What has happened to Andrex?? It’s so flimsy and yet expensive!! My friend suggested Aldi brand but they didn’t have any in stock today. Please share the brand that you recommend!

Whatever is cheapest!

Sartre · 10/12/2025 11:06

We use Aldi’s as well, it’s brilliant for the price especially.

@ifyourheart just double check that any loo roll you buy is 3 ply, can recommend these mega rolls

I find these leave lots of dust in the toilets so I've gone back to the regular Andrex (ie not mega roll)

Sorry I've had to laugh at vulgar. Are you from the 1920s! I've not heard anyone use the term vulgar in real life ever.

I know! 😆 the ridiculous thing is I swear like a trooper, my most used sentence I think is “For fucks sake” and I often drop a C bomb, but I draw the line at having loo rolls labelled with the word crap! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😆😆

Honestly, I’m not that keen either (and also swear liberally IRL)

Nutmuncher · 10/12/2025 11:29

Stick with Andrex the others are abysmal. No one can convince me supermarket own brands come even close.

UnaOfStormhold · 10/12/2025 11:39

There was a Sliced Bread podcast on which was the best from an eco point of view. In short, there's not much to choose between recycled and bamboo; bamboo growth is less carbon intensive than wood but transport costs and lack of recycling options offset that. However, bleached vs non-bleached made a big difference. I use Naked sprout - took a little getting used to the brown paper but it does the job and I feel good about using it.

PluckyChancer · 10/12/2025 11:47

Aldi or Lidl own brand 4 ply.

DisforDarkChocolate · 10/12/2025 11:48

Cushelle is my favourite. Wype cleaning gel has been a game changer though.

Timebudda · 10/12/2025 11:48

I buy the cheapest loo rolls.
Im only going to flush it a way.

Silverbirchleaf · 10/12/2025 11:55

Must admit, I don’t like the C word either, and it puts me off buying it as well.

Heylittlesongbird · 10/12/2025 10:46

I’m sorry to be childish but I do like your typo. Your best bet is not to let Andrew near your vagina ever again!

Oh my god I didn't even notice haaa 🤣 thats funny as

boundarysponge · 10/12/2025 12:12

WGAC doesn’t perform well in soft water areas, it just disintegrates. Their bamboo paper holds together well though.

Tdcp · 10/12/2025 12:15

Asda Shades are good!

Alittlefrustrated · 10/12/2025 12:16

Asda Shades - the big rolls. Nothing fancy but does the job.

YouAreTheCauseOfMyHeadache · 10/12/2025 12:21

Cheeky Panda Bamboo - I wouldnt buy anything else now. Its on amazon

StrawberrySquash · 10/12/2025 12:24

Yeah, I don't like it. Not really because I'm offended by the word in general, but it's part of the twee nonsense that we get from companies like Innocent and Octopus. It's about register - I don't want companies trying to provide a product professionally acting like they are my mate in the pub.

AwfullyGood · 10/12/2025 13:28

This is hilarious!

I don't even know what's in the bathroom without going to check. I just buy whatever seems reasonable when needed (not the very cheap flimsy stuff but nothing too elaborate).

I wasn't aware favourite toilet paper was a thing!

nomas · 10/12/2025 13:54

We get Panda paper at £10 for 45 rolls. Does the job nicely.

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/12/2025 13:55

I buy Who Gives a Crap in bulk. One roll lasts forever.

Christwosheds · 10/12/2025 14:20

Wobblylegs1 · 10/12/2025 01:11

Total tangent, but anyone remember that terrible stuff they used to put in public toilets in the 80s? It was like greaseproof paper!

We had that in our school too. Ghastly !

Christwosheds · 10/12/2025 14:26

I find the standard Andrex does a weird thing now where the layers slip apart as you are wiping, it just doesn’t seem to wipe well at all. The Mega Rolls are different though, they are ok. Stopped buying WGAC as not great for the price.
Many types seem to leave a lot of papery dust on the back of the loo as well, this didn’t used to happen years ago.

Topseyt123 · 10/12/2025 14:29

Another vote for Little Duck at Tesco.

Anywhere else and I will just buy their home brand, though will check around at the time to see what looks like the best value.

I refuse to pay any more than I really have to for something that we are mostly going to be stuffing up our arses! 🙄😎

I remember it well. Awful stuff. It was shit (pun intended). It nearly scraped your arse off.

Interested to read this thread. So thanks for starting it OP.

For some time I've been thinking I must be imagining how awful Andrex has become.

Andrex mega rolls seemed ok but couldn't get them in my local Tesco last time I bought loo rolls so ended up with regular Andrex and yes, they're just as awful as I thought they were.

I'm not keen on quilted as they don't seem to flush properly, might try Cushelle non quilted.
