This horrific story just doesn't make the news. The ongoing slaughter of innocents appears to be largely ignored.

If you are unaware its Sudan and 2000 people slaughtered a few days ago.

No poll. Just posting to raise awareness of this tragedy.

I wonder if there's an element of compassion fatigue for this? I'm 50 and have been aware there are problems in Sudan since I was a child. Nothing seems to have improved in that time. Have we chalked it up to 'you can't win them all' and given up on the basis that it's a waste of time and therefore should direct our energies somewhere that we feel there's more chance we might be able to do something?

Before anyone comes for me I'm not saying this is right or acceptable, I'm just wondering about the reasons.

I think this is correct.

People talk about a march - a march to do what? It will not affect anyone involved. The people fighting don't care what anyone in the west thinks.

What is any nation or the UN really going to do? Send aid - maybe but we know it will be misused. Lock up everyone? Send in an army? No one can sustain that.

I’m getting quite annoyed now. Why are people still talking about lack of coverage in media? As I’ve pointed out it is covered in a wide variety of today’s newspapers and news sites (TELEGRAPH, BBC,SKY NEWS, GUARDIAN, INDEPENDENT).

STOP SAYING IT HASNT BEEN IN MEDIA WHEN IT HAS!

Because you have to scroll down for it. Given the numbers of people dead you’d expect it to be headline news.

stop being disingenuous.

But this just isn't true? Why is this being repeated constantly? The group I am in in real life have been raising funds and awareness for Palestine and Sudan for months. It's not our fault that we can't reach everyone and some people don't tune into activism. There is only so much that people with families, jobs and lives can do, we can't make people choose to listen, surely if there is responsibility on us to talk about every crisis everywhere then there is a responsibility on people to meet us in the middle and take time to actually listen to what we are saying rather than make boring assumptions based on your own prejudices.

Raising awareness for Palestine AND Sudan? Do you or any of your fellow activists go on protests chanting ‘Free Free Sudan’? Or free free the women from Afghanistan? No, thought not. It’s not boring or making assumptions to say that most pally wally activists hate Jews. THEY are the ones making lazy assumptions and it’s THEM who are prejudice.

How U.A.E. Arms Bolstered a Sudanese Militia Accused of Genocide
Gulf Arab state has funneled weapons, including Chinese-made drones, to rebel forces

Where do you think the Gulf states are getting the arms from? The UK and UK. We are absolutely complicit in this.

@CrossChecking can you tell us more about the group you are in and ways to get involved? I have struggled to find web pages for getting involved because a lot seems to be organised on X or Facebook and I'm not on either so it limits what I can see.
Keen for suggestions of anything at all that can be done to bring this further up the agenda.

You’re correct.
The videos I’ve seen are horrific and they are of Sudanese from different religions. I see some people are trying to make it a Muslim V Christian thing but they need to use a different conflict. This ain’t the one.

Ok Christians are being killed.
What is the religion of the people killing.

No actually Sudan is majority Muslim country. Both sides are Muslim and mainly Muslims are being killed. Only around 5% of Sudan is Christian.

Ok and you couldn’t get much more vulnerable than being in a hospital.
Why why are they being killed.Asking as you appear to be more in knowledge of this situation than I.

OverDram · 31/10/2025 16:04

Now you know mostly Muslims are being killed you can go back to not caring.

It’s the UAE backed RSF rebels against the recognised national army SAF. The rebels want to be in power and they are funded by the UAE who will benefit hugely if they take power with gold (Sudan are the third largest gold producer), trade deals and access to the Red Sea with ports that will strengthen their influence from Persia to East Africa. It’s all about money with no care for the innocent people who suffer. There are some pro Palestinian accounts that have started fundraising for Sudan but it is much much harder to get the funds in than it was to Gaza.

beAsensible1 · 31/10/2025 16:31

this is horrific, we need to pressure the government to stop dealing with UAE who are arming the rsf

WestwardHo1 · 31/10/2025 16:11

Because Israel aren't responsible.

I think people should stop this nonsense. If you are not interested in what’s happening in Sudan, there is no obligation to post. Using a thread about horrific murders inspired by ethnic/religious conflict to try to stop people talking about what is happening to the Palestinians is so offensive. And the idea that the media and public are never interested in international news unless Israel are involved, well honestly, it’s ridiculous.

No. Eastasia is at war with Oceania.

That's what our leaders keep telling us. They wouldn't lie, and will always keep us safe.

We shouldn't question them. If they wanted us to know about Sudan, they would have told us.

Not sure who your "leaders" are, but the UK government have hardly been hiding this from the public - most recently this from the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office two days ago.

I presume the British taxpayer is still acting as unwitting insurance underwriter for British arms sales everywhere. They certainly were in the mid 2000s when I asked an MP about it.

Murderers are going to find weapons regardless of who produces them…..there is such a thing as a right to defend. In this case you have no idea at all what weapons have been used. What a ridiculous post.

Really. It has been suggested several times upthread that British arms were implicated in these massacres, and pp’s have also suggested that arms should be restricted. We are not talking about weapons for self defence here, but weapons produced specifically to enable massacres.

There is a clear difference in killing power between a club picked up from the wayside and a modern British machine gun.

You’re not only being ridiculous, you’ve given me cause to wonder if you’re another in the pay of those who want the current corruption in Britain to continue no matter what the human cost.
