To have expected him to make sure I got home ok?

First date last night with a guy who spent most of the evening telling me about how rich he was and all the companies he had owned and sold.

Left the restaurant, freezing outside. I am having trouble getting an uber. He is just standing there watching me struggle to try and book a cab. He suggests I get a black cab. Tell him I can’t really afford it. Eventually I give up and say I will walk to the tube which is about a 5-10 minute walk (I’m in heels). He walks with me part way before leaving me alone at gone midnight to go to his easiest tube stop. I have to walk to the tube in the dark by myself. He could have got the same tube line from the same station as me.
AIBU for expecting him to at least walk me to the tube if not help get me taxi??? Or is that too much these days?! 🙈

Not all men are nice.
And not all men are safe to travel home with on a first date.
Better to plan your own way back from a first date regardless of your standards.

rwalker · 06/12/2025 14:25

He paid for your meal you had funds and means to get home (black cab)
you chose to cheap out on the tube tbh im surprised he walked you so far

intentional or not it comes across a grabby the guy has probably run for the hills

Shinyandnew1 · 06/12/2025 14:26

He also spent a lot of time bragging about his wealth and turned up in trainers and hadn’t dressed appropriately.

You were the one who couldn't walk in their own shoes!! You talk about him not being dressed appropriately 😂

Notonthestairs · 06/12/2025 14:26

Muffinmoo · 06/12/2025 13:49

No I didn’t.

the one he went to would have meant extra changes for me, rather than walking a bit further to a stop that would mean less changes for me.

You said "He could have got the same tube line from the same station as me" - so the two lines interconnected. 1 extra change.

A sensible choice given you felt you were at risk alone.

Franklyannoyed · 06/12/2025 14:22

This is nonsense, and you just copied what another poster wrote. Which is also nonsense. You see the exact same thing if you put in same drop off and pick up. The exact same.

I think it depends on your Uber rating. If it’s not so good then you may struggle to get fares accepted if drivers have other choices.

Ah ok, that sounds very feasible, I never thought of that, but I guess i don’t know anyone with a bad rating, I know groups of friends and I, as well as colleagues and I book multipe Ubers at the same time from the same place going to the same place, and we all see the exact same thing on our screen, but yes I’d assume if you’ve a bad rating drivers may avoid picking uou up. Which I guess is even more reason for the op to make sure she can get herself home if she knows she’s a bad rating and uber drivers don’t wish to pick her up if they can avoid it;

Maybe the OP's Uber rating is crap because she doesn't tip.

What do you have to do to get a poor rating?

I didn't know this was a thing, but have just looked and I have a 5. I'd say I'm a very ordinary Uber passenger. I say hello when I get in and thank you when I get out. Often the reason I'm in an Uber will be that I've had a few drinks....

CraftyGin · 06/12/2025 14:41

What were the two stations near the restaurant? (not your home station).

So many nasty trollish people on this thread. My uber rating is not particularly poor. It’s been 4.70 for years and has never changed. I am always on time and polite, and I do tip but you don’t get prompted to tip until you book your next ride, so it can’t be that drivers necessarily ‘wait’ to see if you’ve tipped before rating you.

That would be very useful to know.

I expect the OP won't say because it'll be 'outing'!

Or she expect the driver to walk her to the car and the walk her to her front door ?

Muffinmoo · 06/12/2025 14:45

MNMNMN · 06/12/2025 14:23

He sounds more fashionable than you tbh. Trainers and a top are far more contemporary than a shirt and suit. And for women, heels are very dated.

It’s so amazing the lengths you will go to insult a stranger on the internet. You must have a very miserable life.

Mines a 5 too

OP says hers is 4.7. Perhaps Ubers would rather pick up a 5?

I've always assumed its based on being exactly where I said I would be and the level of chat in the car- not too little and not too much, nothing flirtatious or confrontational, no sex, race or religion 😬 thats what I base my ratings on ☺️

Give her his number😂

Yep only on MN is telling the truth considered being insulted and living a miserable life.

I admit I used to wear ridiculous heels in the 80’s and early 90’s - hence my arthritic feet now.

Its trainers all the way now - I must have 50 pairs of adidas gazelles in a rainbow of colours to match every outfit. And I’d far prefer a man wearing a polo shirt and adidas trainers than a shirt and shiny shoes.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 06/12/2025 14:56

What is the obsession with the OPs heels? Why shouldn’t she get dressed up nicely for a date. I wear heels, not stilettos or anything (they are far too uncomfortable) more like chunky platforms but I can’t stand trainers, they are so ugly. I also think it’s nice if a man makes a bit of an effort to look nice too.

Edited

weird how you can still buy them then really isn’t it!

I think it is rather miserable to attempt every possible angle to insult and be horrible to someone you don’t know online. And yet I’m being told I’m the one who must be an absolute terror to date because I expect basic manners.

Because she used that as a reason why she needed help to get home. Women deliberately making themselves helpless is very annoying

Wow, you're getting a hard time on here OP. I'm with you, if he was that rich he could have covered the cab fare. Tight and uncaring. In the bin he goes.

Why should he?!
I’m guessing he’d already footed the bill for the date.
