Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

I’m on hold with 101 now

Good

ohyesido · 28/11/2025 14:46

Please report that nasty little coward

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/11/2025 14:46

Vinted will have his address.
Even if he's deleted his account.

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 14:46

It is an image he's pulled off the Internet. It comes up as the first one on reverse search.

Let's see how funny the little prick finds it when armed police bang his door then.

Call 101 and stay on hold

Do not let this slide. He’s right that he has your address. Bastard sounds completely unhinged, even indirectly threatening your kids it seems?

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 14:47

If the package was being delivered to her house the shipping label would have her address.

Do you live near a station @Reasonswhy ? Maybe you could pop in and ask the person on the front desk?

Bugger all stations are open anymore. Absolutely pointless going to a nick these days.

I only asked as I live quite close to one! Never actually been in though.

Moltenpink · 28/11/2025 14:48

What a horrible little scammer. I wonder how many people he has done this to.

Pippa12 · 28/11/2025 14:48

This is absolutely awful. It’s definitely worthy of a police call- what a bloody prat!

In fact, he's either lifted it from this article about a woman being threatened via Vinted in France in 2023 or he has the original image.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 28/11/2025 14:49

I'd be calling 999 on the basis of those messages.

Dollymylove · 28/11/2025 14:49

Yes!! Definitely Police. This is why I always select post to a drop off point and not home address

Switcher · 28/11/2025 14:49

Bloody hell. Fuck 101 I'd be calling 999 immediately.

UrbanFan · 28/11/2025 14:50

It's scary. I would have called 999 immediately

MaggieFS · 28/11/2025 14:52

Bloody hell. I hope you get a decent response from the police. Sounds like he’s knowingly selling “new” fake gear which the police may want to pass to trading standards too!

I’d also report the image son mn for deletion. Not sure if it’s your username at the top - I assume his - but never good to have identifying info in public.

Christwosheds · 28/11/2025 14:52

He sounds really frightening, you are doing the right thing by calling the police OP.

Hmm this has never occurred to me before but it's a good idea - thanks.

Bookloveruk · 28/11/2025 14:54

Please call the police and report. This is disgraceful and I hope Vinted act on this now. Take care

PinkFootstool · 28/11/2025 14:55

OP, his account is already closed by the looks of it, and it places in in Newcastle.

ContinuewithGoogle · 28/11/2025 14:55

Of course report it immediately.

that said, I NEVER have the address when I send a parcel with Vinted - I have a name, and a code that the shop scans.

If you say your address is printed on the parcel you received, of course, but it's never on what I send, it might be worth changing settings for next time.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 28/11/2025 14:56

Yeah, I'd also be calling 999 not 101

Holdonforsummer · 28/11/2025 14:56

You can report a non-urgent crime to the police online, good luck. By the way, he says he never promised they were genuine goods but Vinted doesn’t allow the sale of fakes so I’m guessing he was trying to pass them off as real? (I know cos I tried to sell a fake Ralph Lauren jumper, fully disclosing it as a fake and they wouldn’t let me).

Cucy · 28/11/2025 14:57

Sounds like a kid being a twat.

Hes going to shit himself when the police knock at his door.
You can’t go around threatening people and their kids like that, especially not with a gun even though the pic is fake.

I don’t know how vinted works but do sellers also need to provide their details.
Surely he won’t be hard to track down.

Sassylovesbooks · 28/11/2025 14:57

Glad you are reporting the incident. Even if the picture he's sent you has been manipulated to perceive he's holding a gun, that's still threatening behaviour and I'm not surprised you are frightened. Screen shot everything - all messages, profile etc.

Weeken · 28/11/2025 14:57

Definitely report to the police. Though it sounds to me like someone trying to say as many outrageous things as possible in the hope you'll be intimidated enough to let him keep your cash and alert noone to his dodgy sales, he has absolutely no right to say any of those things and make you wonder and feel unsafe. And you can't take the chance.

Let him find out what his stupid, disgusting behaviour can actually cost him.

The worst vinted can do to him is ban him because he's not allowed to sell the counterfeit goods he's admitted to sending, however they will of course refund your money and not required you to return the item.
