To wonder if DH should appeal parking fine - photo included

Dh went to carpark last week. He parked slightly over the hatching instead of within white lines as he had a passenger and car next to him was quite close to white line. Obviously his parking isn’t great but worth an appeal for £100 fine?

I would appeal. He didnt take up two spaces. He hasn't impacted anyone and he couldnt park further over die to the other car being parked on while line

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 14/10/2025 11:56

Yeah, that’s absolutely terrible parking

MsTamborineMan · 14/10/2025 11:56

He's quite a long way over the line, and the vehicle next door is within their space, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. He isn't parked to allow enough space for a passenger to get out he's just parked shockingly!

Expensive meal deal yes, but in future he can learn to park better

Sonolanona · 14/10/2025 11:56

Not a chance. I was Traffic Warden (briefly..don't shoot me) and that would definitely get a ticket! Just a fraction over, I would have passed up, but that is terrible parking, and it makes no difference if you are just popping in for 5 mins or 5 hours.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 14/10/2025 11:57

And other cars can be as close to the line as they like - that’s absolutely fine.

I mean there's enough space to open the passenger door twice over!

isitmytime · 14/10/2025 11:57

That is terrible parking, it’s looks like it’s been dumped. He’s not even tried to straighten it up!
If the other car was too close to the line he could have parked else where or let the passenger out and parked tight against the driver side line so there was enough space.
there’s no ground for appeal really it’s just bad parking

Agreed it is rubbish parking but i get more frustrated when people take up 2 spaces. He was only gone 5 minutes to buy a sandwich.., the most expensive Tesco’s meal deal!

The hatched marking are there for a reason though. At our local Tesco everyone uses the hatched markings as parking bays, like it appears the car in the background has. It makes navigating the car park (both as a driver and pedestrian) dangerous. I can understand why Tesco would be clamping down on this.

minipie · 14/10/2025 11:59

The hatching is presumably there so other cars can move around, it’s not just “spare space” so don’t agree with pp who said he didn’t impact anyone

it really wouldn’t have killed him to line up the car after passenger got out

sorry but I don’t see a ground for appeal

skyeisthelimit · 14/10/2025 12:02

YABU, that is terrible parking, as so many PP have said, he should have let passenger out and parked properly. There isn't anything to appeal.

Hatches are usually there for a reason. In our town, if people park on the hatches then the bus can't get through. In the next town, another example, if people park on the hatches, then the delivery lorry can't turn round.

Almost2026 · 14/10/2025 12:02

There is a guy on facebook charges about £15 to do the appeal for you. Mostly wins for what I can see. I sent him one from my son and he got that cancelled.

Is he even in the space at the back? Looks like his back end is sticking out onto the road.

LTB

I don't think it's fair to be fined given the amount I spend in the supermarket

Totally agree! I pay I do what I want
I don't think it's fair I would get fined parking badly in the city given the amount of council tax I pay.

Re people parking badly because they need more space. Back of the carpark is always empty. AnywhereI ever went

Edited

What cut off point for a weekly shop do you think would be reasonable to make your spouse exempt from Parking like the rest of us?

Lifeisnotalwaysfair · 14/10/2025 12:17

Is it a private company issuing the fine? I thought they had no actual authority, you'd need to search this online not take my word for it. Yes, why not appeal, it's not something you should give £100 of your hard earned money for, to a private company.

Lairymary · 14/10/2025 12:18

That's not parked, it's abandoned....

Tubestrike · 14/10/2025 12:20

It's more abandoned than parked !

nomas · 14/10/2025 12:21

He parked slightly over the hatching instead of within white lines as he had a passenger and car next to him was quite close to white line.

Slightly? 😂And, ugh, he did it deliberately. What an idiot. His passenger could have got out before he parked. Parking attendants have quotas and targets, anyone with common sense knows you don't get them an excuse to ticket you!

It's a stupidity tax.

DidIForgetPEAgain · 14/10/2025 12:22

I would definitely appeal it

jonthebatiste · 14/10/2025 12:22

That parking screams “I’m only going to be two minutes, can’t you just wait??”. Just like every badly parked car outside a school at pick up. Let the fine be a lesson that actually no, he has no greater entitlement than anyone else just because he’s in a hurry.

P00hsticks · 14/10/2025 12:23

The people over on the Parking fines board on the MSE forum will tell you that it's not a 'fine' - it's a speculative invoice. Appealing probably won't achieve anything but if he doesn't want to pay there is loads of advice over there on the steps to take - the vast majority of parking companies will give up before it gets to court.

zeebra · 14/10/2025 12:24

Sorry but if you were trying to show an illustration of the word 'entitlement', I dont think you would get a better winner than that!

whatevenwasthat · 14/10/2025 12:26

He could have used a different space all together.

Nearly50omg · 14/10/2025 12:28

That’s not parked that’s abandoned 😂

Jellybunny56 · 14/10/2025 12:28

What are his grounds for appeal?? He’s well over the line, parked like an arsehole, deserves every penny of the fine.
