A couple. 2 dc (no childcare)
A brand new, new build house. Mortgaged.
Two brand new cars.
They don’t dress designer but the present well.
She has a few designer handbags.
gadgets are always good brands, latest I phones, shark hairdryers, robot hoover.
very organised and tidy home, both work full time in good jobs.
They do family outings every few weekends but not every weekend.
Honesty, what are your first thoughts?!

Are you at it? 😂 how is 2k savings a month not enough? What are they saving for? A house on Mars?

Edited

Possibly?

Genuinely cannot tell if this is satire or not.

Then I'm afraid I can't help you..

Discofish · 11/12/2025 11:22

This is satire - surely? Living in a 5 bed house with nice things and saving 2k a month isn’t ample, an evening job wont make enough extra, no- you need to work 7 days a week. Maybe sell some of your oragans on the black market too. Anything to bump up those measly savings.

There's better than 5 bedrooms and I wouldn't say those things are nice. There are nicer things to be had.

Oof, catty!

I prefer dogs tbh.

That was my thought too. The very definition of humdrum.

New builds don't bother me, they're all the same but each to their own but I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to earn more to build their own house?

What, from scratch?

My first thought on reading that was why 2 expensive hairdryers ?

I mean who would spend 200 quid each on multiple dyers when traditional dryer brands can be had for a fraction of that ?

Oh, if I could afford it I'd get expensive hairdryers. Hair is everything, as Fleabag said.

Answered before I read that … showing off then! Wants everyone to say how great she is at life.

Calm down, getting yourself a bit over excited.

Oooh thanks, yes, your comment had me beyond excited!

The power of @BuildbyNumbere 's words!

Just a shame you can't be bothered to read the OP's posts before YOU get sooooooooooo excited and make yourself look like an eejit by saying she is jealous of herself

Summerluvin1 · 11/12/2025 22:55

Indifferent.

Kindly, I'd hardly say 2k savings a month is ample. Are you able to retrain to earn more? Take in ironing? Odd jobs? Dog walking? Anything to get those savings pumped up into a more acceptable and actual ample amount.

Saving 2K a month is not ample? Seriously?! Blimey. How much do you save a month?
she just spent 25k cash on a brand new car. She does not need an evening job to save even more than 2K a month.

Yes? Buy land, build house? It's really not that difficult 🙄

Obviously you hire people to do the actual building.

Much much more than that and I don't restrict myself with anything, I spend what I want, when I want. Some people just don't want to put effort in to have more money which I suppose is great if that's what they want but wouldn't be me 🤦🏻‍♀️

True, I've never been materialistic so money and things have never been all that important to me, as long as I have enough to live and some savings for rainy days/supporting dd. I love our home and our life, we don't need more.

Kittyloulou · 13/12/2025 09:51

By comparison our house is worth £850K and combined salary about £160K. We never buy brand new cars but we do buy them outright. 2 DC still living at home. No debts. No designer handbags or hairdryers. But have fabulous holidays and investments so that we can one day retire comfortably. So living for the here and now and also for the future. I’d advise putting money aside for retirement. It comes around so fast!

babylone · 13/12/2025 09:52

Good for them - i dont understand the point of your post OP?

fairydust11 · 13/12/2025 10:17

Having read your thread, my thoughts are it seems from the neighbour issue, you’re probably not living in the right area or house for your salary level as if you were and neighbours were on similar salaries exceeding £130k they wouldn’t bat an eyelid over a new car?

People probably think you earn less if you’re living in a standard new build where neighbours earn around £50k, they will question things & think you’ve won the lottery as most people earning more money would live in a more affluent area.

Regarding your sister, now you have told her your salary she probably won’t make those comments again.

Katie0909 · 16/12/2025 19:20

I think these people are pretty rude to pass comments in such a negative way. As long as you aren't moaning about being skint then it's none of their business how much you earn or spend and they should keep quiet.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 17/12/2025 18:01

Agreeing with @Katie0909 but I do know quite a few people in that position who would moan bitterly about being skint too!
