To wonder why the economy, and people are struggling financially when the government could just.. ‘print’ more money to plow into it.

I just find it absolutely bizarre that businesses, NHS, education, benefits, taxpayers struggle so hard when money is literally a man made concept that we print and just ‘decide’ how much to have? Just ‘print’ more, if we created money and let’s be honest it’s just numbers, numbers are infinite.. put more into the NHS.. put more into education..

There is absolutely no reason anyone should have to struggle with money at it just baffles me that the UK is the way that it is because of some shite we made up 🤣

Maybe socialism then. I just think everything should be equal. I don’t see why anyone should suffer over a man made concept. It can be changed.. someone just doesn’t want to?

Before money and gold we were fighting over land and cows. Twas ever thus. Nothing new.

DoYouReally · 23/11/2025 09:19

I wonder why no one thought of that until now!

You need to get a basis understanding of economics including inflation and currency devaluation to understand why it's an absolutely terrible idea and thrre's a reason it's very far from the solution.

How old are you?!

I actually don’t mind being mocked for this - I am utterly clueless on anything political/economic/goverment. It’s far too confusing to me so I do likely only think in an 8 year olds simplicity 😂 but it is something I find myself pondering quite often, is just why is it ok to have people struggle to the point of suicide, homelessness, not being able to feed children. It’s so unnecessary and inhumane.. all over a bit of paper that we decided should determine the kind of life you live.

You do understand that economic rules are very different for a country like the UK, US, Japan etc?

Try reading the Deficit Myth. It provides a great analysis of why the OP's question is a perfectly good thing to do under certain circumstances.

W0tnow · 23/11/2025 09:22

There is actually a book called “why can’t they just print money” or something like that. My daughter read it when she was studying politics.

Swiftie1878 · 23/11/2025 09:24

Oh dear.

Assuming you were educated here in the UK, you’ve at least demonstrated the catastrophic failure of that system.

Lots of people don't want to, and people have always hoarded resources and fought over them before money existed.

I'm not sure socialism tallies well with human nature, but yes this country was a better place when wealth was more evenly distributed and I v much doubt Brexit would have happened if that were still the case

Also agree on the taxing of billionaires and the system where 5 people can control such a vast amount of wealth and communication

Assuming we don't mess the world up completely (quite likely) I am sure we'll look back on this period with amazement of the lack of regulation of what is basically the Wild West

Ihatetomatoes · 23/11/2025 09:25

@RisenWhine

Are you genuine and have never heard or understood the term 'inflation' or is this a joke? 😂

MarvellousMonsters · 23/11/2025 09:27

Or we could just tax the billionaires.

But isn’t inflation also just a man made thing set out to create a social foodchain?

If you want everything to be equal then what's stopping you from achieving what Elon Musk has, and I use him as an example because you have done so, and sharing your wealth?

Printing more money wouldn't help any of those things. There are some simple guides to understanding economics, if yiu are truly interested.

but if by chance i ever did aquire the wealth to make a genuine difference to the world, let alone just the UK then yes I absolutely would. He, even living lavishly could never spend his money. Who needs that amount of money? It’s ridiculous.

Unless you start bartering potatoes for brain surgery that's what we have.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 23/11/2025 09:29

I’m assuming they covered Nazi Gremany at school?

In periods of hyperinflation, the cost of bread can increase dramatically and rapidly, becoming astronomically high. For example, a loaf of bread in Germany's 1923 hyperinflation crisis cost 250 marks in January, which then escalated to 200 billion marks by November of that year. In 1918, a loaf cost about
marks, which grew to an astounding
billion marks by late 1923. This situation led to money quickly becoming worthless and people carrying large sums just to buy basic necessities.

OP wrote ‘plow’ so is most likely American, or at least from somewhere that uses US spellings.

Slimtoddy · 23/11/2025 09:30

I remember trying to explain the concept of money to one of my kids when they were young and I did think how illogical it sounded and how abstract it sounded.

It's funny how the thing you have accepted for years and more or less understood (inflation etc...) can look different if you look at it through a different lens.

I think you would need an incredible shift in global thinking to change how money works but as some people say other countries do it differently so you might learn something exploring them.

swiftie I don't think this is taught in school. Only the kids who go on to do economics / business / politics will get an understanding of it.

HelpMySocksAreTouchingMe · 23/11/2025 09:32

All of the people on the band wagon to mock the OP? Why are so few of you actually smart enough to answer it?

OP if we print more money it affects the scarcity of it, there is more to have so it becomes less valuable. Therefore to buy things, the price just goes up. Think of countries where you go on holiday and things cost like 20,000 for a loaf of bread or a pint of milk.

If I ruled the world I would make Mr Musk and his billionaire friends share their wealth evenly.

surely we can just reset the world by sharing all wealth. Everyone equal. Makes sense doesn’t it?

And all the businesses they own and run, providing employment and making the goods and services we need.

Elon Musk inherited his wealth and then used it to buy various companies, including Tesla. He hasn’t invented anything, he’s not clever or admirable.
