M&S - Could I? Should I?

My son refused point blank to let me buy him this hoodie we spotted in Markies (M&S). It says "you can and you should". Little fun-sucker claimed he'd worry a creepy man would see him wearing it. I would have so enjoyed smooshing a Mr Whippy into his wee face. His big sister had similar thoughts.
Do you think the designers at Markies have a dark and twisted sense of humour or are we awful people?

I’m actually not sure what you mean?

BeanQuisine · 17/10/2025 21:11

Well it's an open invitation with plenty of encouragement. 😆

Smileybutwily · 17/10/2025 21:22

Eh?

Tagyoureit · 17/10/2025 21:24

He doesnt like it, surely thats a good enough reason not to buy it.

Why are you being weird about it?

Would you wear something you didnt like?

And it is awful, why design it so there's stripes through the text? And the text "you can and you should" is weird.

And why do you want smoosh ice cream into children's faces?

Weird!

Could I should I…what? 🤔

My point is the text "you can and you should" is weird. I don't want to smoosh ice cream into all children's faces. But my son (11) is definitely cheeky enough to warrant a Mr Whippy smooshed in his face as a one off! I mean, it might encourage me to add an extra fiver onto his pocket money but that's a lot less funny

You should give up drinking

You should give up drinking

Agreed

Yellowrose225588 · 17/10/2025 21:41

I don’t understand what Mr Whippy has got to do with your son expressing an opinion about a hoodie

Itwasatry · 17/10/2025 21:41

Sagaciously · 17/10/2025 21:27

Markies? 🤮

Sorry to make you barf- Markies is a localised name up here hence M&S in brackets for those of you south of Stonehaven

I just checked the time…..how many drinks so far ?

grumpygrape · 17/10/2025 21:43

Was just going to suggest Friday wine time 🍷

Crapola25 · 17/10/2025 21:44

Fashion designer here - i don't think it's weird at all. Have you seen Zara kids slogans? They are weird and whacky. Boys slogans tend to be a bit tongue in cheek, I think the tone isn't any different to what's out there on the high street.

SeaAndStars · 17/10/2025 21:45

Markies is a dog biscuit.

BIWI · 17/10/2025 21:46

I do miss the M&S troll!

JudgeBread · 17/10/2025 21:49

You get that if someone has a slogan on their clothes that it's not an actual instruction you're supposed to follow right? Do you think Jeffrey Dahmer was a big fan of Nike or something?

Bjorkdidit · 17/10/2025 21:55

Can I just say OP, if this

Was your thread, I think it was my favourite ever unintentional 'causing a furore on MN' thread.

But I don't like the hoodie, slogan or no slogan.

Screamingabdabz · 17/10/2025 22:01

No self respecting 11 year old would wear that irrespective of those words. It might as well say “Please bully me.”

PiggyPlumPie · 17/10/2025 22:09

I'm just south of Stonehaven and also call it Markies!

BeanQuisine · 17/10/2025 22:10

I remember as a kid my sister bought me a T-shirt with Stop Me & Buy One printed on it, which my mum thought was very dubious, but I just found it funny.

Occasionally smart alecs would stop me and I'd say "Sorry, sold out."

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 17/10/2025 22:14

That's one hideous garment,I wouldn't use it as a duster.
Union Square Markies must have some god awful menswear.🤮
