Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

And disgustingly racist

Isn't it? What a vile creature.

Patchedupsocks · 28/11/2025 15:40

The police aren't to know it's a fake picture and to all intents and purposes nor do you, 'ignorance' ib this case is a winner.

333FionaG · 28/11/2025 15:40

What an awful specimen of manhood. I hope the police throw the book at him, making threats like that. I bet he's a scrawny little no mark whose mum thinks the sun shines out of his arse.

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:38

These are only some of the messages, am really scared now

This is clearly malicious and criminal.
You should contact the police immediately. Even if he stole the image from Google, its inclusion is clearly to intimidate. I wouldn’t be ringing 111: 999, or drop in to the local station with the image. They’ll direct you to the right service.

DarkForces · 28/11/2025 15:45

I reported to the police when this happened to me. There wasn't anything they could do but they were really reassuring. I hope it helps them build up a picture and force Vinted to take more responsibility for what happens on their platform

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 15:46

Oh, and keep all the packaging from the parcel - it can be traced no matter how it was shipped.

These scrotes usually are 'a good boy' in their mums eyes.

Viviennemary · 28/11/2025 15:50

Yes report it. He sounds totally nuts and dangerous.

NewGoldFox · 28/11/2025 15:51

Can vented sellers see your address? I thought it was all through third party.
Definitely police worthy.

Cailleachnamara · 28/11/2025 15:52

Yes I'd drop into your nearest police station as soon ax you can if you have one and tell them what's gone on. Better safe than sorry!

Nothing they could do? Threats with a firearm?!

cramptramp · 28/11/2025 15:54

Is that his Vinted username on the screenshot? Can we all report him?

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 28/11/2025 15:56

Yes I would report it. However ive heard of this sort of Vinted scam on numerous occasions. It's just a photo of an air rifle, he could have just got the photo from the internet. I genuinely don't think you're in any physical danger, they're just trying to scare you to extort money from you. But that isn't to say I don't think you should feel scared and to be on the safe side I would call 101 to report it.

GaIadriel · 28/11/2025 15:56

Sounds like somebody quite young and immature, but given that anybody with even half a brain would realise they're digging themselves a massive hole with these kind of threats I'd still be a bit concerned that they may be a nutter.

"I'll send my black friends over". 🙄 Yeah, sure you will.

crazydoglover · 28/11/2025 15:58

Do you have a local police station. Print the messages and take them

It'll come down to whether they can get the information they need from Vinted. Vinted aren't platformed in the UK, so the international information sharing compliance may not be good or swift. But they can try.

Ebay, for the record, are brilliant.

If you were threatened in the same way, I'm really surprised.

Right - thanks

x12 · 28/11/2025 16:00

In addition to police is it worth tweeting Vinted with a screenshot so they publicly are held to account?

GaIadriel · 28/11/2025 16:01

I don't know how much info they need to provide to be a seller. It may be that they don't have much on there that makes them traceable so are happy to make silly threats just on the offchance it works.

I know that people who sell steroids etc online often use stuff like anonymous payment mediums that hide their bank account so maybe he's using something like that. Often the websites they use are based in countries where the UK police have no jurisdiction so it's hard to get the IP addressed released like it is over here.

Most likely it's just a muppet though.

Cornishwafer · 28/11/2025 16:02

I hope the police take this seriously.

He may well be a little scrote still living with his mummy and probably doesnt have a firearm or any friends, just out of prison or otherwise and doubt the OP is in danger (but totally normal to be scared and to not take any risks) but he could well be a threat to others in his vicinity...it sounds like he has the potential to be.
His messages remind me of the unhinged stuff school scooters write.

As a minimum they'll have name, email and bank details or credit card details.

I'd also expect them to retain IP addresses used on the account to access it, addresses used for sales and purchases, all details of all sales and purchases including methods of payment etc. IP addresses can then be resolved to a phone or Internet provider and so on.

They can. I've only sold one thing on Vinted and I had to print out a label with the buyer's full name and address and post it directly.

IP addresses can just be run through a VPN though so it'd be hard to track somebody with even a bit of a clue in this area. Bank details etc I'm not so sure how easy it is to set up a fake account.

Also, all that business of his Black friends released from prison not being scared of the police.
I know pp are saying it's not real, it's a boy, but I this is serious.

I don't. Why would these mystery people who's race is so imperative to the discussion have any desire to go round some random woman's house and terrorise her over a few quid?

Get real. He's just a muggy racist fuckhead.
