This horrific story just doesn't make the news. The ongoing slaughter of innocents appears to be largely ignored.

If you are unaware its Sudan and 2000 people slaughtered a few days ago.

No poll. Just posting to raise awareness of this tragedy.

Every Free Gaza protest has also had Free Sudan Free Congo banners. People have been talking about this for a long time.

Why weren’t you at any of the protests?

Ihatetomatoes · 30/10/2025 18:41

Thank you for sharing. Perhaps its fair to say some people were aware, lots might not be (as per comments) and usually not headline news. It is definitely on the news more today. The latest slaughter being absolutely disgusting. Is there any problem with sharing to more people, raising more awareness? The humanitarian crisis is greater than many might realise.

Why weren’t you at any of the protests?

Who's that addressed to?

I don't know where those protests were. London? I live far away. Why are you so angry at this thread? Surely its better to have even more people aware and talking about Sudans dreadful massacre?

Added.... 2023 2024 and 6 months ago, protests for Sudan, I don't recall it making main news.

The issue on this thread and for some reason any thread about Sudan is the insinuation that people who protested for Palestine have gone quiet and disappeared when it comes to Sudan.

The truth is that they were the ones that were protesting for Sudan as well the entire time. Sudan is being used by people who don’t give a shit. They were unaware of any protests or any news when it has been reported for a long time.

Why now do they care?

Ablushingcrow · 30/10/2025 19:07

The same people that bang on about genecide in the streets couldnt give a stuff about this because they can't blame Jews.

Puts me in mind of the Israeli spoof of Greta thumberg on the boat, it's hilarious but so very spot on.

CareerChange24 · 30/10/2025 19:25

Thank you for trying to raise awareness. It’s a shame people can’t see that we are just lied to on a daily basis by the media about our involvement and using distraction tactics with other less important news stories.

One war is so horrific that would wish an asteroid would wipe out all life in earth including bacteria?!

I hope that's just hyperbole as it's a dreadful thing to say.

I'm completely agree with you regarding wishing an asteroid would destroy earth.

You're an extreme empath. Even if I won the lottery, I couldn't be happy, because I know at this very moment people and innocent animals are going through unimaginable suffering. I get you.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/10/2025 19:34

On channel 4 now there is a man in Sudan saying this is all a media campaign!

Matt Frei asked how much backing they are getting from the UAE. The man says that is all a lie, they are self-backed.

MF says there is more information on Channel 4 Substack.

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 30/10/2025 19:37

I believe there was also a big massacre of Christians in Mozambique I think which hasn't made the news.

EmmaWotsit · 30/10/2025 19:39

Seriously, OP, what are you hoping to achieve by signing a petition or sending a letter? Try organising a March in your hometown and you'll be lucky to get a man and his dog turn up.

People care about what's happening in their area - it's human nature. Not being able to see a GP, their mum being in agony whilst waiting for a hip replacement, affording care for their gran with dementia or affording food for their kids.

I live under a stone but I've been aware of what's happening in Sudan for ages so you've no excuse. George Clooney has been banging on about Darfur for about 15 years, bless him. What I'm worried about is job prospects for DD when she graduates, my DH being made redundant, funding my old age, my dog being traumatised by bastard fireworks.

Evil reigns in large areas of the world and there is nothing Emma from Mumsnet can do about it.

The Arab Islam forces have been working at removing African Christians from Sudan for years. It is a long held ambition of Islam. It is financed by Islamic Gulf States as was the Taliban.
There has been a 500 day siege on that last city, Unlimited food supplies for thousands of troops, weapons and ammunition and fuel for vehicles for the attackers. All from Saudi and it's neighbours. They regard these events as a triumph for Islam.
BBC Radio 4 World at One yesterday had a fairly long report about it. The filming of the murders by the terrorists and putting them on the Internet shows how proud they are of there achievements.

For some reason the murder of Christians by Muslims never seems to get reported. For example the Coptic Christians in Egypt are often targeted.

