I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

If I try to stick to 1300 calories a day I feel terrible and my cold sores flare up. I'm 5"10 though.
I lost 3 stone in the last 12 months by using Nutracheck - 1600/700 calories a day.

But what if there hadn't been a John? Would you still be 5st heavier?

Will John like you if you get bigger again?

You do realise you should lose weight for yourself rather than John?

Edited

no John wouldn’t fancy me if I was heavier he goes for slim pretty girls !

Op read that over a few times.

So John only asked you out once you were thinner

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. No one should be forced to be attracted to fat people. Most people aren't.

Bloody hell, it’s impressive either way IMO

So a reduction in calorie intake. Plus exercise. And a hobby.

Groundbreaking!

😆

Have to say also, losing weight for a man is not something I would be prepared to do. As some posters have said, what happens when the OP regains some weight? (And she will.)

I was 3 stone overweight when I met my now DH (so about 12 stone) and he still fancied me/wanted to be with me. He likes me slimmer, and he likes me chubby, and he likes me somewhere in between. I would hate to have a man who was only attracted to me when I was a 'skinny minny!'

I have known loads of men in the past who started dating a woman when she was 7 and a half to 8 and a half stone, and a size 8, and she was not allowed to put any weight on. 'I fell for you when you were thin, I'm not touching you if you're fat.' In fact some men won't be seen with their woman if she gets fat, and some even dump them.

EngineeringSocially · 03/11/2025 17:49

Ugh at the mean comments. She can only do it because she is 30, is she underweight, accusing her of bragging, she only did it for a man etc. It’s so unpleasant.

True though.

True though.

In your opinion.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 03/11/2025 17:50

Congratulations! But - more importantly - how do you plan to manage your weight going forward and not yo yo back...? For many, losing weight is the easy bit - and 1,300 cals per day and references to "sticking to a plan" rather than making long-term changes to lifestyle suggest this could potentially be a risk going forward.

PS: I can still fit into a bridesmaid's dress I wore at 16 (size 6 - 8), and I'm 44. Three decades of iron will - but not necessarily a healthy relationship with food off the back of it. #AMA if you want the psychologically unhealthy route to slimness.

I actually dropped dead but the upside is I'm the skinniest here in heaven.

Eating disorders are heart-breaking things and the idea of dieting hard just to turn the head of a man you know would otherwise not bother with you is disturbing in the extreme.

Littlejellyuk · 03/11/2025 17:51

Hiya OP!
Congrats on your weight loss! 👏
I've piled weight on this year due to my emotional eating (sadly lost my mum at the start of summer, after a long illness). 💔
Can I ask what your typical day of eating looks like? I'm also a small 5 footer. 🤔
Thanks 😊

you cannot say that with such conviction. Nasty.

firstofallimadelight · 03/11/2025 17:52

Did you do any maintenance days? If your body gets use to 1300 that could become your normal .

Brbreeze · 03/11/2025 17:53

Good for you! Well done, that’s a serious accomplishment. And whatever motivation works for you!

I hope you don’t mind a suggestion, but now you are in such a great position from cutting calories and doing cardio, I would suggest looking into strength training and reducing ultra processed foods in order to maximise health benefits. Have a listen to Dr Stacy Sims on a podcast or YouTube - she specialises in women’s health & exercise and has great info on how strength training improves your long term health.

DiscoBob · 03/11/2025 17:45

I'd never lose weight for a man.

She didn’t lose weight for him. She used the idea of dating him as motivation to do something she already wanted to do - lose weight.

Also most people are initially attracted to each other based on physical appearance, it’s natural.

Well done OP 👏🏽

DobryWieczor · 03/11/2025 17:57

My “John” got me pregnant so I’ve put on a stone 😁

Happy to share tips but I think most people can work out how it happened!

AngelinaFibres · 03/11/2025 17:58

TheaBrandt1 · 03/11/2025 17:06

That works brilliantly and for me I lost 2 stone - then you do the same at 50 in perimenopause and …..nothing bloody happens !! So make the most of it!

Edited

I'm 60. The weight had crept up and up until I was 10 stone 2 lb at 5'4". I lost a stone over 2 months by being in a calorie deficit and lifting weights/ strength training . The strength training 4x per week was crucial. My body has changed shape hugely. Strong core, no backaches, flat stomach. Ate 1400 calories a day. Now at maintenance level on 1700 a day. Weight has stayed steady at goal weight for the last 2 weeks .Still doing the strength training 4x per week. Lots of videos on you tube . Bought weights for women from Amazon. Now using husband's weights because mine are too light now .

I think she is trying to point out the absurdity of some of the attitudes.

Getrealbiarch · 03/11/2025 18:00

I think this is a bit sad. I've lost over 7 stone but I've done it for health and for me. Well done though and all that.

Lou7171 · 03/11/2025 18:00

I don't know any grown woman with a weight this low. I weighed 7 and a half stone at 14 yrs old and had an eating disorder. Sounds mad to be this weight at 30!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 03/11/2025 18:01

Well done OP, I think it’s well done anyway. Diet and exercise is the better way of loosing weight, but sticking to 1300 calories of “convenience” foods doesn’t seem super healthy or like you would be fuelling your body correctly for the exercise you’re doing.

I’m 5ft 3 and went from almost 11 stone to 8 stone with diet and exercise but I did it over a period of more than 18 months and have now kept it off as running has become a way of life for me. I eat lots because my body needs fuel. 5 stone in 9 months seems like a lot and almost like something that would be hard to keep up.

are you still dieting and only eating 1300 calories or have you upped your intake now that you’ve reached your goal weight?

dieting for a man’s attention wouldn’t be something that I would do, I did it for myself as I wasn’t happy with how I looked and I really wanted to be super fit, run a marathon etc. so my goals and motivation were very different to yours. Thin is nice, but not if it comes at the price of your health and fitness so I would prioritise that now that you’re lighter.

ItcanbeDone · 03/11/2025 18:02

Slim pretty girls eh. Thank god for my husband who sees past my big bum and loves me for my sarcasm, dappiness and the ability to make him laugh so hard he has to wipe.
Lol Im a size 20, had 6 kids ranging from 27 down to 2 and let me tell you after growing up in the 90s it took me a lot to learn that you can have sexy curves, big boobs, comfy bum, not be thin and STILL be pretty...I love my body, lumps n all and just wanted to add that some men can see past the skin bit! 🙂
I know if I got back down to a sz 12 the love between us wouldn't change an iota but he has said he'd really miss my lovely bum lol. Whatever floats your boat though x be boring if we were all the same!

IncessantNameChanger · 03/11/2025 18:02

Just reading your opening post makes me want to gnaw my own arm off! I'm on 1300 calories a day and lost a pound a week! FML
