This horrific story just doesn't make the news. The ongoing slaughter of innocents appears to be largely ignored.

If you are unaware its Sudan and 2000 people slaughtered a few days ago.

No poll. Just posting to raise awareness of this tragedy.

My colleague is Sudanese and I probably hear a bit more than most but I honestly don't understand it. It's complex and historical and difficult to just explain to someone like me. I know she gets very upset about it so I guess I don't bring it up too often.

I think it's fairly obvious why news coverage differs, we are implicated in middle eastern conflicts to some extent and our governments have some sway, not much. People in Europe are powerless when it comes to Sudan. If everyone of us protested today I don't know if it would make any difference or even be noted. Although I am open to being educated on this...

I heard someone 28 October on Channel 4 News who is knowledgeable about this - UN’s former head for Sudan, Professor Mukesh Kapila - say that the best that can be hoped for at the moment is ‘massacre
management’ and only the USA will be able to do anything:
https://www.channel4.com/news/sudan-massacre-actively-underway-says-former-un-sudan-chief
He comes on at about 0:50 minutes in.

Sudan: ‘Massacre actively underway’ says former UN Sudan chief

Evidence of mass killings of civilians is mounting in Sudan.

Also, what can we do about Sudan?

So because we can't change anything we ignore?

I think it's important to at least have the conversation, raise awareness & discuss why some wars/tragedies are somewhat ignored.

dressinggowns · 30/10/2025 15:03

We also equally can and should, lobby our government about selling arms to the UAE who are funding the militias massacring civilians and raping women and children in Sudan.

yep

When everyone pays attention and cares, things have some hope of changing.

yes

It’s so fucking horrific.
Sometimes you just wish an asteroid would hit the earth and finish everything off to stop all suffering everywhere.

Ponoka7 · 30/10/2025 15:09

Those of us who mentioned Sudan or asked why posters weren't taking in refugees from Sudan, as they were people from the Ukraine, were shouted down. Many of the 'boat people ' come from the Sudan and face the worse racism, because they are very dark skinned. Unfortunately I don't think this conflict is easily solved with large scale massacre, which we have no right to do.

One war is so horrific that would wish an asteroid would wipe out all life in earth including bacteria?!

I hope that's just hyperbole as it's a dreadful thing to say.

When you feel so desperate and unable to do anything about it your mind does go to such things.

How have I derailed by asking why you are derailing.
Its quite clear what your agenda is.

Where did I derail? I said keep to the thread, which is about Sudan. You are clearly on a wind up.

MonetsLilac · 30/10/2025 15:14

The UAE should be an international pariah nation, but it's not.
It's so wealthy it could actually prevent suffering, not add to it.

Who do you think is supplying arms? It’s the US and UK.

For the people talking about where are the pro Palestine supporters. Pretty much every pro Palestinian social media account is posting and trying to gain support and help for Sudan. Muslim scholars are also trying to raise awareness and it’s being heavily reported with boycotts being encouraged to take place. I’ve found it largely to be ignored by mainstream media. Most of us who support Gaza are here for humanity and as a Muslim I will condemn whoever the oppressors and perpetrators are whether that’s the Israelis or certain so called Muslims.

Exactly. wtf have all these other people been. The only people I see talking about Sudan and who have been talking for months now are the Pro Palestinians. I haven’t seen a free Sudan banner at the pro Israel marches. But I’ve seen loads at the pro Palestinians. I’ve also not seen any pro Israeli accounts post about Sudan without having to mention Gaza or the bull shit “ no Jews, no news” propaganda. Do they really care or are they using Sudans suffering to further their cause.

I was reading about this yesterday. It's truly horrific and the 'world' is so silent about it.

I saw a woman with two children pleading for her life and my heart broke.

Thanks for raising awareness.

No Jews no news. Blacks killing blacks doesn't register with the left, this has been going on for years on and off.

The BBC showed it last night for the first time from what I can see, doesn't fit their anti Jewish agenda though.

It's black PEOPLE. Not blacks. Don't be so offensive.

Just to add, I’d be grateful if anyone more knowledgeable than me could explain why lack of media coverage is so.

One element is the fact that it would shine a light upon the anti Blackness inherent in Arab culture.
It is the unambiguously Black in Sudan who have been suffering for decades.
The Sudanese worldwide diaspora made from the 1990s, overwhelmingly looks one way and the oppressors, another.
I do not rate George Clooney as an actor, but he is the only top celebrity who has consistently brought light to what is and has been happening in Sudan.
Australia and Sweden have large generational Sudanese communities due to Sudanese fleeing there over the decades. As do Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The UK has Sudanese refugees, although the communities are far less concentrated than in Sweden and Australia.
The modelling industry has a large concentration of Dinka Sudanese models, going back to the UK's Alek Wek whose fame goes back to the 90s.
Not a one of them does not come from a refugee background. Not one.
This has been going on for decades with little rancour from the Interminable Activist Class, the Activist Celebrity Class, the Legacy Media ( the Guardian for example);Activist Class.
Not am I confronted with UN campaigns on television or YouTube asking for donations pertaining to Sudan, when even sidelined Yemen gets Ewan McGregor asking on her specific behalf.
I'm not saying that Arab Muslim anti unambiguous Blackness is the only reason why the Sudanese genocide has been minimised.

But it is one of the reasons. It provides a conflict of interests to the average " only Whitey hates Blackness" narrative along with the " Arabs are not instigators" one ( a reason why Yemen is sidelined).

This is what happens when the criteria for victimhood is based on subjectivity and perpetuity of any subjectively designated status and not actual violation.

The BBC have been reporting on it for awhile. You can't seriously think just because you saw it for the first time, it means that it was the first time the BBC reported it.

It was also brought to my attention at first, from many pages I follow that are vocal about what is happening in Palestine. I don't see anyone on the right really talking about it, unless it's used to score points - how some are doing on this thread.

The UAE is supplied arms by the US and UK

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2025/oct/28/uk-military-equipment-rapid-support-forces-rsf-militia-accused-genocide-found-sudan-united-nations

British military equipment has been found on battlefields in Sudan, used by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group accused of genocide, according to documents seen by the UN security council.

UK-manufactured small-arms target systems and British-made engines for armoured personnel carriers have been recovered from combat sites in a conflict that has now caused the world’s biggest humanitarian catastrophe.
The findings have again prompted scrutiny over Britain’s export of arms to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has been repeatedly accused of supplying weapons to the paramilitary RSF in Sudan.

They also raise questions for the UK government and its potential role in fuelling the conflict.

Thank you, but I did just mean in terms of the moral responsibility of the UAE in this conflict.

Give it a rest.
I won’t be replying to your next reply to me on this.
So go ahead and have the last word.Im not interested in your opinion.
