Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

This. I am so sorry this has happened.

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/11/2025 14:39

He’s literally sent you a photo of himself holding a gun and saying he knows where you live. Of course you should speak to the police!

corlan · 28/11/2025 14:39

Yes - he's left little room for you to doubt you're being threatened.

parietal · 28/11/2025 14:41

definitely go to the police. he is very dumb to say 'this is not a threat' while making obvious threats, but dumb people can still be dangerous.

PortSalutPlease · 28/11/2025 14:41

Malicious communication is a crime. Definitely call the police!

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:41

I don’t know who to call, it doesn’t feel 999 worthy but I’m scared

Definitely contact the police, Op.

marathonmumm · 28/11/2025 14:41

Omg yes!! Call the police immediately. And stop interacting with him on the messaging.

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 14:41

Straight to police.

Ex copper - this is a direct threat of violence.

Don't report to Vinted quite yet, as they may delete that person's account and you'll want to get the details for police.

Screenshot everything, including the messages and the sellers account details - name, location, history, reviews, anything you can capture.

Excited101 · 28/11/2025 14:41

Omg op I’m so sorry! Yes involve the police- how would he have your address? Vinted doesn’t release it

JudgeBread · 28/11/2025 14:42

101 for police non emergency, not 111, but yes I'd report it and then let vinted know you have and give them the CRN. Might put a rocket up their arse on sorting your money back and banning the nutcase

marathonmumm · 28/11/2025 14:42

Just call them

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 28/11/2025 14:43

Absolutely report it.

But please do not worry. Try reverse image searching the photo. I bet it comes up. My friend had this.

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:44

Agh I already reported it to Vinted.
He does have my address as it was on the packaging he sent it to me in.

GuerrillaMyse · 28/11/2025 14:44

F*cking hell yes call the police 101 and tell them he's threatening you and your children with a weapon and violence

justteanbiscuits · 28/11/2025 14:44

I am erring between doing an online 101 report - and actually dialling 999 as this is a serious thread.

Don't worry about that, the likelihood is this is utter bullshit, but you're right to be concerned and please get off mumsnet and phone 101.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/11/2025 14:45

999 as it's a direct threat to your life.

If the package was being delivered to her house the shipping label would have her address.

Do you live near a station @Reasonswhy ? Maybe you could pop in and ask the person on the front desk?

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:45

I’m on hold with 101 now

OP posts:
Bayroot1 · 28/11/2025 14:45

It's 101

I hope you've contacted them

BudgetWorries · 28/11/2025 14:45

If someone had threatened me with a gun, said he would send his ex con mates around, mentioned my children and how police could not protect me I would not hesitate to dial 999. Do you know where the seller lives? Police will be able to bet his address from Vinted.

DeathStare · 28/11/2025 14:46

I'm the most reluctant 999 caller you can imagine but even i would call 999 for this. He has a gun, your address and has threatened to come at night and threatened your kids. I wouldn't wait the two days it will take for the none emergency line or an online report to get back to you.
