To wonder if DH should appeal parking fine - photo included

Dh went to carpark last week. He parked slightly over the hatching instead of within white lines as he had a passenger and car next to him was quite close to white line. Obviously his parking isn’t great but worth an appeal for £100 fine?

I wouldn't think so. He could have asked the passenger to get out and then lined up the car within the white lines. He did not have to leave it like that.

ComfortFoodCafe · 14/10/2025 11:40

No, he hasnt got a leg to stand on. theres moving out slightly due to the next car and theres just not trying at all. He is the latter.

TwinklyStork · 14/10/2025 11:42

Nope. Serves him right. HPLAC.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 14/10/2025 11:44

That's an awful piece of parking - I mean, I am surprised that they are picking up on it, but glad. It looks as if not only is he too far over and on the hatchings, but hasn't even pulled fully into the space judging by the huge gap at the front as well. The hatching is there for a reason, probably to ensure visibility, and that parking negates that!

Coulddowithanap · 14/10/2025 11:44

I agree with the posters above. He could have parked properly after the passenger got out. Looks like he left a massive gap between the cars.

Foreverwipingcounters · 14/10/2025 11:44

No, he parked on the hatched markings. That's not slightly over either. Hopefully the fine will be a learning curve so he can work on improving his parking.

CaptainSevenofNine · 14/10/2025 11:44

Nope. DH once had one like this where he was out the line lengthways and it was due to the car behind him being parked too far forward so DH has no choice but to be out of the box. Though he did reverse as close as he could to the other car.

he appealed no luck.

your passenger could have got out first allowing him to park properly. 🤷🏼‍♀️

thisishowloween · 14/10/2025 11:45

No - that’s horrendous parking. He could have just let his passenger out before pulling into the space.

Clearinguptheclutter · 14/10/2025 11:45

I’ve never known people to be fined for poor parking but pleased to hear that it’s actually a thing

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 14/10/2025 11:45

Have you looked at the photo you posted? What would you be appealing?

Mealy82 · 14/10/2025 11:46

It costs nothing to appeal, shouldn't take long and many are successful, so I would. Having said that, what would the appeal be based upon? The fine seems ridiculous given how minor the indiscretion is, but they are the rules

Bobiverse · 14/10/2025 11:46

He has bags of space to park within the bay and be able to open the passenger door. Or the passenger could have got out before he parked.

He has no chance. The other car is within its bay. Your husband just parked badly and is looking for excuses.

Forgottenidentity · 14/10/2025 11:47

Agreed it is rubbish parking but i get more frustrated when people take up 2 spaces. He was only gone 5 minutes to buy a sandwich.., the most expensive Tesco’s meal deal!

This. I used to love YPLAC on FB

Shodan · 14/10/2025 11:48

😆That's not 'slightly over'- both of the offside wheels are within the hatched section. No grounds for appeal there.

He should have reversed in to allow the passenger an easy exit.

HelpMeGetThrough · 14/10/2025 11:49

Not a chance, as parking goes, that’s a shocker.

Mealy82 · 14/10/2025 11:49

He's only a tiny bit over the line. Yes it's poor parking but some of the responses are written as if there's a trail of dead bodies under the wheels

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/10/2025 11:50

What would your appeal be based on?

Thatstheheatingon · 14/10/2025 11:51

In Tesco? There must have been someone waiting to swoop down on him as soon as he left the car!
I don't think it's fair to be fined given the amount I spend in the supermarket - and I imagine a lot of not-great parking is done by people with children trying to avoid doors or by elderly people - but I assume the car park is now privately owned by another company.

Lilacflowers007 · 14/10/2025 11:52

If I saw your DH’s parking I’d instantly assume he’s one of them losers that think he’s better than everyone else so needs 2 parking spaces.

Yes, rightly so he gets fined

GoldenPecker · 14/10/2025 11:52

If he needed that much space for the passenger to get out then he should have let them out first before parking or reversed into the space so the passenger had loads of room to get out. You could try appealing but I think the fine would stand.

I agree it’s rubbish parking but he didn’t take up 2 spaces

No, he parked on the hatches. So still a fine.

Why do you think it isn’t? Or what would you appeal on?

pay the fine if you commit the crime, it’s obvious DH deserves a parking ticket. What’s there to appeal? The photo shows obviously bad parking

Totally agree! I pay I do what I want
I don't think it's fair I would get fined parking badly in the city given the amount of council tax I pay.

Re people parking badly because they need more space. Back of the carpark is always empty. AnywhereI ever went
