How many loads of washing do you generate a week?

Inspired by the tumble drying thread, I’m curious.

im not talking about as a family, or your kids who do seven sports. Just you, as one person.

I generate three - two of clothes and one of bedding. Just curious how much other people are washing their stuff as apparently this is a huge amount to do in a week!

Well, we have three people in the house and average about two to three loads a week. So I suppose 1. We have a 9kg machine and only run full loads.

ItIsNotTheDog · 01/11/2025 22:40

1 load per week for 2 people

2 a week for 3 people.

TheZanyZebra · 01/11/2025 22:41

Just me as a person, probably 4 on an average week.

Two most weeks - one clothes and one bedding.

An extra one when I’ve accumulated enough dirty towels to make their own load, possibly once a month or so.

TheendofmrY · 01/11/2025 22:43

I do 4-5 a week for a family of 4. I’d imagine 1-2 if just me.

What about towels?

LifeOfAShowgirl13 · 01/11/2025 22:43

Difficult to say as we wash everyone’s things together but I would hazard a guess that I would do 3 loads a week if single, not full loads but wanting to separate colours. As a family of 4, we do about 14 loads a week.

1 load per day and several at the weekend. 2 adults, one young adult, one teen.
Those people who only do 2-3 per week how do you manage towels, underwear socks, school uniform plus all the ay to day clothes for multiple people?

I feel I'm missing something and would love to wash, dry and iron clothes less.

FancyCatSlave · 01/11/2025 22:43

1 clothes and 1 towels, then alternate weeks a 3rd for bedding.

The household of 3 plus pets generates about 8-9 a week though. Depending on when bedding washed. DD has a complete set of uniform a day as she’s little and messy (which is fine, she is having fun). And there’s a lot of throws and cat blankets to do.

What about towels?

They’re a family thing, we all just use them and then as they get a bit grim we shove them in with a load of washing. But they just go in with whoever’s put a wash on. So tomorrow I’ll do a load that’s half clothes from the bathroom (mainly mine) and then half towels.

That is insane. How many hours a week do you spend sorting, washing, folding and putting away laundry?!!

Oh I don’t iron anything! If they’re creased I just hang them up after drying in the bathroom and let the steam get rid of the creased

3 a week for 2 people so 1.5 loads each. Thats clothes, bedding and towels/shower mat

Blackalice · 01/11/2025 22:49

I do about 9 or 10 a week for a family of 5 plus several quick washes of washable puppy pads due to having a rescue cat with issues. I do 5 gym classes a week so I guess maybe 3 if just me, 4 on a bed change week.
