for secretly taking weightloss injections

and not telling anyone, even my husband?

Is anyone else in this boat?

I've just ordered them today. My husband is dead against them. Work colleagues would probably be supportive though as half of them are on it.

I've tried everything to lose weight but food is just a crutch for me. I'm much better than I used to be but I'm a sugar addict and struggle with portion control. I've got a lot of trauma from having food restricted as a kid. As an adult I've dealt with the mental health side but just cannot lose the weight! I have tried literally every single diet you can think of. I've had a PT. I go to the gym regularly and walk the dog and play with my children. I just cannot lose the weight... It's either this or WLS...

I'm 5 stone overweight and miserable about my body and just want to change.

It just feels weird to keep a secret from someone who we share our life with. Also two people I know collapsed from kidney issues and thankfully their husbands could tell paramedics what was wrong.

Didn’t one of them already have kidney issues and the other an eating disorder or something? I’m sure I’ve seen this story before.

chakademusandplier · 08/11/2025 08:09

DO IT OP and good luck!

I get botox despite my husband lovingly telling me I dont need it (yeah because I get botox lmao) and he's never noticed once.

I do it for me, and I use my own money.

I would do it, not tell anyone and maybe once it had been successful I might share the real reason, that way noone can go on about how it might not work etc.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 08/11/2025 08:11

Your body, your choice. Absolutely no judgement from me at all. I would tell my husband though - he can be against them all he likes but your doing something to help you loose weight to be healthy. This is your choice, not his.

arcticpandas · 08/11/2025 08:11

On the fence : it's your business but for health reasons your dh needs to know; if you were in an accident and to be operated the doctors need this info- it could be vital!

YANBU to take the weightloss injections, they are absolutely a great help for people who find it difficult to lose weight. But YABU to keep it a secret. If other people very like yourself ("a sugar addict who struggles with portion control") see you losing weight without knowing how, they will just feel even worse about themselves. Surely you'd want to make it clear that you needed these injections to make weight-loss possible for you? Otherwise you're re-enforcing the message that diet and exercise can work for everyone.

Op doesn't owe anyone this information.

Salvadoridory · 08/11/2025 08:12

Its your choice but I would prefer telling him to believe what he likes, keep it to himself and fuck off with the sanctimonious judgement. You are an adult and dont have to ask for permission or approval. Maybe bin him and keep the injections.

RedToothBrush · 08/11/2025 08:14

If your relationship with your husband is this poor that you can't tell him, it's not healthy.

Lose an additional 14+ stone to the five stone you plan to or work on telling him.

ArtesianWater · 08/11/2025 08:42

Ijustwaited · 08/11/2025 07:15

What on earth do you mean “if anything happens”?

in any event event, if it’s successful - people will assume WLI

No need for such a strong reaction. I'm referring to exactly what many posters are referencing throughout the thread - that the risk of telling no-one is that no-one can provide context to healthcare professionals if I were to experience a serious adverse reaction. Is your DH naturally slim so won't understand? I think I would not go out of my way to actively lie if he asked you if you was taking the jab I would say yes. However I would just keep quiet for now and continue.

Yeah this is exactly it. He's never been overweight in his life! Maybe about a stone heavier during covid. He eats loads but also has ADHD and is extremely active, never stops, can't sit still. The heaviest he's ever been is 12 stone.
I think of myself as pretty active but I have to constantly be mindful and make the effort to be if that makes sense - gym 3x a week but have to drag myself there, 10-12k steps a day but have to get out for a 9pm dog walk to rack them up! DH just seems to naturally be that way inclined.

I think he would completely understand 'why' as he knows how much I want to lose weight... I think a big part of my fear around telling him is that if I'm one of the unlucky few it doesn't work for, it's just another diet I've failed at. And then he'll have to pick up the pieces when I'm sad and moaning about my body again.

I wouldn't say it's that I can't tell him, it's more that I don't want to.

I suppose it's coming from a place of shame, embarrassment that it's come to this, and anxiety that it won't work and I'll have wasted money and time on another thing that doesn't work.

I think it’s clear from everyone around me , on the telly, in the papers and in my case looking in the mirror that they are a major game changer and by and large do work.
I don’t know anyone who has stuck with them and not missed doses due to finances that hasn’t lost shed loads of weight

When you take MJ the prescriber is legally obligated to tell your GP so it will be on OPs NHS medical file.
they won’t prescribe it without the Gp details.

