To share tips on how I went from 12 and a half stone - to 7 and a half stone in 9 months?

I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

Dear god I hope you're trolling.

Unfortunately not. I recognise the username and they are well known for coming on to any threads about weight/food and bragging about being anorexic

I don't know any grown woman with a weight this low. I weighed 7 and a half stone at 14 yrs old and had an eating disorder. Sounds mad to be this weight at 30!

I weighed this until over 50. It has only been the last couple of years my weight has crept up to 9 and a bit stone. This is the heaviest I have ever been, including at 9 months pregnant.

Losing weight for a work crush?! Confused I have heard it all now.

Whatever motivation works..

Tho 12 and a half stone isn't far off goal weight for me 😁 which possibly means I need a John 😳

Ok, but it's just not achievable for most women

aCatCalledFawkes · 03/11/2025 19:18

There isn't many tips from the OP in weight loss on this thread aside from 1300 calories a day and buy convenience food. I would feel deprived if I ate that. I lost a lot of weight on Slimming world, the only thing I really struggled with with was recovery from impact exercise classes - ie. what to eat when you have worked hard and are starving, I think I would struggle with this diet to for the same reason

And MNHQ are okay with that? How disappointing.

I’m 5ft 1 - so actually not technically underweight!

but I’ve got no curves I admit I’m stick like!

I think my IDEAL weight when I look very slim but with curves is 7 stone 10 pounds

Imo anything under 8 st is very low even at just over 5ft - to be curvy under 8 st I’d be surprised

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 03/11/2025 19:23

well done OP. However .. be prepared. losing weight is the easy part if you are motivated.. but if you read ALL of the peer reviewed studies from the likes of the BMJ, NEJM , UCL centre for obesity etc etc.. you will know that the chances of maintaining that loss are indescribably small.. of 12k women only 1 in 674 achieved weight loss from Obesity to Healthy.. and of those ‘1’s’ 85% put it all back on and more within 5 years.

That’s why WLI are such a game changer .. because obesity is almost always related to insulin resistance.. and that’s the only way to control it . I have lost 7 stone . However I will have to remain on these drugs for life to combat regain. But that is no different from people who have to take thyroxine for thyroid conditions.. and the benefits to my health outweigh any other concerns.

Thanks OP! Good tips. Agree with you about finding a “John”. I always try to get leaner/look better/more polished when I fancy the pants of someone!

GlomOfNit · 03/11/2025 19:30

Massively impressed, OP! I'm also 5'1" and I think I am just touching 11 stone now Sad and I bloody well wish I weren't. Having done that calculation we're all meant to do now where you work out your TDI and then calculate how much you need to eat (how LITTLE you need to eat!) in order to actually lose weight, mine came out at something like 950 cal a day. And that's not sustainable for me, not every day. Deeply envious that you're doing it on 1300! But then you sound really active and healthy, well done. Smile And young too, it's a different story when you're in your 50's!

Have you moved to maintenance calories now?
You've lost a lot in a small space of time. Well done on the dedication but please be careful of eating disorders.

Yes

Right so calorie deficit and exercise.

Kind of the established method for weight loss.

@NadineQueue what does an average food day looks like?

I'm losing a bit of weight in a very slow and casual way. But I know from experience that 1500 cal is hard. I only managed 1300 when I had an injury and was sat around all day and didn't feel like eating.

Believe it or not - I sometimes have beef sandwiches for breakfast !! But already packeted so I can see how many calories are in the exactly !

Aksj sandwiches for lunch and as I’m home late usually very little in the evening.

i know it’s not healthy but while dieting i drank an awful lot of Diet Coke

Good luck with it !

initially when I started I was 14 stone - actuslly nearer 15 - before I’d heard of John - I was on

1800 cals day - then down to
1600 then down to
1330 cals a day !

One question I have, can you maintain this going forward?

Im not knocking your achievement , but you have said its been tough and tears have been shed

Ive lost 2 stone, post menopause, probably over the length of time you have lost so much, but I've not shed tears, dont think Im on a diet, just changed my eating habits and so far maintained for 2 years

I dont want any more yo yo dieting, weighing and logging foods. Life really is too short I can keep the logging going for a month perhaps, then I get bored/busy/CBA so now I dont bother. And not doing that, just making sure Im getting as much veg and protein and fibre( without measuring and weighing ) into me as possible is working

JasmineTea11 · 03/11/2025 17:36

Good for you OP, that takes serious dedication and commitment. And the fact you don't have to reply on expensive weight loss drugs is a major bonus. Good luck with John!

Thank you very much ! 😊

Are you aware how unlikeable you come across? Genuinely wondering…
(not jealous as I’m also a ‘slim pretty girl’ but just wonder if you have any self-awareness?)

I don’t think she does

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 03/11/2025 19:45

No, John wouldn’t fancy me if I was heavier he goes for slim pretty girls !
God, how depressing. I mean you do you but thank fuck this is not the type of man I hanker after 🥳 Like fuck I'd even attempt 1300 calories a day.

DustyMaiden · 03/11/2025 19:48

I’ve eaten 1209 calories a day for a year do 5000 step aerobics every day. I’ve lost 4lbs

I don’t think she comes across unlikeable at all! And I’m probably twice both her age and her weight! She sounds really excited at her weight loss and the confidence she has got from it ( and the new man!)
OP - you’ve done really well but please be careful now. Your weight is very low and eating a healthy balanced diet is more important than being a skinny minny . I’ve seen how easy it is to slip into disordered eating.

AngelsandAliens · 03/11/2025 17:37

well done op I’m dying to lose weight and I want to do so without jabs ! (Nothing against anyone that does but I just can’t risk any side affects )

any chance you could give some meal ideas or what you have been eating ? And snacks ? Please - thank you

Yes!! So when I was 12 and a half stone I was on a diet of 1330 a day as well as some kind of aerobic exercise every day of at least 30 mins a day - not walking - jogging on treadmill , swimming or aerobics.

I admit I did eat a lot of processed food ready made sandwiches etc as long as the the calories were printed on the packet so I knew exactly what I was having

for snacks I’d often have crisps
