DP’s family have uninvited my DLabrador from Christmas

Hols25 · 05/12/2025 18:15

Feeling a bit pissed off. First Christmas with DP and he invited me to his parents house. They live a few hours away so I haven’t been there before, but have met them once for a meal where we live.

DP knows I have sole custody of my DL following breaking up with my ex last year, and he hates going into kennels. When he asked me about Christmas, I checked about whether DL could join and he said yes.

Fast forward to today and he’s told me his parents aren’t able to accommodate DL. They aren’t really dog people and are worried about their cream carpets.

It turns out he hadn’t actually checked with them before and only spoke to them last night.

This means I can’t go and won’t be spending Christmas with DP or the days either side as he’s travelling the morning before.

He says its just one of those things.

AIBU to feel upset with him?

Still no concrete evidence I’d say 😊

Well I hope you do given you have a dog

I don’t 🥺

Last month you had a Romanian rescue dog 🤔

Indeedcorrect · 06/12/2025 15:51

How odd to deny you own a dog
when… you do!

He was Serbian and he had to be put to sleep
so ‘indeed correct’ hope you’re satisfied, have a great weekend

Silverbirchleaf · 06/12/2025 15:57

Slightly misleading title, as dp’s family haven’t uninvited your lab, he was never invited in the first place! The person you should be cross with is your partner. He’s the one that’s caused the problem.

And you loved him
and love dogs

I am sorry you lost your dog and so recently 💐

DogsandFlowers · 06/12/2025 16:01

I didn’t love him actually, he attacked me very badly but that’s a story for another day, or never 😂 I just keep the same username x

You’re really still carrying this on? Would you like me to send you some photos of my arm after he’d finished with it? Off that you’ve got nothing better to do on a Saturday than stalk my posts? Also my username is my username and after this I’m never changing it, so there. Again, have a fabulous weekend x

It’s very weird to be all over mumsnet talking about your dog, sticking up for dogs and loving dog pics posted… and on this one making out you don’t like dogs.

very weird

Sorry but is this thread a complete wind up? 😂

I think it must be. No one can possibly think like this. 😂😂😂😂

Not as weird as your behaviour - going back over all her old posts and using them to try and trip her up.

Don't you have anything better to do on a Saturday afternoon?

Very odd

Denying you love dogs (nothing to ashamed of!) when you have posted dozens and dozens of times about your dog and it sticking up for dogs 🤭

Hols25 · 06/12/2025 10:37

No? I thought I was on about a lizard

Can't your brother have him?

Maddy70 · 06/12/2025 16:35

Your dog your responsibility.

Partner obviously assumed it wouldn't be a problem , he should have checked. Perfectly understandable why they don't want your dog. Why don't you switch and invite the in laws to you instead?
Seek out pet sitters that can have your dog in their home too. There is a site called trusted dog sitters

And a bit of a bully.

ginasevern · 06/12/2025 17:23

@Hols25

Well your new partner is a lying little shit, or hasn't got the balls to ask his parents. Which means he's given very little thought or effort about you. Personally it would be no contest for me. I'd stay at home alone with my lab or (if possible) ask my brother if I could go there. Your partner has left you in a bad place at Christmas so he obviously doesn't care that much.

cramptramp · 06/12/2025 17:46

Put it in kennels even if it doesn’t like them. Or spend Christmas alone. The choice is yours.

Whatthebarnacles · 06/12/2025 17:49

Was just about getting over "sole custody" when you said but your animal doesnt smell. Wowzers. YABU for so many reasons 😅
