I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

Have you shagged John, then?

😂😂brilliant!

Well done OP, you've done yourself a huge favour.
Did you count macros or just calories? It would be good to see what meals you had

I just count calories and I do - rightly or wrongly - eat a lot of convenience foods where calories are worked out for you

IsItWickedNotToCare · 03/11/2025 17:06

Well done I'm jealous 😊

TheaBrandt1 · 03/11/2025 17:06

That works brilliantly and for me I lost 2 stone - then you do the same at 50 in perimenopause and …..nothing bloody happens !! So make the most of it!

MzHz · 03/11/2025 17:07

Bless you @NadineQueue you’re 30.

come back after you hit perimenopause and see how “just eating less and moving more” ISNT working at all anymore.

But well done on what is a serious weight loss.

this is the time that you need to make the good habits stick, cos that will serve you for a long time. Take this from someone who’s 25 years older and insulin resistant

UPFs were invented when I was about your age, they’re driving the obesity epidemic so use the loss you’ve achieved now to sow the seeds to a sustainable and healthy future

Good luck with everything ☺️

Get off the convenience foods now! The upfs will ruin you

EarringsandLipstick · 03/11/2025 17:08

@NadineQueue I'm happy for you if you lost weight that you wanted to lose, and you feel good.

I'm much less happy with the approach you are espousing and your motivation. Losing weight to appeal to a man is a poor idea - John wouldn't like you if you weren't slim? But you might not always be slim - if you gained weight, and John left you, how would you feel then? It sounds like that would be shattering to your self-esteem.

Also, 1300 calories is simply not sustainable and not healthy. Yes, many on MN try to say that it is - it is not. Getting them from convenience foods (not exactly sure what this means) is also a poor health choice. You may be slim, but you may be lacking in essential nutrition and most likely having too much salt / sugar.

I'm honestly not trying to rain on your parade but your advice is worrying.

Crunchymum · 03/11/2025 17:09

no John wouldn’t fancy me if I was heavier he goes for slim pretty girls !

So John is as shallow as a puddle then? Wouldn't have given you a second glance at your original weight?

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2025 17:11

So John only asked you out once you were thinner

BatchCookBabe · 03/11/2025 17:11

Ta anyway @NadineQueue but I'll pass. I'm only an inch taller than you, and no WAY would I want to be 7 and a half stone. I look my best at between 9 stone, and 9 and a half stone. I have been under 8 stone in the past, and looked gaunt and ill. People were constantly asking me if I was OK.

You seem proud of being skinny, with your 'skinny minny' comment. Your weight loss doesn't sound healthy, (5 stone in 9 months.) If it was 5 stone in 9 months and you had gone from 22 stone to 17 stone, that may have been okay-ish, but 12 and a half stone isn't very heavy. It's heavy for 5 ft 1 of course, but not very heavy. So losing 5 stone in 9 months when you only started at 12 and a half stone, is too fast a weight loss. And your weight sounds too low now.

There is no equal opportunities in attraction. He is allowed to fancy whoever he wants when single.

MoonBugs · 03/11/2025 17:11

Are you aware how unlikeable you come across? Genuinely wondering…
(not jealous as I’m also a ‘slim pretty girl’ but just wonder if you have any self-awareness?)

She doesn't come across as unlikable, don't be silly. I weigh way more than her and I'm happy for her.

Squirrelsnut · 03/11/2025 17:13

This can't be real, surely.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/11/2025 17:15

Well done, @NadineQueue! I am in a similar boat in that I’ve lost nearly 3 stone since May but I have about 1.5 stone left to lose. It’s been hard going and exhausting at times but I feel so much better about myself.

I haven’t even really moved much more than before (I’ve got 3 kids so adding in a workout isn’t feasible) but reduced my calories and cut our carbs like bread, pasta and rice.

I married my “John” 7 years ago and we both let ourselves go in favour of eating junk food. My motivation is to look better for myself and my DH. I also want to model healthier eating to my DC. Having gestational diabetes in my third pregnancy was a bit of a kick up the bum too and becoming insulin dependent sucked.

5128gap · 03/11/2025 17:16

I hope John found out your ideal male body type and put in equal effort to achieve it to earn you. Otherwise you've got a serious power imbalance right there. You've been warned.

There are different body types though. I am a small frame(very small wrists and ankles) ant at 5ft 3 inches my perfect weight is just over 8 stone - 8st 3lbs is my ideal. At near 9 stone I look too 'roundy'.I have never been 9 and a half stone but I would absolutely look podgy at that weight!

Ok very interesting question.

i wanted to lose weight this year before i even knew John existed. I lost a stone before I met him so was originally actually 13.5 stone - closer to 14 stone!

however after starting a new place of work I developed a crush on him and lost weight quicker ! No dilly dallying!

So to answer your question I post weight before John but was able to do it much quicker when John came on the scene!

no John wouldn’t fancy me if I was heavier he goes for slim pretty girls !

Well, he sounds like a catch.

If someone had told me I had to kiss some of the men frogs I met before marrying I would have cried and stayed single.

So, if things get super serious and you gain some, or you have his children and gain ALOT.... would you not always feel insecure? Would you not worry all the time that he would leave you for a 'slimmer, prettier' woman? I couldn't live like that.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 03/11/2025 17:21

Well done OP.

I lost 3 stone in a similar way, and was perimenopausal when I did it.

It was hard work! I applaud you for sticking with it.

How do you eat now?

Hmmm it’s possible but maybe we’d have a strong relationship by then IF this were to happen
