To ask which songs stopped you in your tracks the first time heard you them?

Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

Another Love by Tom Odell. I had it on repeat for weeks

Blackbirds by Fingersnap. Heard it on a radio 4 programme. Had never heard of them before.

Tanita Tikaram - Twist in my sobriety. Such a haunting song.

Chappel Roan 'good luck Babe'. Heard it once on the radio and downloaded it immediately. I kept telling my family it was going to be a big hit. I had a similar reaction to Hozier 'take me to church' and told my friends about it but couldn't remember the details.

In late 90s I walked into a record store to browse CDs and heard Ocean Colour Scene 'the day they caught the train'. I asked the staff what was playing and bought the Moseley shoals album. I was broke and only owned about 4 albums so that was a big deal for me.

I first really heard this when they used it in the Handmaids Tale. The scene where the jezebels are clearing up the commanders body. So powerful.

Oh and I definitely agree about Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt. I put that on repeat and cry and cry when I want to get some sadness out.
