What are Hamas playing at?

It’s deeply worrying that Hamas haven’t returned all the dead hostages as agreed. I’ve seen comments saying it’s an impossible task given how Gaza has been reduced to rubble. But if that’s the case, they would have known they had lost the bodies. So why did they agree to return them if they knew they weren’t able to do so?

But those people they raped and killed were not armed. Are you saying it’s ok that Hamas killed and murdered innocent people? Wow!!! The only people to blame for the 18000 Palestinian deaths are Hamas. They deliberately attacked innocent people. They are evil.

Did you actually read my post?

And you believe the slaughter of 18000 unarmed children is a just response? You’re happy to defend that?

No. I think both sides are absolutely despicable. But Hamas deliberately killed innocent people knowing Israel would respond. Did they think Israel would ignore what they did. They knew very well they were putting Palestinian lives in danger. They are absolutely disgusting and deserve all the horrors of hell.

Yes I did. You seem to think Hamas we’re justified in killing innocent, unarmed people but get upset when Israel do it. Why? Apart from scale, what is the difference?

you keep on misquoting me - did you read my post where I said I do not condone the killing of innocent civilians or it suits your narrative to ignore that?

“Apart from scale”…. how many would be enough for you?

2023 (prior to Oct) was the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank - 234 killed by Israel and violent settlers. You’re ok with that?

We want to respond to this publicly because it's important that we operate in good faith across all of our boards, and especially on this one.

We’re absolutely fine with people disagreeing with moderation decisions and saying so openly - that’s part of what Mumsnet is about. But accusing a moderator of antisemitism is serious, and in this case, completely unfounded. It crosses a line from fair criticism into a personal attack that can do real harm.
If you’re unhappy with how something was handled, you're welcome to raise it with us, but it needs to be done without making damaging accusations.
On the subject of linking to particular sites, as we’ve said above:
We moderate posts in context, against our rules. A link to a site isn’t necessarily an endorsement, nor is it automatically a breach of our guidelines.
What we do remove is antisemitism (and all other forms of hate) wherever it appears, whether that’s in a user’s own words or in specific material they’re promoting.

It’s possible we’ve removed links to this site in the past, depending on context. But we don’t generally impose blanket bans, nor do we remove links simply because someone objects in principle.

But thr material being promoted - Electronic Intifada - is antisemitic. It's supportive of an antisemitic proscribed terror group.

None. None would be my number. No innocent civilians killed or raped or kidnapped and tortured. If both sides are doing that, why are you only condemning one side? You said Hamas were justified as they are “oppressed”. Hamas knew Israel would retaliate. They did it anyway. Do they are either very very stupid or were willing to get innocent Palestinian children killed because they wanted to provoke Israel. Which do you think it was?

camomilelawns · 22/10/2025 14:44

Cheeks4970 · 22/10/2025 09:19

You keep defending the Israelis and I will continue to believe in freedom for the Palestinians.

The Palestinians have had 5 opportunities to have their own State and have turned them all down

I think it important to look at this from both sides

If Hamas knew Israel would react to October 7th and therefore it is Hamas fault as you say

Surely Israel would also know that Hamas would also react to the 234 Palestinians killed by Israel in the 9 months prior to October 7th

This argument and justification that it is the sole fault of one side is nonsense

It’s not “material being promoted”, it’s an actual video of an interview with the former Israeli Defence Minister admitting to things that happened on Oct 7.

So both sides are at fault. We know this. But why is no one criticising Hamas? Why are there not anti Hamas demonstrations? I therefore assume all those people who are pro Palestine agree with what Hamas did. I think Israel were wrong, but then
why is everyone condemning them and not Hamas? Where are all the protests against Hamas?

Hosted on a pro-terrorist website in an article by a rape denier.

Better still, go out and picket the Iranian Embassy, because Iran are bankrolling Hamas.
See how that goes down.

It’s easy to make a comment like that (the Israelis will be happy with you) but have you actually looked into why they walked away from each proposal?

I would say that it was because they don't want a two-state solution. They want a one-state solution that doesn't include Israel existing.

In 1967 (the year of the 3rd rejection) The Arab League met in Sudan and issued its infamous three-NOs, no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with Israel.

That seems pretty clear to me.

Such a simplified response to an incredibly complex issue that you raised. Go and do some more thorough reading.

Maybe simplified but very accurate.

Your post sounds rather condescending and bossy to me, so please don't tell me what I should and shouldn't do.

Your defence for Israel is admirable.

What would I do if I lived in Gaza? Well, I’d want nothing to do with Hamas for a start. I would push for dialogue with Israel and seek a democratic government for an independent Gaza. But to me, it looks like Hamas that is standing in the way of that, not Israel.

In which case you’d probably be dead. Shot in the street by Hamas.

Yes. True. But it’s Hamas that is the enemy of the non fanatical Gaza residents
