To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

Their rights are not put “above” the rights of British people.

What gave you that (amusingly dunce-tier) idea ?

For a start, the ones who commit horrific crimes here but aren’t deported because they would face persecution in their own country. Their rights are being put above the rights and safety of British people. You insult people with different political views to you, but you’ll be eating your words in the next few years.

Also what about the rights of the British people not to have so many people from overseas here in the first place legally or illegally in such numbers and having homes built on green belt and where they grew up changing beyond recognition

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2025 17:21

Are you going to post just articles about asylum seekers committing crimes?

Nobody is denying it happens.

Are you proposing we don't take in any asylum seekers?

Yes

Most sensible, rational people want it to stop. But there are plenty on the left who believe in open borders. You can’t reason with them, of course. It’s like trying to reason with a religious fundamentalist. Unfortunately, the left dominate our culture. They dominate academia, publishing, the arts, the entertainment industry and most of the media, and they have used their influence to convince people that immigration is always a good thing, full stop. In reality, of course, it can be good, neutral, or bad, depending on who you let in and how many.

So many people no longer seem capable of thinking for themselves on this issue. It’s like the woke left have brainwashed/bullied the entire country. I have heard people described as ‘far-right’ for wanting rapists deported!! It’s insane.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2025 17:24

Yes

Yes to both questions?

Oh good, the lazy open borders argument againConfused

As well as the woke left.

Moreso the second one.

They are bigger countries and we have so much legal migration as well.

Net migration has dropped by over 75% from its peak

Even Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, said the other night on BBC Question Time that he does not believe a policy of open borders is currently feasible. I don’t care what he wants in an ideal world as long as he lives in the real one.

If ZP is saying this - and I heard him, and it will be on iPlayer - I seriously doubt that ‘plenty on the left’, at least with any influence, are advocating for open borders at present.

If you disagree, please share the names of some open border advocates so we can assess for ourselves how influential they are. Thanks.

Hopeless isn't the word I was thinking of, but yes it won't happen, we are better than that.

How would he deal with the asylum process?

Alexandra2001 · 06/12/2025 17:37

Samrutha · 06/12/2025 16:52

If the UK were at risk of war, I'd expect the men of the country at very least to fight for a better future

..so how would they do that, if 2 parts of the military decided to fight each other, going into areas where they thought the sympathies lay with the opposing side and decided to kill them all?

Or say the Govt of the day decided to arrest/murder the civilian population & ban education for women ?

How exactly would the "men of the country" fight back? with pitch forks and clubs? or perhaps a strong worded letter to their MP ?

How would he deal with the asylum process?

TBF he did not say. He didn’t obviously duck the question but no one focused him on it

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 17:41

Oh, @EasternStandard , he may have been one who said the decision process should be speeded up. I think there is a lot of agreement on that.

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 17:42

TBF a big

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 17:39

TBF he did not say. He didn’t obviously duck the question but no one focused him on it

I have listened to an interview from him and he said I don’t put quotas when asked how many. The problem is there’s no real answers beyond we don’t want this system but we don’t want it to be open, but no clue on how that works in practise.

The question from pp was apt, for those who want safe routes only how do you manage numbers applying

AnnaFrith · 06/12/2025 17:44

I think we need international cooperation to ensure those who have genuine reasons to claim asylum can claim asylum in the nearest safe country to their home, and ideally be resettled somewhere with a similar culture.

We should ensure we take our fair share of those in genuine need, and make sure they have safe means to travel here.

People should be able to claim asylum on presenting to immigration control, having arrived through standard travel methods.

They should not be able to claim asylum if they rock up on a beach with no ID.
Possibly having had multiple asylum claims rejected by other European countries, and with no way to immediately determine whether they're Islamist terrorists. Allowing unlimited numbers of undocumented young Muslim males into our country in this way, just because they want to come here, is mad. This may be what the international law on asylum says should happen, but if it is, the law is wrong. And I think the majority of the population agree with me on this.

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 17:45

Premature post

A possible solution is external applications. But that relies on a hugely trustworthy British government that processes claims smoothly, confidentially and very quickly. I forget who mentioned that.

The only people who gave us something akin to "open borders" were Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson, immigration went to all time highs of around 1m per year.
Dwarfs the 240k per year that came in under Blair (EU FOM, non EU was clamped down on)

Badenoch was in both Governments that approved of this.........

So, based on the evidence, its the right wing that wants Open Borders.

Under Starmer/Labour, immigration has fallen to recent historic lows, not seen for well over a decade (exc Pandemic)

Foreign Rapists etc should be deported AFTER serving their sentence, or do you want them deported but not serve a jail sentence?

It's a hopeless dream I know.

If we were living in WW2 you’d be the person refusing to give refuge to Jews and other minorities fleeing persecution from the Nazis.

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 17:53

@EasternStandard

Another possible solution, which has its own problems, was presented on Mumsnet a while back.

This would be to decide how many asylum seekers the UK can take each year, and to take them from UN refugee camps. This exerts some control, though it is imperfect - I am sure terrorists could inflitrate the camps. Would they find that worthwhile? Chances of a cell ending up together in a certain country don’t seem very high.

This leaves a lot of desperate people absolutely without hope, however.
