The immigration related clown show continues

So now an Algerian national who was released by mistake last week is at large. As if the previous debacle with the Epping forest sex offender wasn’t bad enough.

The fact that we are hearing about this again and again tells us that,
This happens all the time
Foreign national offenders are over represented in crime statistics
Immigration is out of control
People working in Home office, prison service and and every other government department are incompetent and beyond useless.

And these people have the audacity to tell us that they want more of the public’s money in taxes.

At this point, this government (and the previous one) is laughing at us. They are taking the piss out of us. This country is broken and Labour and Tories need to be voted so far into oblivion and out of power that they never get anywhere power, ever again.

It's nothing to do with immigration though. It happens every day but those individuals clearly aren't newsworthy because they're not all asylum seekers.

You don't think high levels of immigration has an impact? We have thousands of foreign nationals being housed in an already overcrowded prison estate.
This man has committed previous sexual offenses and shouldn't even be in the UK. We shouldn't be at risk from this person. Of course its newsworthy.

Really? I don't agree with your statement.

There’s high disapproval ratings for Starmer and polling for Labour that drops each week so it’s easy to discern.

Greenwitchart · 05/11/2025 21:31

I think the prison service is yet another public service that is on its knees because of lack of investment and not enough staff so it is no surprise that everything is falling apart and that mistakes are being made.

Polls just show that much of the electorate has a zero attention span and demands instant gratification like a toddler. In this behaviour they are ably abetted by the press. These demands started pretty much on day 1...

Of course it would help if the government made more noise about the good things they have put in place to date.

Thortour · 05/11/2025 21:42

Shouldn’t you be outside some hotel with your Chinese made flag scaring innocent people?
Bored of people like you.

Agreed, except the demands and negativity from some people, including posters on here, started even before the general election.

Right, so there were 4 years in which he could have been deported and wasn't - and yet it's all Labour's fault?

Bound to be. Some people wouldn't have it any other way. 🙄

Don’t do that. Facts and stats hurt their brains because they can’t massage them into their narrative.

How come 14 years of austerity and cuts have only led to a handful of cock ups like this ?

Interestingly while the Tories were in power they averaged 17 wrongful releases every month.

I can't find any information on if they were immigrants or not, but I would suggest their immigration status is immaterial.

But of course the people promoting their anti Labour initiative, which they began long before the election, probably neither noticed nor cared when that was happening.

Dude go and touch some grass. Utterly ridiculous. The fumes from painting roundabouts have gone to your head.

Well done OP. You've made a few sweeping statements and then blamed the entire civil service for the country's ills. Many civil servants are MN contributors, and all of them work in increasingly pressured and underfunded departments. Your post is generalised ill-informed rubbish.

@ilovesootywhy do you need everyone to back your party? You’re in the minority backing them now. If you want Labour only maybe a Labour only site rather than a public one would do that for you.

I expect the OP wants Reform to take a hatchet to the Civil Service. Perhaps she'll tell us more about Reform's justice policy. Or perhaps not.

My question: in terms of impact on the victim, what is the difference between a crime committed by a) a person born in the UK b) a person who has been granted British citizenship as an immigrant coming into the country c) a person who comes to the UK as an asylum seeker using an irregular route d) a person who comes to the UK as an asylum seeker using a regular route e) an economic migrant who comes to the UK using an irregular route?
My answer: absolutely nothing.

Neglect of the prison estate for 14 years. Insufficient prison places. High staff turnover. Low pay. Demotivated staff. Of course there's chaos. It's a wonder it's not worse.

I suspect that they would prefer their attacker wasn't subsequently granted asylum. Currently crimes with sentences of less than a year in prison are overlooked for asylum decisions. Our Government considers that men with convictions for indecent exposure for example are a welcome addition to our society.

MidlandsWoman · 05/11/2025 18:08

OP - your claims are overblown nonsense and do not follow at all from the fact that someone was accidentally released from prison. Perhaps you could think of taking a basic course in logical reasoning.

You might also want to consider how the prison service is currently being supported by a very large number of foreign workers. If immigration rules are tightened, they will have to leave and the prison service will have even fewer staff than it already does.

Exactly. A load of waffle with no form of logic

Catchee · 05/11/2025 17:23

So bored of this outrage. This happens all the time in all systems. Mistakes get made. All you are seeing is the right wing press jumping on it over and over. I'm just so bored of hearing about immigration all day and every day on here. So many people swallowed the Kool aid or bots. No small boats for a week. Illegal immigration is down. Loads of good news (buried) regarding industry and education but no, you do you, Bang on about the immigrants and illegals.

agreed. I have been thinking this for weeks, months

I have no problem with a rational balanced plan for immigration, there are problems

but the problems are so overblown. I genuinely don’t understand why people believe all problems are caused by it

all sense of proportion has been lost, blown apart by hate and misinformation

It's scary isn't it. How much some people want to hate.
I don't necessarily believe in completely open borders.
I don't care more about immigrants more than homeless (white) veterans.
I don't think all immigrants should be given a brand new house with a home gym, big flat screen tv and a huge wad of cash while (white) British citizens starve. (I know this doesn't actually happen incase it's not obvious.)
I don't hate asylum seekers though, I'm balanced enough to see what is going on here.
The rich continues to get richer whilst blaming the most vulnerable in society for their mess and there's enough hate and prejudice in built in people to believe it.
Yes, I know some of those vulnerable people will be criminals, sex offenders etc. No I don't like having sex offenders of any background in the UK. I don't think anyone does.

Summerhillsquare · 06/11/2025 05:05

Aye, people voting for tax cuts are definitely going to vote for parties explaining tax rises are necessary to fund good public services 🤔

Bringemout · 06/11/2025 05:19

If someone has committed a crime it should be straight on a plane and deported. The other guys who was accidentally released was apparently given £500 to not try to appeal because once he does we are stuck with him for years. The reality is it appears to be difficult to get rid of people. A visa overstayer should have been escorted directly to the airport.

This was true under the conservatives as well. I remember those idiots that managed to prevent the deportation of a bunch of sex offenders on their plane. Oh and the labour Mp’s objecting the deportation of criminals too.

It’s actual insanity.

I find it really easy to not commit crimes, I regularly don’t sexual assault anyone, violently assault anyone or steal anything. I don’t understand why we think that anyone that commits any kind of crime should be eligible to live in the UK.

It’s not that fucking hard.
