To share tips on how I went from 12 and a half stone - to 7 and a half stone in 9 months?

I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

I think she is trying to point out the absurdity of some of the attitudes.

Fair enough. It touched a nerve so I may have missed the sarcasm.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 03/11/2025 18:08

I'd be happy with your starting weight..but I'm 67 and 5ft 7... l have lost four stone in a year on mounjaro.. swapping to wegovy via my GP next week. If you loose any more .. according your BMI you will become underweight.. you are on the cusp. If only it was as easy as you say and what you did.
But congratulations.

I don't know any grown woman with a weight this low. I weighed 7 and a half stone at 14 yrs old and had an eating disorder. Sounds mad to be this weight at 30!

I am five 2, small build and weigh that. BMI in the healthy range but at the low end. And am 55. Dr not concerned. Oh and no ED. Some people are just slim. Hence the bmi range.

Well done I'm jealous 😊

Same!

Op, did you use a particular app to count calories.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/11/2025 18:15

I knew this thread would bring out a load of jealous, cynical women.

Hmmm it’s possible but maybe we’d have a strong relationship by then IF this were to happen

But you'll always be wondering which 'slim pretty girl' he'll be looking at/thinking about/leaving you for.

Great achievement losing the weight, but I wouldn't be planning a long term future with John.

I can see why some of this touches nerves.

It's a thorny topic and MH and self esteem around these issues are so important.

To be honest, like a pp, I feel a bit saddened by op's chirpy lack of awareness about some of it. It reads like something out of the 80s or 90s.

Healthy attitudes and approaches to weight loss can be a positive thing, but "I was struggling to lose weight but managed to cut calories right back to make myself acceptable (aka a "skinni minni") to a man I knew would not accept me otherwise" is an attitude that makes it hard for me to jump on the "oh congratulations" bandwagon here.

Charlize43 · 03/11/2025 18:17

What happens if John turns out to be gay. Will you blow up to the size of a bus?

It's always best to loose weight for yourself.

OP is perfectly fine for her height. BMI 19.8 - slim.
Maybe you just don’t know shorter, slim women?

It's fine for her height, as she has already pointed out.

TiredofLDN · 03/11/2025 18:25

What are your maintenance calories?

and do you have kids?

EmeraldRoulette · 03/11/2025 18:25

Height makes such a difference.

I'm just sharing this in case it makes anyone laugh - (not withstanding the strange people). There was a scene in a programme called "devious maids" when someone is in a lift and has to do that thing of breaking through the ceiling. The person she's with ask her if she's prepared to do it. And the lady says "hell YES, I have been dieting all my life at this moment". And she's overjoyed 😂😂

I found that really funny. Anyway, I paid no attention to the John thing. I was just relieved to see somebody talking about losing weight that way. P

opencecilgee · 03/11/2025 18:26

Five stone? In 9 months?

give over, you have been at the wegovy

I bet she's bloody hungry though

I don't think she is necessarily. Smaller people (and she is now both short and thin) don't need as much food. Also depends what the food is and things like protein content.

Newname71 · 03/11/2025 18:32

Well done OP! My “John” is a music festival in June next year. I need to lose about 8 and a half stone!! But tbh my “John” has been the same music festival for the last 3 years and I haven’t managed it yet! I’m 54 and really want to dress totally inappropriately for my age at the festival. Maybe I’ll buy the hot pants to inspire me 😂

Sockdays · 03/11/2025 18:33

Great job OP.
Your health will be very positively impacted too.
It is the burden of short people, that weight you gain can be seen quicker unfortunately.
Particularly as we age.
Good luck with John!

This is a great loss. Well done.

However (you may already know all this, but), I'd read up on calory restrictive diets and the 'set point'. Often people end up heavier than when they started. But if you're aware of it, I guess you can try to mitigate that! There's a good podcast on 'Zoe' called 'The science behind weightloss' (or something like that).

Good on you, though. Major inspiration!! Thanks !

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 03/11/2025 18:37

Loosing weight to gain a makes attention 🤮.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 03/11/2025 16:51

Have you shagged John, then?

This is why I love mumsnet 🤣❤️

Pliudev · 03/11/2025 18:47

I've lost 1.5 stones in 6 weeks by fasting from 8pm until 10am and doing 15 minutes of chair yoga each morning. I also walk my dog 3 times a day, total about 80 minutes. I'm in my 70s and it's the first time I've lost weight without joining SW or cutting back hard on calories. If someone had told me I could do this so easily I could have saved myself a lot of stress over the years. I have type 2 diabetes as a result but my blood sugars are falling and, if I continue, the diabetic nurse reckons they will reach 'normal' in a few months. Try it, it works!
