To not want to stay at this family members house again bevmcause she doesn't change the sheets between guests?

I've just been to stay for 4 nights and was told that sheets aren't changed between guests. Told "'it was only X who stayed in them and she's family so I don't see the problem". I said I wasn't comfortable with it and was laughed at and told I was being snobbish/ precious. It wasn't in a nasty way but clearly whatever I say the sheets won't get changed as "they aren't dirty".

Then I was told not to strip the bed because Y is coming to stay next week then Z is coming for Christmas.

I honestly find it pretty revolting and don't want to stay again. My husband says it's fine, he's not bothered, but I know it's just because he doesn't want to cause offence . I really would rather pay to stay in a hotel.

So am I being precious?

I'm lax as fuck with the housework but I'd never give someone a dirty bed to sleep in, that's disgusting (I'd also deep clean before they came too, due to said laxness).

Just laughed out loud at your description “ lax as fuck” with the housework🤣 Thanks for that on a dark rainy Monday here 👍

Can I borrow it please? 💐

I think it depends. Most people don't dirty sheets after one or two nights so if the sheets looked clean and it was a family member that slept there i wouldn't mind. If it was repeated guests over time, there would come a point where i might not like it.

Me too, if it smelt fresh enough I wouldn't be inspecting it. I changed beds between guests but as long as another bed wasn't minging I wouldn't be bothered.

“Well that’s bad luck for Y and Z—the poor souls having to sleep in my dried menopausal night sweats, not to mention me & DH’s sex sheets.”

Laurmolonlabe · 05/12/2025 12:22

No I do not think you are being precious- as no one else seems to have a problem bring a sleeping bag and a pillow case swop out the pillow and sleep on top of the covers-swop the pillow back out when you leave.
I would question my husband's standards/priorities if he has no problem with this though.
It seems strange you were told though- I have had relatives that definitely do this but they never mention it, also if they are family I wouldn't expect to be stripping the bed after my stay-unless they were over 80.

Grim. What else is not being washed? Bath towels?

Probably.

MySilentLions · 05/12/2025 17:23

I would definitely be letting the future guests Y and Z know about these grim used sheets so they can either bring their own, stay elsewhere or attempt to shame the dirty clag into changing them.

GumFossil · 05/12/2025 17:26

I wouldn’t stay again either, how grim. It takes seconds to strip and remake a bed,
