To wonder why the economy, and people are struggling financially when the government could just.. ‘print’ more money to plow into it.

I just find it absolutely bizarre that businesses, NHS, education, benefits, taxpayers struggle so hard when money is literally a man made concept that we print and just ‘decide’ how much to have? Just ‘print’ more, if we created money and let’s be honest it’s just numbers, numbers are infinite.. put more into the NHS.. put more into education..

There is absolutely no reason anyone should have to struggle with money at it just baffles me that the UK is the way that it is because of some shite we made up 🤣

Its a good question.
You can read about-
USSR
Chinese socialist party
North korea
Zimbabwe
Cuba
Inflation Theory
Capitalism vs socialism

Your question is an interesting one and one that has certainly been asked, and tried before.
I would read up and form your own theory.
Absolutely nothing wrong with asking these questions. I don't lretend to know a huge amount but I have certainly asked these questions and researched the answers before.
I wish more people would dive into this, we would be better informed to vote as a nation and make our life choices if everyone properly understood these things.

Pricelessadvice · 23/11/2025 12:31

I used to think this as a kid. I genuinely couldn’t understand why a man-made thing couldn’t just be made more of 😅

“If," [the management consultant] said tersely, “we could for a moment move on to the subject of fiscal policy. . .”
...
“How can you have money,” demanded Ford, “if none of you actually produces anything? It doesn't grow on trees you know.”
...
“Since we decided a few weeks ago to adopt the leaf as legal tender, we have, of course, all become immensely rich.”
Ford stared in disbelief at the crowd who were murmuring appreciatively at this and greedily fingering the wads of leaves with which their track suits were stuffed.
“But we have also,” continued the management consultant, “run into a small inflation problem on account of the high level of leaf availability, which means that, I gather, the current going rate has something like three deciduous forests buying one ship’s peanut."
...
“So in order to obviate this problem,” he continued, “and effectively revalue the leaf, we are about to embark on a massive defoliation campaign, and. . .er, burn down all the forests. I think you'll all agree that's a sensible move under the circumstances."
Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, 1980.

What happens when people think for themselves and they think differently to you?

That would be perfectly OK with me.

What about you?

Because it's wealth for the sake of wealth. Beyond a certain point, way before you reach £1 billion, the money no longer benefits you. You don't see any direct tangible advantage from having it, and therefore from that point the money is meaningless, if it only accrues to one person. Distributed across a wider group/area, it starts to have a wider purpose/function and stops being just a theoretical amount.

But some do share

Many very rich people have trusts and foundations where the money goes to worthwhile projects and is probably better distributed than if governments waste do it

Depends who they are and how much responsibility I have.
Children in a classroom thinking learning is pointless or young children thinking that bedtime is optional , exert control ( methods vary but apparently beating is verboten).
The government of the day instigating economic policies, I hope they know what they're doing but try to prepare myself in case they don't.

I'm more libertarian than authoritarian but I still have boundaries

I knew many of the low achieving kids in DC's primary schools never bothered with hw and just played on the Xbox and PlayStation.

HeyThereDelila · 23/11/2025 12:45

That would lead to hyperinflation. It’s a basic principle of economics - money has value.

If I ruled the world I would make Mr Musk and his billionaire friends share their wealth evenly.

surely we can just reset the world by sharing all wealth. Everyone equal. Makes sense doesn’t it?

Both of your ideas have been tried and it’s never worked out well.

Grammarnut · 23/11/2025 12:47

Inflation. See Weimar Germany.

I do find it interesting where philanthropists do their philanthropy it speaks to their concerns and values. Carnegie, Soros, Gates, JKR, Nuffield...Olive Lupton.

If it's so simple why do you think that we're not doing that?

It's not the idea that's simple, but.......

And not only do some give it away, their wealth is put to use.

Probably nil billionaires have billions in cash in a vault.

They are usually billionaires because their companies are worth that, so the money is in use, making things and employing people.

Or they lend or invest the money, so that others’ businesses make things and employ people.

Every day we inch closer to a world where the proletariat rise up and take the power from those who have ruined the globe with their greed and avarice. Communism is the only way we can exist as a fair and equitable society, where each can give and take according to their need, and those without will never have to fear those with all the wealth ever again.

Also Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel, Making Money, if you enjoy a satirical take.

I had a little google and he wrote it after Gordon sold off a load of the UK gold stocks. Clever chap TP, the world is poorer without him.

When I was a single parent I spent a lot of time saying to my children" Well we'll just have to wait and see if there's any money left for that". My son (5) at the time couldn't understand why we couldn't just go and get some more from the cashpoint.

👆 Here is the fear of the bourgeoisie in the flesh people. They want to keep you cowed and subservient, but they know deep in their black souls that we are more powerful than they ever will be when we reach hands across the globe to our brothers and sisters who stand with us.
