and not telling anyone, even my husband?

Is anyone else in this boat?

I've just ordered them today. My husband is dead against them. Work colleagues would probably be supportive though as half of them are on it.

I've tried everything to lose weight but food is just a crutch for me. I'm much better than I used to be but I'm a sugar addict and struggle with portion control. I've got a lot of trauma from having food restricted as a kid. As an adult I've dealt with the mental health side but just cannot lose the weight! I have tried literally every single diet you can think of. I've had a PT. I go to the gym regularly and walk the dog and play with my children. I just cannot lose the weight... It's either this or WLS...

I'm 5 stone overweight and miserable about my body and just want to change.

Go you. Uneducated people around WL drugs are the worst with their opinions. If he educated himself properly via medical journals he’d
see their value and extensive years of experience being used. The protective factors against cardiac/neuro conditions etc vastly outweigh any perceived or real risks. Some of the side effects/risks are actually due to weight loss and not the meds. Anyway. Good for you.i am getting Botox and haven’t told my DH because he’s uniformed about it and has a fixed erroneous opinion. I could educate him but can’t be arsed.

KeepYaHeadUp · 08/11/2025 16:48

Congratulations, OP. Best thing I ever did. A year in I feel amazing and I’m moving down onto a maintenance dose. YANBU but I wonder whether you’ll be able to keep it from your husband. I’ve had some gastro side effects as I’ve become used to the medication and figured out what and how much to eat, and when. He may start to suspect. And it begs the question “so what?” if he’s against it. Will he stop you?

KeepYaHeadUp · 08/11/2025 16:50

Oh, I should also say my husband was not especially interested in the WLI and wasn’t interested in whether I took them or not. He felt I’d be better off calorie counting and exercising but left me to it. 6 months later and he started them himself. So he may surprise you

JohnTheRevelator · 08/11/2025 17:13

I don't blame you. People can be SO judgemental about WLI. I have used them on and off over the last couple of years with some success but I haven't told anyone except my DD and DGD. I have not told any of my friends or other family because I can't be arsed with the judgemental remarks.

dontletmedownbruce · 08/11/2025 17:21

I have had x4 pens, all at 2.5mg, since the start of June. I still have two doses left in the fourth pen. I don’t think this is excessive. I tend to use the pen at 2 weekly intervals, instead of the recommended week.

I’ve lost a fraction more than a stone, and my BMI is 22.3. My weight is exactly where I want it to be. I don’t need or want to lose any more weight.

I haven’t told anyone and don’t intend to. It feels like a bit of a guilty secret (which it is) but I don’t care. I’m happy. At 52 and with a misfiring thyroid. I wasn’t going to lose a stone any other way.

Which of us saying your body, your choice have claimed to be perfect wives 🤔

Do you usually miss the point so easily?

On the fence : it's your business but for health reasons your dh needs to know; if you were in an accident and to be operated the doctors need this info- it could be vital!

It wouldn’t! If you needed emergency surgery, they’d just do it. You need to come off MJ before a scheduled operation because of digestive slowing, but if you needed emergency surgery it’d go ahead whether the doctors knew what meds you were on or not. I had an emergency c section under GA and it went ahead regardless of the fact I’d eaten recently because it was an emergency.

50howdidthathappen · 08/11/2025 21:09

I cant believe that people think people don’t know they are on WLI. It’s obvious!

what's sad is when people do lose weight naturally - and many do, how did they manage before the jabs? - it's always assumed it's the jabs, not just effort.

Many people struggle less to lose the weight than to MAINTAIN the loss.

So no, it's not always obvious at all.

Absolutely fine at your choice and your body.
the only issue is where are you hiding the pens ( in think they need refrigerating?) and what if you have a reaction that needs some support.

They don’t need refrigeration once opened you have 30 days

Not being unreasonable to keep it private, but unreasonable to lie or be secretive.
That kind of behaviour will cause it to become taboo. Just own it and get on with living your life with your head held high.

StrawberryJangle · 08/11/2025 21:47

I couldn't have hidden the lack of appetite, the constantly needing the loo at night time and the projectile vomiting that came from nowhere on some doses.

I think it's just best to be honest.

I haven't rft btw... Just in case.

They rarely lose five stone after struggling with ‘healthy eating’ for many years. I stand by my initial comment. It’s obvious. But you do you

They don’t “know”. They’ve made an assumption, and I think most people who want to keep it private don’t care if people make assumptions as long as they aren’t rude enough to question someone about their personal health issues without invitation. I’ve lost 10st plus, half my starting weight. I couldn’t care less what people assume about how I’ve done it, I simply don’t want to discuss it with anyone else!

notatinydancer · 08/11/2025 22:09

I just don’t see the point in keeping it secret.

They ‘know’ as most of the people who have recently lost huge amounts of weight have struggled with healthy eating for years

Who gives a fuck? I don’t care who suspects I’m on WLI, I choose to keep my medications private, no matter that they’re treating. Why fat people should automatically feel the need to declare they’re on WLI simply because of what it’s treating, is beyond me. Are depressed people pressured to reveal they’re on antidepressants because their mood improves? It’s fucking madness, Keep your nose out of other people’s medication.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 08/11/2025 22:14

I don’t think you’d be unreasonable to keep
it a secret, but it’s sad that you feel you can’t tell your DH. From your description he doesn’t sound unsupportive so I think I would still advise you to tell him. I’d perhaps begin by saying you’d been planning to keep this a secret because you were worried about how he’d react, but the decision is made and you don’t want to hear anything negative from him about it, and you don’t want to feel like you can’t be open with him so…

I couldn’t care less and would never ask as I don’t need to as so obvious but
clearly your reply shows you care. I am just saying people know

2GreatFatSquirrels · 08/11/2025 22:16

Your choice. My husband knows and my sister but I haven’t told my best mate. She was really scathing about another friend who started them so I just thought… not her business. Not their body. So long as you’re getting them safely and legitimately then it’s your business.

Wait why is he a “cunt” because he doesn’t like the idea of the jabs? Does everyone have to worship them lest it offend someone who has made a different decision? Some people aren’t ok with them. That’s absolutely fine.

Absolutely. Buy intimately he doesn’t have a say if his adult partner wants to use them.

Her reply shows that she cares about people being nosy, rude and overinvolved in other people's lives. Not necessarily that she cares about their ruminations on other people's private medical information, so long as they keep those ruminations in their head, where they belong.

How are you going to keep them at the right temperature if you can’t keep them in the fridge?
