The racism on the Huntingdon train threads is appaling

Just as the title says. The blatant racism and jumping to conclusions on the threads has been terrible. Mumsnet used to be a more informed intelligent place.

You’ll say it’s racist. You cannot say it’s untrue.

Its very much untrue.

As shown in the Train attack, not terrorism, not a gang attack, most likely MH.

& the guy who saves many, at huge risk to himself, is an Algerian and a Muslim.

I suggest you deal with your own issues rather than have ago at the UK.

RingoJuice · 04/11/2025 15:01

The actual facts are not with you. We already know the ethnic breakdown of violence in many countries.

Someone upthread linked murder by knife statistics in London, eerily close to the American stat where 13% of the population commits 55% of the murders.

Frankly, if someone is stabbing you and intends to kill you, does it matter if it’s because they have a mental illness or just a violent misogynist? It matters not to me, what matters is the personal safety of myself and my family.

You’ll say it’s racist. You cannot say it’s untrue.

What I can say is that in relation to the Huntingdon stabbings, what we had was:

  • Immediate assumptions that the perpetrator(s) must be foreign or asylum seekers. No evidence to back that up, no restraint in order to let the police do their job. That is racist.
  • Then when it became clear that the perpetrator was British born, endless suggestions that he could not be really British , because he was black and his family might not have been here since 1066. Again, speculation with nothing to back it up, stirring division before the police could do their job. That is racist.

The wider link between ethnicity, poverty and crime is indeed complex. It is not nonexistent. But that is not what these threads have been about.

It is indisputable that many posters on the threads about the Huntingdon stabbings specifically have been deeply racist.

If you think seeing these points of view as legitimate then I have nothing more to say to you. Thank you for being so open about what you are.

A lot of the comments would not have been made if the police gave descriptions out immediately they had the details

Eyewitnesses shared their experience online, not sure the cops are entirely to blame for that?

It indeed was another violent crime carried out by the usual suspects. The usual suspects being men. Idiotic talk of colour, immigration status, nationality, religion is all to avoid tackling and talking about the real issue of male violence. That is the consistent common denominator.

Sadly schizophrenia and mania are more common amongst Afro Caribbean men - the exact reason for that is an ongoing question in psychiatric services.

IWFH · 04/11/2025 15:54

If it’s the suggestion that he’s not really British though he was British born, I mean, it’s a legitimate point of view.

Sorry - I will never accept that that is a legitimate point of view at all.

Isn't that more to do with lack of treatments, slow to come forward with MH conditions, authorities more likely to section?

Add in poverty and all that brings, such as depression and anxiety

Its not a new theory at all.

Nobody says you personally have to believe that. But others will think differently to you and that is their right

There is no point having any type of rational, intelligent discussions with racists.
They are either:
1 Ignorant - you can’t argue with stupid or
2 They genuinely, deeply believe they are the superior race and everyone that has a different skin colour is truly beneath them - they will never believe we are all equal so again no point in discussing or changing their minds.

OK - Please explain how that view could be considered legitimate?

What do you think makes a British born, British Citizen not British, or 'less British' than you?

Nobody here has said that. We do often speak of cultures being inferior, because that’s the truth of it. Some are.

Personally I don’t think Western culture is superior to, for instance, East Asian culture, having lived in several different ones for many years, most of my adult life actually. But again, it’s just my perspective. I don’t expect everyone to have the same opinion.

You are literally importing people with a higher tendency towards violence. Look at the per capita murder rate of the various Caribbean islands, it’s actually horrific. You think these tendencies just stop when crossing borders?

You are learning that it doesn’t.

Oh wow .
you really said that.

It’s because you’re implying it’s inherently a racial thing and doesn’t look at the other factors involved.

You can condemn the attack and how awful the racism afterwards has been.

Mistyglades · 04/11/2025 16:30

Oh I think your priorities are perfectly clear. This thread was predictable.

Igotjelly · 04/11/2025 16:33

Where are all the racists now that the hero train worker has been named? A man of Middle Eastern or south Asian heritage (Samir) 👏 👏
