship with your parish under threat after your weight loss? Or has Pope Leo declared MOUNJARO as a heretical medication or supplement? Or does it affect Anglicans, Baptists and Muslims as well?

Thank goodness that I have been an avowed agnostic for almost sixty years.

LancashireButterPie · 13/12/2025 00:35

I'm assuming OP means Cachexic, not Catholic?

Nutmuncher · 13/12/2025 00:38

It sounds about normal, two friends finished their MJ journeys recently after both being on since the start of the year and it took a good 1-2 months for their appetite to return to normal. One went back on the MJ maintenance dose because it came back with a vengeance and she gained half a stone within a short period of time.

Everyone responds differently. Congratulations on your weight loss though, hopefully it stays off long term!

moanycoo · 13/12/2025 00:38

Have you thought about cannabis? Very helpful for getting you feeling hungry.

LBFseBrom · 13/12/2025 00:38

I googled and found this:

"Your appetite is likely to start returning within 1 to 2 weeks of your last Mounjaro injection, with a more complete return to your pre-treatment appetite levels within approximately 4 to 6 weeks. The medication remains in your system and tapers off gradually over about 30 days. "

It looks as though your appetite should be returning to normal now but obviously it varies according to the individual. I'd give it another couple of weeks and if you are still having difficulty eating enough, seek medical advice.

Sigh. Why are people taking the catholic comment so seriously?!

She’s simply saying that she feels she has brought it on herself by taking the jabs. Clearly related to general catholic guilt, not that the Catholic Church has outlawed mounjaro for gods sake 🤣

Butchyrestingface · 13/12/2025 00:45

MamaToABeautifulBoy · 12/12/2025 23:26

I’m Catholic, and there’s absolutely no theological basis for feeling guilty about weight-loss drugs. If they were a sin, they’d at least get a passing mention somewhere between Leviticus and Revelations.

She's indicating that because she's Catholic, she's primed to feel guilty at the drop of a hat.

It was a joke.

1AnotherOne · 13/12/2025 00:55

It happened to me. Weight continued to fall off despite stopping months previously, had bloods done and it was folate deficiency. Started a course of folic acid and appetite slowly returned. It’s worth seeing the GP.

bridgetreilly · 13/12/2025 00:57

You need counselling asap, OP. Your current disordered eating is almost certainly to do with your mind and not your body.

NooNooHead · 13/12/2025 00:58

LancashireButterPie · 13/12/2025 00:35

I thought cachexia is more to do with weight loss from / owing to cancer?

I'm more worried about the dysphagia. It's definitely a lot more concerning how these longer term adverse effects aren't that well known.

QuirkyMoose · 13/12/2025 00:58

Are you feeling guilty because you went on weight loss drugs, you got what you always wished for, and now it's working too well and you think that God is punishing you?
Please don't think that way.
I know someone who got covid, thankfully it was quite mild, but they lost their sense of taste and smell for almost 9 months, during that time they had very little interest in eating or drinking and they lost a lot of weight.
Was God punishing them? No I don't think so.
It's very difficult to force yourself to eat when you have no appetite.
I'm certain that you would not be the first person to have this weight loss treatment and then have the problem where you're having difficulty eating again.
Go to the doctors, tell them what's going on, they'll help you.
In the meanwhile, breathe, relax, and thank God that you have access to medical doctors, weight loss assistance, and (mostly) kind strangers on the internet who are happy to listen and help you out if they can.
You're going to be okay.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 13/12/2025 01:02

A lot of people find the opposite and that they are having to be very careful when their appetite returns with a vengeance!

I am being careful and slowly titrating down, not wanting to unleash my full normal appetite on the festive season. After being on 15mg for a couple of months I'm now down to 7.5mg, and really enjoyed a three course meal with a couple of glasses of wine and a cocktail the other day. And I mean REALLY enjoyed, it made me realise how much I had missed that feeling. I was nicely full, not stuffed.

Any unusual lack of appetite should mean a trip to the GP, whether or not you've been in Mounjaro. Do you not feel like eating after you exercise? I get pretty hungry.
