To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

Sweden has a population of one seventh of that of the UK and they take more asylum seekers than we do.

Out of interest how has that impacted the country? I assume most of them came during Angela Markel’s time at the healm. Have they assimilated well? Any problems?

Alexandra2001 · 06/12/2025 17:37

..so how would they do that, if 2 parts of the military decided to fight each other, going into areas where they thought the sympathies lay with the opposing side and decided to kill them all?

Or say the Govt of the day decided to arrest/murder the civilian population & ban education for women ?

How exactly would the "men of the country" fight back? with pitch forks and clubs? or perhaps a strong worded letter to their MP ?

Local resistance groups? My mind drew to the partisans on the eastern front in ww2.

Yeah no wonder there were no international students when you went to uni … 😂😂 didn’t it occur to you you might be a bit out of touch with how they worked?!

She is pointing out that there is another way to run universities.
They can be funded properly to be centres of academic excellence, and to do ground breaking research that benefits us all.
They don't have to be run as businesses, selling useless degrees to people lacking in intellectual ability, subsidised by international students, and overpaying a few at the top of the management pile while most academics struggle with job insecurity and poor pay.

I remember some of the Nordic countries actually published data after. And lo and behold after you adjust for per-capita those who were foreign born committed more crimes.

I heard it wasn’t going well at all but I might be wrong.

If we were living in WW2 you’d be the person refusing to give refuge to Jews and other minorities fleeing persecution from the Nazis.

After escaping many adult Jewish males did go and enlist in the armed forces of the country that gave them refuge.

SnoopyandSweep · 06/12/2025 18:15

Bambamhoohoo · 06/12/2025 13:08

We do all this already

people from the EU, Australia, Canada etc don’t WANT to come here. Haven’t you noticed that? They go to countries that offer more opportunity.
Who wants to come here and be a nurse when you could earn x6 more and have an amazing life doing it elsewhere?

the university sector is on its knees, the trigger finally pulled by making it hard for international students to come here and other countries- like Canada EU and even America- sweeping them up.

They’ve secured the world’s greatest minds and the next generations skilled workers.

young people set the scene. Young brilliant skilled people don’t want to come here. It’s racist, complex, and quality of life is relatively poor. Why would they?

This.

I think we need international cooperation to ensure those who have genuine reasons to claim asylum can claim asylum in the nearest safe country to their home, and ideally be resettled somewhere with a similar culture.

We should ensure we take our fair share of those in genuine need, and make sure they have safe means to travel here.

People should be able to claim asylum on presenting to immigration control, having arrived through standard travel methods.

They should not be able to claim asylum if they rock up on a beach with no ID.
Possibly having had multiple asylum claims rejected by other European countries, and with no way to immediately determine whether they're Islamist terrorists. Allowing unlimited numbers of undocumented young Muslim males into our country in this way, just because they want to come here, is mad. This may be what the international law on asylum says should happen, but if it is, the law is wrong. And I think the majority of the population agree with me on this.

I agree with all of this!

Pretty sure they would - at least own your views. The types posting the stuff on facebook have an issue with all immigration that isn’t white/English-speaking. Don’t try to pretend otherwise. And if they are claiming asylum they are by definition not illegal. The actual illegal immigrants disappear on arrival and you probably use their services when getting your nails done or car washed.

So the 'legal asylum seekers' are in fact illegal immigrants who have been caught.

rachelhere · 06/12/2025 18:19

I do enjoy all this nonsense about 'skills'. We need people with skills, illegal migrants might have 'in demand skills', British people aren't 'trained' like all these high value migrants. What on earth do people mean by this? Broken English, no qualifications, absolutely penniless? Do they have good admin skills, IT skills, managerial, technical? That they've obviously learned in Somalia or Afghanistan or rural Pakistan? With their second to none education systems? What a strange and silly dreamworld some women live in.

What are you talking about. Asylum seeking and skills based immigration are completely different pathways

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/12/2025 18:24

I actually have a solution!

All the people who support immigration can give up their British citizenship and instead hand it to someone who currently wants it, but doesn’t have it. Then those people can go and live in the immigrant’s country of origin, so a one in, one out policy if you will.

Samrutha · 06/12/2025 18:01

Local resistance groups? My mind drew to the partisans on the eastern front in ww2.

That would need an outside country providing them with weapons and training, ..... in WW2 plenty of men had fought in WW1.

No one is suggesting arming resistance groups in Afghanistan or Sudan.... not that any exist, they are destroyed the moment they even begin to arise, interception of comms is way better than in 1943.

No..... the only option is for the strongest to leave ( a very small % do) and hopefully be able to then get their families out too.

I'm drawing the distinction between this scenario and economic migrants from Albania etc.

I want legal and illegal immigration to stop. But yes I want illegal immigration to stop as we should be allowed to protect our borders, verify who is coming in and be free to reject anyone we don't want. Communities and British society do not benefit from swathes of male refugees. Also they are fleeing France (a perfectly safe country)

For some reason I've been having a few dreams of being in Paris. I've been before and would love to go again

So you want to stop others migrating to Britain but you would like to migrate to France? Wow.

As stated by others, coming here to claim asylum is not illegal (yes even if you come in a small boat, and even if you go through other safe countries on the way).

If the UK implemented ways to apply for asylum from outside the UK, or allowed safe legal passage to those claiming asylum, the small boats (and their connected traguc deaths) would stop. It is totally possible because they did it for Ukrainian refugees. But of course, they tended to be white so the racists don't mind them claiming asylum here.

You mention Afghanistan. Why is it then that many go back on holiday? I had an Afghani Uber driver a few months back. He went back to there on holiday, said how nice it was and "don't believe everything they say on the news".

Er Sweden is exactly what we don’t want. It’s crazy to look at the culture clash. They are so advanced by western standards ie. Decriminalising, open prisons and rehabilitating criminals that this has been completely abused by newer arrivals. They recruit under 18s to throw bombs into random cafes and hairdressers. The police have a bomb squad and it’s now a regular occurrence. Doubling year on year the past couple of years!

If we want to keep our western ideals and values we can’t import this insanity.

She’s really not. That poster didn’t know
anything about universities 😂

but yes of course they can be run to a different model- going back 20 years and changing that doesn’t really add to the illegal immigration argument though does it?

Illegal immigration is when those who have an application to remain rejected but don’t leave. They are not illegal immigrants when they arrive in the country.

Why are they throwing bombs into shops? Never heard that before. One of the stories I was thinking of was the school girl that was raped and murdered on her way home. I think that was a Scandinavian country.