I didn’t tell DP til I was ready. And I deliberately stayed on a Lowe dose to lose weight slowly over time - for lots of reasons and 4 stone down most people haven’t really noticed as it’s been so gradual.
go for it.

twilightcafe · 08/11/2025 08:56

Yanbu.
Your medical affairs - your business.

The only people who know I'm on MJ are my sister and one of my closest friends. I haven't told my husband mainly because there's a small chance he'll tell his family. I don't like some of them and don't want them knowing this about me.

Gettingbysomehow · 08/11/2025 09:03

Its nobodies business but yours and then when you lose weight you can be smug and say you ate less and moved more 😂
I've lost 5 stone on it. People keep walking past me because they don't know who I am.
Best thing I ever did.

And everyone will know you are telling porkies!

But who cares - the weight would be off 🤷‍♀️

But unless he’s as thick as shit… you don’t think he’d be curious that after many years of failed diets, suddenly you lose a large amount of weight in a short period of time with apparent incredible ease?

TheWeekOnTheDalymountSeat · 08/11/2025 09:07

Do you have somewhere to store the pen so he wouldn’t find it? That’d be my biggest concern if I was going down the secret path.

I’ve been open about it with DH, but not discussed more openly other than with my parents, siblings. I’ve lost 18lbs in 6 weeks, so it’s not particularly noticeable yet, yet to trigger the ‘how have you lost it’ conversations from friends & colleagues. I am now 14st 2lb.

Anyway, the point I was getting to is, absolutely do it, it’s fantastic if the side effects are kind to you. Wish I’d done it years ago x

Nobody knows I’ve been on them except my best friend. Everybody else thinks I’ve been calorie counting. I keep them under the veg drawer in the fridge. I’m 7 stone down and at target now. I started them in February. Good luck!

That’s brilliant. You must feel so much better.

It’s nobody else’s buisness and you don’t have to tell anyone but I doubt anyone thinks you have been calorie counting. It would be out of order for anyone to challenge you about it but everyone will be privately thinking you have been using weight loss jabs.

I think the thing is I have been calorie counting. The jabs just make it easier with willpower. And it’s nobodies business. I have lost similar amounts of weight in the past in similar amounts of time on weight watchers, slimming world etc. just never kept it off. Hopefully this time it’s gone for good.

ViolaPlains · 08/11/2025 09:19

I didn’t tell anybody. I was happy with my choice but didn’t need everybody’s uninformed negativity.

Agree. They are apparently so mainstream now and the loss is so dramatic everyone k owe. But I wish people wouldn’t lie as it makes other that are struggling to lose feel like a failure. Just like those celebs that lied about gastric bands .

If you have lost a lot of weight in the past 9 months, trust me, they know.....

I've lost 3 stone this year and I'm not taking the weight loss drugs. I've still got another 3 to go.

A few have asked and I've told them I'm not taking them.

I guess they will all just assume I am lying then.

It doesn't matter. I am doing it for me not anyone else. For me food is very much an emotional problem and I'm working on dealing with that issue rather than just the losing weight issue. That's why I want to do it by working through my mental health instead. (Also I can't lie I do have some concerns over muscle loss/bone density etc).

However if I ever get to the stage I decide to take them then I'll just tell people. I lost the first 3 stone but then struggled so went on MJ or whatever for the last 3.

Not really sure why people are keeping it a secret.

My WL is taking longer probably but that is okay. The shock of changing physically has taken a bit to get used to (I was overweight for about 5 years). Doing it slowly is giving my brain and skin more time to adjust.

Plus I have to admit I think why pay for it if I don't have to.

Never say never though!

Plus I am getting help with my MH so perhaps that is helping indirectly with my weight loss.

I honestly don't understand why some people might feel ashamed for at least trying something that seems to work for so many.

You only have to read posts of this nature on here. So many people happy to call you a cheat, tell you it’s an easy way out, that you're still being lazy…..putting people down rather than supporting. So many who have never been near a WLI, who don’t struggle with weight themselves, pointing their fingers, making comments, rolling eyes. I have a lot of weight to lose. I am in cahoots with one of my colleagues who disclosed to me she was using them but no one else has a clue. It won’t become common knowledge because the judgement is unnecessary.

Its your own private medical information, so I wouldn't even view it as a secret....it's just not their business.

Good luck with it...it's the best thing I've ever done...three stone off in 6 months

Which jabs do you have? How much and where to buy? Any side effects? Not being lazy, but when I Google there are so many options and I want to get recommendations.
