The immigration related clown show continues

So now an Algerian national who was released by mistake last week is at large. As if the previous debacle with the Epping forest sex offender wasn’t bad enough.

The fact that we are hearing about this again and again tells us that,
This happens all the time
Foreign national offenders are over represented in crime statistics
Immigration is out of control
People working in Home office, prison service and and every other government department are incompetent and beyond useless.

And these people have the audacity to tell us that they want more of the public’s money in taxes.

At this point, this government (and the previous one) is laughing at us. They are taking the piss out of us. This country is broken and Labour and Tories need to be voted so far into oblivion and out of power that they never get anywhere power, ever again.

Yawn, at least try to pretend to stay on the topic. Your constant bashing of Labour, is beyond tedious. This is about wrongly released convicts, which was happening wholesale under the Cons too!

That’s ok I feel the same about your constant pro Labour stance no matter what.

If you don’t like what your party said in quotes that really is a you problem.

So you don't want this government held to account because they're Labour?
You can't keep blaming the press. Its a mess of their own making.

I think they’ll blame anything they can get their hands on. But they are struggling, each week they lose support. It’s only a few on mn batting for them.

Since you seem to be so triggered and angry, the cap must fit.

Ah I see we are playing right wing bingo, you missed the word snowflake 😂

I'm not angry, I'm mildly entertained at being called words by people who have no understanding of what they mean.

Do keep frothing on the Internet though, as it must be terrible for your blood pressure...

comms, got it.

not policy and substance then?

I shall be interested to see the policy and substance when the Reform Party tell the electorate the details of their ideas about the prison service and the courts.

How about we focus on the actual government instead? You know, the people who are in power right now and impacting all of our lives.

How do you explain Labours torrid ratings now?
And the pace of their decline?

Easy, that's just the result of a relentless media smear campaign and an incredible easy to manipulate population.

There's a difference between 'holding to account' and 'hounding from before day 1'.

TheCurious0range · 06/11/2025 09:27

Over 200 incorrect prison releases were enacted in the last 12 months, most of whom were British nationals.
Is the criminal justice system in particular prisons and probation woefully underfunded. Yes without doubt, parts of the system are on their knees so 'human error' is inevitable. There are also questions to be asked, that have been asked within the system for a long time, as to why release dates are still manually calculated by an administrator rather than having a computer sudden that calculates them automatically. It has nothing to do with immigration. The vast majority of violent and sexual offenders in this country are white British born males.

monkeysox · 06/11/2025 08:11

100s were released by mistake while tories were in power.

I agree but the number has more than doubled in the last year. This is largely due to a succession of short term measures implemented without proper consultation that have made eligibility for release ridiculously complicated. The Tories did it too in other areas this isn't a party political argument for me, but working in criminal justice the amount of change we have seen back and forth over the last year with more to come and no funding is driving long serving staff out of the business and we are used to being a political football, that has an impact on the safety of the public but prisons and probation aren't high on the public's agenda for financing.

Why the obsession with Reform?

Absolutely. The media and some posters here had their agenda from well before the election, continue to pursue it and levelled little criticism at the previous government during the years they were in power.

I spent years working alongside criminal justice agencies and I agree that it's been a longstanding issue. I well remember Grayling and the probation service. I also accept that the current government needs to do more to address it.

Yes everyone loves them, or they would if everyone on mn could just post the same as you, it’s a tough one.

It isn't about loving the government. It is about giving them a fair crack of the whip. For some people here, and I count you among them, even if this government delivered everything on day 1, you would still complain, just because of who they are.

I’m sure you do and that means nothing at all.

The policies looked weak pre GE and what’s happening now with tax hikes and overturning manifesto pledges is pretty much what I thought would happen.

It was anti growth and a spiral of tax rises would be hard to avoid. It’s a shame Reeves and Starmer couldn’t think it through.

Some posters are already doing the same with Reform.

Will you give Reform a 'fair crack of the whip' if they win the next election? Or will you hold them to account from day 1?

If someone shows you who they are believe them. When they sell off the NHS, take away human rights and reduce minimum wage people will be so shocked. And they still won't stop the boats.

I've had no time for Farage and his various roles and incarnations for many years and I don't expect my opinion to change any time in the future whether he gains power or not.

so it’s academic.

It's not immigration related, it the collapse of the CJS and prison overcrowding.

All that started under the Conservative government.

Yes thats true, but things are getting worse under Labour.

https://howardleague.org/why-are-prisons-overcrowded/

How did we get into this mess?

These problems did not come out of the blue. In 2014, we published a briefing called Breaking Point, which revealed that 78 prisons were holding more people than they were designed to accommodate. We wrote: “Urgent action is needed to ease the strain on the prison system. The MoJ must take action to reduce the prison population and increase prison officer numbers.”
