and not telling anyone, even my husband?

Is anyone else in this boat?

I've just ordered them today. My husband is dead against them. Work colleagues would probably be supportive though as half of them are on it.

I've tried everything to lose weight but food is just a crutch for me. I'm much better than I used to be but I'm a sugar addict and struggle with portion control. I've got a lot of trauma from having food restricted as a kid. As an adult I've dealt with the mental health side but just cannot lose the weight! I have tried literally every single diet you can think of. I've had a PT. I go to the gym regularly and walk the dog and play with my children. I just cannot lose the weight... It's either this or WLS...

I'm 5 stone overweight and miserable about my body and just want to change.

OP posts:
Marble10 · 07/11/2025 20:09

I’ve been there OP.
’Luckily’ I became ill (not WLI related) so I gave this as my excuse for losing weight. I’m now maintenance so I’m not losing anymore, but I am staying at my goal weight. No one suspects a thing. They did in the beginning though 100%

HappyGolmore2 · 07/11/2025 20:10

Your body, your choice, your money, your health and sod anyone else. For what it’s worth I also didn’t tell DP for a few months as I did t want the added pressure of expectation…

ThatKeenShaker · 07/11/2025 20:11

None of anyone's business.

Your husband, however, it's not great. It can't be a healthy relationship if you hide important stuff. If you suffer from side effects, it would probably be helpful if he knew.

He will notice a weight loss, if you are not dieting specially, that's a worry!

Whyherewego · 07/11/2025 20:11

I did a short stint on WLI. My DP knows but no one else. I think it's hard not to tell DP as he will notice (presumably) your complete change of food intake. It worked to lose some weight which is what I needed and then I used that period to change my eating habits and then came off and am trying to maintain them. Good luck

landlordhell · 07/11/2025 20:04

I understand but as it’s a drug I think you should tell your husband in case it goes wrong. Also have you thought about what happens when you come off the drug? How will you control your eating?

Many people don’t come off the drug. You can take it long term if you choose, at a maintenance dose.

TheShyMumX · 07/11/2025 21:11

I think the key things here would be

  1. don’t they have to be kept refrigerated are you able to hide that
  2. if you lost the weight quickly after years of not being able to and he got suspicious and asked would you tell him - how would that go down?
  3. you say you struggle with portion control and sugar addiction - once you’ve lost your 5stone will you be able to keep it off without WLI will you be able to use the time it takes to lose the weight to also work on that

I wish you the very best! My sister has just moved up a dose and on the day after her injection she farts non stop all day but other than that she is feeling so great about herself which is lovely to see

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 07/11/2025 21:15

Everyone will know anyway.
It's now an assumption, usually rightly, if people shed weight quickly.

  1. The pen only needs to be refrigerated before first use. They are small enough to put into a food packaging box and tucked away in a fridge, so it's not an insurmountable issue.
  2. The DH would see the OP eating less which would explain the weight loss. Weight loss isn't necessarily quick either.
  3. How to maintain is an issue for any weight loss method. Via any method lots of people regain. This is not an issue specific to the injections.

Edited

They won't know. They will make an assumption as you say, and won't actually have any knowledge one way or the other. And, what people assume is irrelevant, if they aren't stupid or intrusive enough to tell people their assumptions. The OP doesn't want to tell people. I doubt she's worried about what people might decide to assume and keep to themselves.

DesparatePragmatist · 07/11/2025 21:30

I've not told my DH, OP. Not because he'd judge. But it's a decision and a journey I wanted to own, for me, with no element of justification or performance or apology. I've just sorted the meds, done the eating plan, lost the weight, joined the gym, done the workouts, vinted a whole new size 10 wardrobe, no-one else's business at all.

Good luck! You'll feel so much better. And it's empowering, making this your thing. It doesn't have to be a shared endeavour.

