To ask which songs stopped you in your tracks the first time heard you them?

Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

it was Eve & Paradise Lost by Bastille

Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks

Mine was Save Your Tears by Ariana Grande and The Weekend. I hadn't heard until three years after it came out and it was playing in New Look. I had to ask my teenage daughter who it was. She thought it was hilarious ;)

Lorraine Ellison singing Stay with me baby. I broke out in goosebumps and the tears started flowing. Totally involuntary response.

And the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt

Loads, but the first one was Wuthering Heights, fell in love with it in February 1978 and still am. More recent tracks are:

When Doves Cry by Prince. Was walking across a campsite in France and it was a perfect summer evening. Amazing song and lyrics.

Kate Bush Running up that hill on Wogan. It's 40 years ago!

Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - Radiohead. The first time I heard it, I was listening on my headphones on a walk and I had to stop just to breathe. It's just beautiful.

The opening riff of Smells Like Teen Spirit, echoing from a top floor window in halls in Sept 1991. Stopped me in my tracks.

Leon Bridges - River.

Actually heard it on Suits (TV programme) and was so blown away had to immediately search for it.

I think stopped in track is a bit dramatic, but I know what you mean @AngeloMysterioso or I think I do - you mean the ones that just are so evocativeright off the bat - not necessarily your favourite songs but just things that really speak to you in the moment
