The immigration related clown show continues

So now an Algerian national who was released by mistake last week is at large. As if the previous debacle with the Epping forest sex offender wasn’t bad enough.

The fact that we are hearing about this again and again tells us that,
This happens all the time
Foreign national offenders are over represented in crime statistics
Immigration is out of control
People working in Home office, prison service and and every other government department are incompetent and beyond useless.

And these people have the audacity to tell us that they want more of the public’s money in taxes.

At this point, this government (and the previous one) is laughing at us. They are taking the piss out of us. This country is broken and Labour and Tories need to be voted so far into oblivion and out of power that they never get anywhere power, ever again.

More mocking, you think a largely paper system can be upgraded to an computerised system by non experts?

As i said, they are making a start which is more than the previous Govt ever did.

Err, I wasn't mocking. I quoted the government's words.
But you carry on with your unfounded accusations and unhinged attacks.

Yep why not post without all that, nearly everyone else manages it.

The prison system has been crumbling for a long time. Even when I worked alongside it some years ago fax was outdated, yet it was the only means of communication to make arrangements for prescribing appointments on release - incredibly frustrating and inefficient even then. It's good that a start is being made on updating the system, but it won't be a quick fix.

Would you be happy if they were deported to a country and then released? and many countries will not accept back these people, just as we don't accept back some people we don't want here.

Why are they in the UK? Student & work visa's, partners of UK nationals, asylum seekers, EU nationals, tourists - people can visit and stay for up to 6 months.

I am not sure your assertion is correct poster.

Do you have any data to back it up please?

I heard on the news that many prisons don't even have WiFi? Is that deliberate for security, do you know?

Internet access for staff in prisons is usually limited to heavily restricted and monitored internal systems, for security reasons.

Surprised to see the following reported - curious to see if it gains wider support within the government.

Migrants should be forced to pay back the costs of their asylum claims once granted, the head of the Red Wall caucus of Labour MPs has said.
Jo White, who chairs the group of up to 50 Labour MPs, said the Government should introduce an asylum repayment system similar to the way student loans operated.

She said the move – where the Government would recoup the costs of financial support and housing – could act as a deterrent to migrants seeking to come to Britain.

The cost of operating the UK’s asylum system is currently more than £5bn, of which £2.1bn is allocated to housing and supporting more than 32,000 migrants in about 200 hotels.

Ms White said: “I would like [the Chancellor] Rachel Reeves to announce in the Budget that asylum claimants, once their claims have been processed, should be responsible for the costs of their claim.
“They should be expected to work and, a bit like a student loan, they should pay back over time the whole cost of their claim. That may also act as a deterrent.”

I'm confused - will people also be charged if their claim is processed and refused? In which case, why would they pay?

It says ‘once granted’.

O yes, thanks!
So this policy is designed to stop those genuinely in need of asylum from coming to the UK, not those who aren't?

I think it’s primarily designed to be a deterrent, as it says.

For those who genuinely wish to build a life in the UK, and not simply claim benefits, then this would obviously address that.

I don’t have a particular view on it, otherwise.

Surely you can only pay back something if you earn a certain amount. In fact it references the student loan which only kicks in at a threshold. Many do not pay it back.

I think Labour need headlines on this and the amount of stuff they’ve announced so far eg the 300m change in law haven’t done anything at all despite it being ‘game changing’.

I think its constituent-led, given the Red Wall origin…

What does that have to do with the accidental release of prisoners?

I see today that the ‘next round of funding’ is due to the French to ‘stop the boats’- cue a new performative ‘initiative’ to use nets. And you can bet our useless government will fall for that one and dole out more ‘funding’

What do you propose we do instead of funding the French? Our natural borders are our shores. If we want the French to police our borders for us by preventing migrants from leaving their shores, we gotta pay them, right? I expect it's quite expensive, are we sure our funding is adequate? France owes us nothing, we're not even a fellow EU member state.

Thet are taking the money but providing nothing.