Abouttheauthor · 07/11/2025 21:30

Didn't tell a soul, including my husband, too much yada yada around it.
Any body asks I say that I lost weight by not eating as much food, which is true😁over 4.5 stone down, I'm now on a permanent diet and eat the way I eat without thinking, small portions, fork down when full, intermittent fasting, go for it OP you'll be 5 stone down in no time.

  1. oh I thought they needed to be kept refrigerated! My only experience is through my sister and I know that’s where she keeps her pen
  2. Yes re the eating less but OP said she had tried everything and it was more a question of if she had to tell her DH if he noticed and asked what would his reaction be and would she be confident to tell him
  3. keeping weight off not WLI specific no but as you say a general weight loss problem so still an issue to be considered

trying to be helpful as these are all things I’ve thought about as breastfeeding hasn’t been quite the weight loss miracle I was led to believe so am considering it once I’m done breast feeding

YANBU to take the weightloss injections, they are absolutely a great help for people who find it difficult to lose weight. But YABU to keep it a secret. If other people very like yourself ("a sugar addict who struggles with portion control") see you losing weight without knowing how, they will just feel even worse about themselves. Surely you'd want to make it clear that you needed these injections to make weight-loss possible for you? Otherwise you're re-enforcing the message that diet and exercise can work for everyone.

Do you honestly think the OP is responsible for other people and how they feel about themselves and their own weight?

Lisamoana · 07/11/2025 21:41

Yabu to not tell anyone for health reasons- if you passed out or had a medical emergency I think at least 1 person should know!

Yanbu to take the injections!

They need to be kept in the fridge - how any you planning on hiding them from him?

Also- you really don’t need permission.

WhiteAmaryllis · 07/11/2025 21:56

What's all this about DH needing to know so he can be the one to tell a medical professional after a hypothetical illness.

I took them without telling anyone (and I did stop because of side effects which made me feel very ill), but on the off chance I'd needed to see a doctor, DH wouldn't have been there and I would have spoken for myself.

Even in a genuine emergency, I can't really see a situation where having the medicine in your system could change the treatment needed. It can't be undone, even if it's known, and there are so many things where recommendations just aren't followed if it can't be helped.

poppetandmog · 07/11/2025 21:57

Do you eat together usually? Surely he’ll notice when you start eating significantly less food?

WhiteAmaryllis · 07/11/2025 21:57

They're fine for 30 days at room temperate from being opened. Can easily be kept in a cabinet or drawer until it's used up.

Mum2Fergus · 07/11/2025 21:58

I’ve been on MJ since February, absolutely no-one knows.

Branleuse · 07/11/2025 22:00

Tell your husband to do some research on them because you want to give it a go, and you think its worth trying.
Theres articles you could show him about how they work and other benefits.
Tell him that you want him to just have an open mind.

Its not fair on you to not be able to talk to him about it. Why should you have to be secretive?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/11/2025 22:02

Your medical treatment, your medication, your right to privacy. Just as it would be your right to use hormonal contraception, undergo dental treatment, take antidepressants or have a smear test and have it kept confidential.

It's irrelevant what medication it is and what it is for - your right to privacy and confidentiality is absolute.

Kalettesarethebest · 07/11/2025 22:05

People don’t understand and will judge. It’s absolutely your choice and I did the same. As far as I know, no one knows I’ve been using wli and I’ve just got into a size 10 suede skirt after losing over 4 stones. I haven’t felt this good (or light) in my adulthood.
You’re doing the right thing. Good luck x

QuinoafromKew · 07/11/2025 22:07

If I found out my DH was taking a medication that could have side effects and had not told me it would negatively affect our relationship.
If I found out my DH was taking a medication that he knew I did not approve of without discussing it with me it would negatively affect our relationship.
If I found out my DH was taking a medication that he knew I did not approve of and using our shared funds without discussing it with me it would negatively affect our relationship.
For me this would be wrong on so many levels.

If you have lost a lot of weight in the past 9 months, trust me, they know.....
