What has happened to Andrex?? It’s so flimsy and yet expensive!! My friend suggested Aldi brand but they didn’t have any in stock today. Please share the brand that you recommend!

I am astonished that anyone would pay Andrex prices for bog roll. It's always been ridiculously expensive. The Morrisons Savers is good. 9 rolls for a few quid.

sanityisamyth · 10/12/2025 15:24

Asda Shades is the best

Hankunamatata · 10/12/2025 15:32

I never thought id convert from cheap toilet roll but Who gives a Crap won me over as my bathroom has so much less dust since using it. And I can buy it in Tesco

Purplebunnie · 10/12/2025 15:53

Who gives a Crap delivered direct from them £48.00 for 48 rolls. I can delay the order or get it earlier.

i started buying andrex a few months ago after i thought tesco's own brand quality had gone down hill...but buy what your bum prefers

Monty34 · 10/12/2025 16:03

Quilted ones will clog up your sewer pipes eventually. They don't disintegrate as fast as others.
I avoid those.
I dislike loo roll that sheds millions of small fibres. Never remember that from years ago.

Ablushingcrow · 10/12/2025 16:06

I use the loo roll with the cardboard middle that can be flushed down the loo.

BreatheAndFocus · 10/12/2025 16:13

OliviaBonas · 10/12/2025 01:13

I much prefer Naked Sprout to WGAC. I found WGAC so crumbly and rubbish.

Naked Sprout is now called Naked Paper. I linked to it in my earlier post (p2, I think). Yes, it’s great.

Ireolu · 10/12/2025 16:17

I used to resent buying loo roll. Over priced and poor quality. But then we got costco membership. If you know anyone get them to get it from there for you. The big cushelle/kirkland packs last us 6 months.

Beerlzebub · 10/12/2025 16:48

PervyMuskrat · 10/12/2025 00:15

Who gives a crap still the best by far

My friend has that and it drives me up the wall. It never seems to flush!

I use Tesco extra thick/cushioned, whatever they call it.

Sainsbury's double rolls. A roll of this lasts forever.

Sainsbury's Super Soft White Toilet Tissue Double Rolls 4 equals 8 Rolls | Sainsbury's

Yes, totally agree. Swapped from Andrex to this, hope they don’t change it.

Single50something · 10/12/2025 17:50

Found same with Andrex. I get the panda bamboo one from amazon or ocado. Its often on deal.

LibertyLily · 10/12/2025 17:53

JDM625 · 09/12/2025 23:30

I've tried Sainsburys and brands and return to these (plus Aldi is my closest shop).

Another vote for these from Aldi. DH refuses to use anything else and he's very fussy when it comes to loo roll 🙄😁

goody2shooz · 10/12/2025 18:52

I’m amazed at anyone liking who gives a crap loo roll - it’s on a par with the ghastly stuff at motorway services. Or are there different grades of wgac? Only stuff I’ve used of theirs is just awful, you use twice as much at least cos it’s so fragile. Grim. Daughter buys it and I’m seriously considering bringing my own loo roll when we visit!

LokiDoki75 · 10/12/2025 18:55

Little Duck from Iceland or Ocado’s own brand. The Ocado one is closest I’ve found to pre- Covid loo roll!

cornflakecrunchie · 10/12/2025 19:23

Thanks @ifyourheart for this thread, it's something I've kept meaning to post about for a while. I hadn't bought Andrex for donkey's years, but got some a few weeks back & couldn't believe how much it had changed.. cheap & nasty without the cheap price.
Myself & others also mentioned how absolutely AWFUL the new All Bran is, too.. I had one helping & threw the rest of the box in the bin.
Ditto Fairy washing up liquid - I remember when it WAS like it shows on the tv ads & a drop would foam up for the dishes. Nowdays I'm practically squirting half the bottle in.
Do they really think we don't notice?

SB2527 · 10/12/2025 19:35

The 3 ply better quality one from Aldi. Just as good, if not better than "brands".

hiredandsqueak · 10/12/2025 19:36

We have Regina Bamboo, stopped getting Andrex when the quality went down. It was at one point the only loo roll I would buy but not any more.

CWigtownshire · 10/12/2025 19:40

Sainsbury's "double" roll - pack of 4. Nice and thick.

Trishyb10 · 10/12/2025 20:02

Newspaper if your skint

Oldwmn · 10/12/2025 20:08

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 10/12/2025 00:14

Cushelle, especially the tubeless ones - great idea

I have just bought a massive pack of naked paper which is v environmental, but not v appealing looking. I am still contemplating it so can't tell you what it's like

It's fine, v environmentally friendly & I never run out! I don't care that it's brown (unbleached), what kind of princess sweats on that? An old lady in our village told me how harmful all the chemicals involved in bog paper were over fifty years ago - she always said that we ought to be able to buy unbleached & now we can!

Onceisenoughta · 10/12/2025 20:14

I've chuntered so many times at the supermarket about toilet rolls, it's become ridiculous that there's so many different brands and combinations of how many rolls in different packs, some rolls twice as thick as others. Half of them are crap or single ply so you have to study them all individually. I often crouch down to look at the prices to see which ones are best value per roll but even then going for cheapest or mid-range is a lottery. I also wear varifocals so that's another obstacle unless I actually get on the floor. I see others having the same dilemma often and "I only want to wipe my arse" rings out like a chorus.

Supermarkets have got 1st prize generally in how to piss everybody off by challenging customers brains to the max. I have to sit in a dark room when I get home

Oldraver · 10/12/2025 20:35

Lidl, but not the cotton fresh as it's scented. We do have an open packet as air freshener

TaterTots68 · 10/12/2025 20:36

Twittwoooodoyou · 10/12/2025 00:59

Another vote for costco! Worth the cost of the membership.

Interesting. Is it the Costco (Kirkland?) brand? Andrex definitely isn't as good as it was. We've gone back to getting Cushelle from Lidl, but we do have Costco membership.
(Glad I spotted that much phone had changed Andrex to Andrew before posting 🙈😂)

GreenGiant167 · 10/12/2025 20:37

I like the Sainsbury’s one. Reasonably priced and fairly thick. The midrange one, not the value…just to clarify.
