To wonder why the economy, and people are struggling financially when the government could just.. ‘print’ more money to plow into it.

I just find it absolutely bizarre that businesses, NHS, education, benefits, taxpayers struggle so hard when money is literally a man made concept that we print and just ‘decide’ how much to have? Just ‘print’ more, if we created money and let’s be honest it’s just numbers, numbers are infinite.. put more into the NHS.. put more into education..

There is absolutely no reason anyone should have to struggle with money at it just baffles me that the UK is the way that it is because of some shite we made up 🤣

I think the OP has a good head on her shoulders, she cares for the needy and wants everybody to have access to the same wealth, irrespective of who they are. She is the perfect person to have the vote.
I wish more people were like her.

Countries did print money during Covid.

It spikes inflation and then measures needs to be put in place to bring inflation down. People's interest rates soar until inflation is lower.

This.

Part of the reason we're in this mess is because some govts just printed money during Covid. It makes inflation shoot up.

The only way to generate more real money is to improve productivity.

FartyAnimal · 23/11/2025 15:56

OP you really need to read some history. This has happened in other countries in the past and inflation runs riot - to the point of people needing a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread.

dottiehens · 23/11/2025 14:57

Nevermind that. I just went to Knightsbridge and the crowds buying and consuming are in full swing. Where does all money raised in taxes go? Are the North shops the same or it is just a bubble?

Edited

Are you kidding me? Most of the money spent in Knightsbridge comes from the Middle East.

I am so looking forward to the next general election. After 18 years of far right rule, an Islamic-Socialist alliance will finally put this country and its people on the right track. No more catering to billionaires and corporations, the power will be in the hand of the everyday common folk, guided by an understanding and benevolent middle class, against the ultra wealthy neo-corporate class.

SpaceRaccoon · 23/11/2025 16:02

To put it simply, money is a represtantation of goods and services that would previously have been bartered for.
Clearly, goods and services are not an infinite or unlimited resource, therefore neither can their representation be.

But people can have a really good wage. It’s not hard. So many people like me and others worked their way out of poverty by studying hard at school, being keen at work, turning up, being polite, efficient, presentable. So many people just cannot be bothered, then whinge away when a good salary doesn’t land in their lap blame others. I find it so entitled.

On the bright side it will solve the immigration issues.

Sure, the Green would welcome everyone and open the borders, but then who would want to come here then?

There's a whole brigade on Mumsnet of people who say they cannot do anything more than low paid jobs because that's all they are capable of doing.

Boomer55 · 23/11/2025 16:12

Printed money means someone has to pay for it, sooner or later.

Funnily enough, confidence in the economy is also an important factor for success. Panic buying is a sign of lack of confidence.

The only way to generate more real money is to improve productivity.

But exponential growth is unsustainable.
