What are Hamas playing at?

It’s deeply worrying that Hamas haven’t returned all the dead hostages as agreed. I’ve seen comments saying it’s an impossible task given how Gaza has been reduced to rubble. But if that’s the case, they would have known they had lost the bodies. So why did they agree to return them if they knew they weren’t able to do so?

I’m not sure Hamas have any intention of cooperating.

ImSoJulia · 15/10/2025 08:15

I don't think murderous thugs keep a record of these things I'm afraid.

Then why bother agreeing to the deal in the first place I wonder? Just to buy a few days of time?

Craftysue · 15/10/2025 08:27

Just to prolong the suffering of the bereaved families. Apparently they've sent back an unidentified body - they don't even care about their own people

ForCraftyWriter · 15/10/2025 08:31

Because the alternative threat was so great of course they had to buy a few days more time. What else could they have done under that pressure?
I’m not sure how bombing 1000s more civilians to death will be an appropriate response for deceased hostages being unfortunately irretrievable in the rubble though.

drspouse · 15/10/2025 08:33

They are Hamas, what do you think they are playing at?

Lifestooshort71 · 15/10/2025 08:37

I can't imagine for one moment that the bodies have been kept safe (refrigerated?) and labelled awaiting this day. They've located and returned a handful and put a stray in for good measure to see what happens. They cannot return the bodies to the grieving families because they no longer have them/never respected them enough to save them - we shouldn't attribute caring and humanitarian responses to these thugs. I think they agreed to the return as a throw-away gesture ......I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong 😢😢😢.

RainbowBagels · 15/10/2025 08:37

They've miraculously found some more bodies after they were threatened with forcible disarmament by Trump though. They are playing for time or they are busy killing Palestinians they see as rival militas or traitors, as they have been doing all along.

Growlybear83 · 15/10/2025 08:38

How are they meant to find all the bodies of the hostages when Israel have reduced most buildings to rubble and have almost certainly killed some of their own citizens during their constant two year bombardment of the area? There are countless Palestinian bodies buried under the rubble as well.

JacknDiane · 15/10/2025 08:40

I can't see how they will know where the bodies are, the place is in rubble.

BeeKee · 15/10/2025 08:45

Hamas is a terror organisation. They have no desire for peace. They don't care at all about the Palestinian people.

Have you read my OP? I literally address this very point!

Because of their own actions.

Then as I asked in my OP, why agree to return them within 72 hours (or whatever the deadline was?)

They always said that they may not be able to locate all the bodies and that was acknowledged in the ceasefire deal. There was no alternative to not going along with trump's tremendous peace plan considering the alternative was that he would reign down hell on Gaza if they didn't.
Bibi is only delighted anyway as it's gives him as reason to continue starving innocent children and shooting dead civilians. I hope there's a special place in hell for him and all his supporters and enablers.

Do you have a link for that, @Rickrolypoly? I don’t recall seeing it mentioned anywhere in the news reports on this.

Then why say they can?! My take on it is that also Hamas have probably tortured and hugely abused those hostages who are now dead, and returning them, and the subsequent autopsies, would show them up for the animals they are. I wish people would stop holding them up as freedom fighters. Watch them killing their own people yesterday, with the Palestinians on their knees with a bullet in the back of the head, whilst other baying Palestinian cheerleaders applauded. That’s the true picture of Hamas and the Palestinians. And we now have people here who have switched their pro Palestinian protests to collecting money to rebuild Gaza. Thanks, but no thanks….

Well I heard it on shy news but did a quick Google

The only civilians I saw being shot yesterday were Hamas shooting down their own people in plain sight, being cheered on by the Palestinians. And I’m guessing more to follow….

As the saying goes.....

First poster nails it.

The thing that people in the Western world don't understand is, these people are religiously indoctrinated to believe that people that don't follow said religion are beneath them.
Yes, people that don't routinely abuse women and children aren't as good as them.

The IDF shot 5 civilians yesterday maybe read more news.
I am not defending hamas or their actions by the way, they are scum.

NikkiPotnick · 15/10/2025 09:04

Hamas agreed to the ceasefire agreement because they were backed into a corner. It wasn't a choice. They clearly didn't want to release all the living hostages, because that's the main part of their leverage gone.

They're trying it on now because they know the remains of the dead hostages are also still some leverage, and they reckon that now everyone alive is out, the international pressure will abate sufficiently that they'll be able to get away with keeping some.

It is also a realistic possibility that they're not able to recover every single one, but clearly they've also made a choice to play silly buggers with some of them.

Hamas is getting rid of rival clans, which it says are Israeli collaborators. Netanyahu has said he does arm these clans in the hope they'll fight Hamas. As he says, he doesn't care if Hamas kills them or they kill Hamas.

While making no definitive allegations, info in the article suggests the clans have kept some key areas of Gaza clear for Israel.
