NC’d for this

A couple. 2 dc (no childcare)
A brand new, new build house. Mortgaged.
Two brand new cars.
They don’t dress designer but the present well.
She has a few designer handbags.
gadgets are always good brands, latest I phones, shark hairdryers, robot hoover.
very organised and tidy home, both work full time in good jobs.
They do family outings every few weekends but not every weekend.
Honesty, what are your first thoughts?!

Lucky.

And "I wonder who is doing the childcare?"

And "who the hell monitors whether people's clothing and handbags are designer or not?"

Catpiece · 09/12/2025 11:52

First thought? Honestly? None of my business

NellieJean · 09/12/2025 11:52

I’m looking at our lawn, it’s green. There’s a tree, all the leaves have fallen off. Thoughts anyone?

Whatsthatsheila · 09/12/2025 11:52

They may have had an inheritance that’s helped them out. Or a small windfall such as a lottery win big enough for comfortable life and luxuries but not enough to retire

… maybe it’s none of your business?

Rhaidimiddim · 09/12/2025 11:52

They've got their act together. Good on them!

Lookingforthejoy · 09/12/2025 11:53

Sounds like a couple just getting on with their lives. New built house isn’t my style but each to their own.

What do you think OP?

AgnesMcDoo · 09/12/2025 11:53

what are your thoughts OP?

Sunshineismyfavourite · 09/12/2025 11:53

First thoughts are why is this even a thread? It's all a bit strange OP.

I mean, they sound like a normal middle class family. But no one would know what goes on behind closed doors so it could be chaos for all we know.

Crunchienuts · 09/12/2025 11:53

Sound a bit nouveau riche and status driven to me (Im much scruffier and prefer character properties).

123456789xyz · 09/12/2025 11:53

My first thought is: so what? Good for them?

Can't really tell much about them TBH.

RedTagAlan · 09/12/2025 11:54

My first thought on reading that was why 2 expensive hairdryers ?

I mean who would spend 200 quid each on multiple dyers when traditional dryer brands can be had for a fraction of that ?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/12/2025 11:54

i honestly wouldn’t have noticed half of the things you’ve listed. But if they were pointed out to me, I’d think they were doing more than ok in life!

Twistedfirestarters · 09/12/2025 11:54

Absolutely nothing. What are we supposed to think? I'm not really into designer or branded stuff so I wouldn't even clock that.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 09/12/2025 11:54

I'd say you are about the same as most people in the UK... nothing to think about or prey on my mind.
More fortunate than many.
Some are on the poverty line and l think more about them .. and help where l can with donations.. etc.

gamerchick · 09/12/2025 11:55

Do people notice most of that stuff with other people? I don't pay attention to clothes or handbags. I wouldn't know a new iPhone.

So probably wouldn't register much at all. I might feel sorry for them for having to put up with a new build like. They're not built very well.

Holluschickie · 09/12/2025 11:55

No thoughts. I am not v fussed about what other ppl do.

Titasaducksarse · 09/12/2025 11:55

Their outgoings are a lot!

NoTouch · 09/12/2025 11:56

Not a lot based solely on that information, assuming you are talking about financially they could be anything from wealthy to drowning in debt or somewhere in between depending on income, location etc.

angelos02 · 09/12/2025 11:56

Is this going to be one of those - neither of the parents work threads?

BillieWiper · 09/12/2025 11:56

I have none.
You're just describing a few attributes or features about a random family.

I don't judge people on what they buy, wear, what house they have or what car they drive. All that is just faceless demographic data. This person owns this car. So what?

Unless I was a marketing expert and was trying to sell to them their possessions are none of my concern.

JaneJeffer · 09/12/2025 11:56

How do they both work full time without childcare?

Theresabatinmykitchen · 09/12/2025 11:57

I would think they are definitely better off than Mr and Mrs average and appear to be financially comfortable, sounds like they have a nice life.

User564523412 · 09/12/2025 11:59

Sounds identical to our life. DH is actually a high earner so not sure if that's "middle class"? We don't live excessively due to both of us being ND so what you described is exactly what it appears to people from the outside.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 09/12/2025 12:00

Is this going to be about social class, or another benefit bashing thread?
