What are Hamas playing at?

It’s deeply worrying that Hamas haven’t returned all the dead hostages as agreed. I’ve seen comments saying it’s an impossible task given how Gaza has been reduced to rubble. But if that’s the case, they would have known they had lost the bodies. So why did they agree to return them if they knew they weren’t able to do so?

Not my country, not my business what their immigration laws are.

I imagine it's pretty much Buddhist free and Hindu free as well. It doesn't mean that it's ok for a bunch of Hindus to invade and set up home there, unless the immigration rules allow it.

Someone being Jewish doesn't mean they are above the laws of immigration 🙄

Where did I say that? Everyone should have freedom of immigration according to each country’s conditions. I’m saying that if a Palestinian state is to be built then the Palestinians have made it clear that Jews cannot live there and I have a problem with that.

Are you on social media? A video just came up on my Insta feed from @ alonlee (he’s a Co-Director at Standing Together) of young Israeli women, probably in their 20s, dancing at their gym singing “May your village burn, May your village burn in Gaza”.

Disgusting. I’m sure a few horrible women can’t speak for all Israelis though.

Jujujudo · 17/10/2025 17:46

Yes, that would be the ideal solution I think. I mean it works for the Israelis - I think if the Palestinians would be willing to live in a place called Israel where they have full rights as citizens and freedom of religion (as the 2m Israeli Arabs and 7m Jews do) then yes, why not? But that’s not what they want right? They want a Palestinian state. Which is fine, if they are willing to live with Jews no? I’m not against anyone living anywhere, as long as they have full freedom and rights.

Great. But it cant be called Israel any more than the whole land called Palestine. Immigration laws would need to be changed to equalise the rights of both groups in terms of immigration as it wouldn't be fair for American Jews to be allowed to emigrate unless Jordanian Palestinians etc have the same rights.

I'm not against the idea of a truly equal single state but I don't think the the trust or appetite for it is there right now from either side. And I'm not sure you're up for it truly either, unless that state is Israel...

Is there a Jewish quota for every country? What about other minorites? The problem is that the sellers are trying to steal the land, they aren't moving in legitimately and trying to integrate into society. Why do you think the Jewish settlers deserve special treatment that no other group get, to ignore immigration laws and property rights?

Don’t presume to know what I feel - I don’t care what they call it as long as everyone who feels they have a right to live there can and do so peacefully and respectfully.

You’re putting words in my mouth. Again, I believe that no country should stop Antone from any religion or race from living there. Nobody has more rights than anyone else according to the conditions of the country. It feels like you’re trying to catch me out or something. I think I’m being reasonable and balanced and I don’t understand why you’re being antagonistic with me. I do not accept a country where Jews are not permitted to live. There are already too many.

There was a bit more to it than that.

When the Israelis pulled out of Gaza they left a behind flourishing market gardening industry (that had many foreign investors)
The Palestinians looted all the infrastructure, smashed up the green houses and dug up the irrigation systems.
They then used the irrigation pipes as rocket launchers to attack Israel.

It seems Palestinians have a habit of "biting the hand that feeds them".

www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna9331863

I remember this and I thought WTF then. Why destroy that gift?

I saw those greenhouses and market gardens back in the 80s when I visited. They went on for acres and acres, full to bursting with healthy fruit and veg.

Imagine the Israelis had packed up and removed the lot when they left. How would that have been viewed?

Of course countries shouldn't decide who can move there on the basis of religion (which incidentally, Israel does), but having immigration policies is pretty much universal. If someone doesn't meet the policy then being Jewish isn't some kind of automatic entry card. And it's that means there are countries with no Jewish people, then that doesn't matter. Not every religion is represented in every country.

Palestinians in West Bank have no more obligation to let someone move in because they are Jewish than any other minority. They only get in if they meet their immigration rules.

It feels incredibly racist to be to think that a group has the right to invade any land and to settle anywhere just because they are Jewish. No group, ethnicity or religion is above any other.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 17/10/2025 19:37

And I'm not trying to catch your or, I'm trying to understand. I own my house so I get to decide who lives in it. The same is true for countries, except for where they choose to sign up to treaties for asylum etc. Their house. Their country. Their border. No one can just move in. Jewish or not is irrelevant.

How much more of a Netanyahu fan girl could you be? Again it is not me calling for a trial? The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant. This is due process.

Netanyahu | International Criminal Court

They believe there is another evidence to tri Netanyahu for war crimes. Due process would be for him to face to court and defend himself.

Nice swerve, but if you can't be bothered to address what I actually posted, rather than resorting to lame ad hominem attacks, I suggest you don't bother at all. It's tedious. Your post is there for all to see. It wouldn't matter if it were Netanyahu or Bob the Throat Slasher from Grimsby - if you declare someone guilty without due process, due process ceases to carry any weight. And then we've all lost. Now throw your hands up and babble "it wasn't me" again. I'm sure we'll all appreciate you taking yet another chance to demonstrate that you just don't get it. And by "it", I mean "anything much".

Your wording is interesting there

It’s not ( officially ?) annex
Putting the ? in doesn't change anything
Israel toying with ideas such as this prevents any chance of peace for the Palestinians
You cannot extend your countries boundaries and steal land

The ? was put in because I am confused.

The West Bank was formally annexed on 24 April 1950, by Jordan but the annexation was widely considered as illegal and void by most of the international community, including the Arab League, which ultimately decided to treat Jordan as a temporary trustee pending future settlement.

So the move was declared illegal but no penalties were put on Jordan because of this "land-grab".
In fact they were rewarded by being given temporary control of the area, which they did not formally relinquish until1988.

This is the same bit of land that is in dispute now.

If it wasn't considered theft in 1950 why is it considered theft now?

It seems some people want it both ways 🤔

No official identification has been done yet so it's not definite yet, given that Hamas have twice previously given back the remains of someone else that they claimed was an Israeli hostage. Hopefully we'll get an official identification today.

Can we leave Jesus Christ out of it, please ?

if you’re more offended by the use of Jesus Christ than 18,000 murdered children then you’re the problem

Lostmyusernametoday · 18/10/2025 06:38

If they want me to remove it of course I’ll ask to. I am upset to have inadvertently offended someone but I’ve apologised so I hope that’s enough.
So, a meaningless apology as you've repeated your blasphemy?

I didn’t apologise no idea where you got that from. If you’re more offended by blasphemy than the murder of 18,000 children you’ve got the bible all wrong

Stop accusing me of things I didn't do/think/say.

When you show such disrespect for a religion I would suggest that maybe you are part of the problem.

Posing a threat to those around them with their actions.

Oh well that’s okay then.

Whilst blasphemy is not against the law people are still offended by it
As is their right !

Yes, it was. Even Israel acknowledged that.

Both sides are as bad as each other, all points scoring and no concern for the civilian population.

Hamas are terrorists and deserve absolutely no "understanding", but those on the other side are gleeful in the "gotcha" of them not being able to return bodies, which was always impossible.

I am not sure that those mourning their loved ones would agree with you.

Valeriekat · 18/10/2025 18:54

Cheeks4970 · 15/10/2025 11:11

I obviously see this situation completely differently from almost all others on this thread. I have followed what has been going on in Palestine for many years prior to Oct 2023, completely horrified at the injustice that has been metered out to the Palestinians. I believe people who are occupied have a right to resist. I want freedom for the Palestinian people. I see the people like Netanyahu and Trump as the real terrorists of the world.

Are you sure that you understand anything of the history of the region?

Well they’ve made absolutely no comment on the murder of almost 20,000 children and yet decided my use of language was the problem. That’s the real issue!
