To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

Foreign students pay handsomely, benefit us by subsidising other uni places, and lots do go home again. They are probably the last cohort of 'immigrants' you would get rid of. Not really what I was saying.

Yes, temporary people like students aren't the same kind of problem. They can be an issue where there is a local housing or health care shortage. That seems like a fixable issue.

Although universities to some extent are using them as a sticking plaster solution to the fact that fewer people are enrolling from the UK.

Fine, there would be less building but what about the disadvantages?

No one talks about those.

The people not coming here would be students, the young and the more skilled, no one wants to move to a country where they are not welcome.

Its not possible to say "No immigration" but then also say "We want wealthy skilled immigrants"

They will go to other countries, see whats happening with foreign student numbers.

Our young people are paying for this right now with higher tuition fees.

Lots of countries only accept skilled immigrants. Some don't even let them stay long term. Some of my family live in a place like this, you actually can'timmigrate there permanently at all. You might be able to work long term, but you won't ever vote or have access to social benefits. And you might have to leave when you retire.

Skilled people still want to go there and they don't consider it to be an anti-immigrant place.

UK universities lose money on every STEM student paying Home fees. I agree International students are propping up the sector, however.

Well, other countries offer great weather, have brilliant public services or v low taxes.
My DD was working in healthcare in Australia, as you say its limiting, though she does have an Aussie passport!

What does the UK bring to the table?

Crowded, awful weather, shit health services, hyper expensive housing, terrible transport, even coming here to work in a Uni or as a skilled worker, requires costly health insurance and visa's.

Its no wonder migration is falling and people leaving.

Netcurtainnelly · 08/12/2025 19:40

Another couple of Afghans in the news today after raping a girl.

Just fuck off, we do want you.

Education really isn't there to make money directly, so there is nothing wrong with it being a cost.

But it's become a bloated sector throughout many western countries so will probably have some kind of collapse. There is way too much infrastructure that requires a lot of students to pay for it, at the same time quality of university training has tanked.

Theslummymummy · 08/12/2025 19:43

To say most people who want illegal immigration to stop don't know (care) the difference between illegal immigration and seeking asylum

Edited

Ultimately most places aren't going to be able to depend on importing people to solve their issues. The most qualified will always be able to pick and choose from many places.

You mean We don't want you.... absolutely, 100%, Starmer et al would soon change their tune if their DD was raped.

It may be impossible to stop boats but that doesn't mean they should be free to wander the streets either.

Child migrants my arse.

It does matter. Many voluntary and ‘voluntary’ redundancy programmes are underway. Compulsory redundancy is on the table even at some world renowned institutions. Degree programmes have been cancelled, which is a major headache for students.

I agree the sector is bloated. Too many unis tried to be all things to all people. Some consolidation and specialisation is probably a good thing. But it is going to be painful, particularly for staff and students who haven’t done anything wrong

Nailed it. The political, lawyer and media class will do everything they can to enable asylum seekers, including rapists, murderers, drug smugglers and other criminals, to stay in the UK.

Safe in the knowledge that it won't be their DDs sexually assaulted or their DSs stabbed or their neibourhoods made less safe. People are getting sick of it.

Yep i'm fairly left wing but i ve a DD and if something happened to her, well, i'd not be responsible.

The first duty of Govt is defence of the realm and whilst my own personal opinion is Brexit has made x ch migration a "thing", the Govt also has to protect the population and that means internment for arrivals coming here, that would also limit arrivals.

Should have been done under the last Govt but should have definitely started by now.

EasternStandard · 08/12/2025 20:13

Migration and associated crime is an issue across the EU Brexit or no Brexit.

If people want it stopped then look at what works.

Just saw that 5 mins ago. Town over from me. I have heard of quite a few incidents in this area (Warwickshire). Hadn’t heard of this one. Really sad 😔 I hope she can move forward and one day this can be a distant memory.

Part of the reason I asked PP where they lived? I do think there’s huge swathes of the country who are completely unaffected by this and have no idea what’s going on.

Thats me, Cornwall, i follow the media and my heart breaks when i read these stories.
I ve also lived in London/SA/Sweden and have zero issue with genuine migrants, even economic ones but x ch migration? nope, has to be clamped down on.

We are seeing increasing numbers of people moving from large cities etc and buying up housing down here and tbf who can blame them.

As to "what works" what might that be? any handy large Islands popped up in the North Atlantic during these recent storms?

EasternStandard · 08/12/2025 20:39

I assume the same people will keep posting nothing can be done, probably due to Labour loyalty.

Going by yanbu voting and generally it’ll be a shrinking group.

Come on be brave, say who you mean and then tell us what exactly what would be your policies?

No, you wont say, let alone name a place we could send send 1000s possibly 10s of 1000s... just the same old "Do what works" without saying what would.....

I ve just slagged Labour/Starmer and suggested internment..... hardly Labour Loyalty!

Plus many more crossed the channel, to the UK under under the Tories.....

OonaStubbs · 08/12/2025 20:56

We should stop all immigration until we can get things sorted out for the people that are already here. Get our own young people into work, sort out all the problems with crime and housing, get the economy booming again. Once that it is all resolved we can start letting select immigrants (ie the mostly highly skilled and the most wealthy) in again. But only in small numbers (ie a few hundred per year).

Alexandra2001 you keep asking other posters what are their suggestions to stop or limit immigration but then you say that channel migrants must be clamped down upon. What are your suggestions for that?

Thank you. Good to find common ground. These stories are awful

And Cornwall is beautiful! Was there this summer and it’s just glorious.

I thought the Cornish wanted their own independence and hated even the English immigrants 😂 which again is probably fair enough. It is not a huge place!

Glad to hear your little corner is holding up though 👌

I’d love it if people just STFU about immigration if I’m honest. It’s really not the most pressing problem we face as a country.

You wouldn't say that if you'd been raped by one of them?

6 rapists reported today alone. Gang of 4 in Bristol, and a pair who dragged a 15 year old girl off the streets in another place.

Does that not seem high to any of you?

What is? I bet it can be traced back to our overpopulation in some way (that’s not even bringing race etc into it, just sheer numbers).