Have you got anything useful to add or just constant criticism? Don't you want us 'slow to notice things' people to notice. I mean all you do is moan, it's really not helpful.

I think its best to ignore people who just look for the worst possible in others 🙄

Maybe, just possibly, seeing the video of the murderers running through the hospital slaughtering people was quite upsetting but hey ho you will believe what you want, no matter what is said.

The issue in Sudan is a civil war, so it's very difficult to call for anyone to help, or even identify what that help would look like. Most aid would be appropriated by the militia on all sides. There are more than two sides too, there are many groups and lots of infighting. And they're backed by many different nations with vested interests. Its about power, racism and, as always, money.

At a time when many people are rejecting asylum seekers from countries they see as violent, I really can't see any solution that I would protest for, other than that noone should be selling any more armaments. Which is something I support anyway. Or that we should take asylum seekers from there, which I also support.

Literally noone can go in to help or they're kidnapped. There have been calls for the military from various countries to go in with aid workers to protect them, but then you suddenly risk a white invasion, which is also not a very good idea.

So there's really nothing I feel I can do other than raise awareness, which is presumably what the OP is doing also.
My heart goes out to them, and I will continue to support the charities that I do. This feels trite in the situation though. I honestly don't know what else I could do to help anyone there.

I've read this thread with interest though, to see if anyone does have solutions. But it does appear as if some people are just using a desperately awful situation to further their own agenda. As was ever thus.

@Ihatetomatoes Islam is such a peaceful religion.
This story must not be damaged.

Do find the Radio news item I posted about. It is startling, lasts a few minutes..

Why the anti-Muslim sentiment? Are you judging all Muslims by a minority? And why pick on Muslim women? Muslim mumsnet is tiny and not representative of all Muslim women.

But this just isn't true? Why is this being repeated constantly? The group I am in in real life have been raising funds and awareness for Palestine and Sudan for months. It's not our fault that we can't reach everyone and some people don't tune into activism. There is only so much that people with families, jobs and lives can do, we can't make people choose to listen, surely if there is responsibility on us to talk about every crisis everywhere then there is a responsibility on people to meet us in the middle and take time to actually listen to what we are saying rather than make boring assumptions based on your own prejudices.

Sadly it is true that attacks on Christians are not reported. I didn't know about Coptic Christians in Egypt.

It has fertile areas on the banks of the Nile and (less usefully for farming) in the Nuba mountains, but most of the country is desert. Even the fertile areas are arid and are only reliably fertile because of the irrigation systems and care taken by farmers. Khartoum to Al Fashir involved two days driving.

They just want to sell their produce and feed people. Its heartbreaking

No wonder there's such a lack of empathy as to refugees in the country when there's such ignorance of the awful things going on in the world

A lot of Muslims are being killed in Sudan as well.

MollyZoyani · 31/10/2025 00:11

The Arab Muslim militia in Sudan have historically attacked & murdered & enslaved Black African Sudanese whether they are Christian or also Muslim as many actually are. The terrible genocide is more an ethnicity thing iirc than a religious thing. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

SirBobblysock · 31/10/2025 00:16

The press may not have paid it a huge amount of attention but it has been the focus of the humanitarian community for a long time. International negotiators, sanctions, millions in aid and huge NGO activity. It’s not enough ( and the Uk arms link needs serious investigation and action) but it is certainly not a “forgotten” crisis. There are plenty of reputable sites to get news on this and other ongoing international conflicts and events if you’re interested.
I think part of the problem is there have been similar problems in sub-Saharan Africa for decades - civil wars and massacres in Mozambique, Somalia, Ethiopia, Congo, CAR just off the top of my head. People have become immune to it and no longer separate the different countries and conflicts or identify with the victims. Having said that, the recent BBC covers of the hospital massacre was unbelievably harrowing.

You’re correct.
The videos I’ve seen are horrific and they are of Sudanese from different religions. I see some people are trying to make it a Muslim V Christian thing but they need to use a different conflict. This ain’t the one.
