Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

With Israel, yes. Not so much among themselves sadly but this is what you all wanted.

It was Israel who killed 6 Palestinians today, Sherlock Hmm

Yes as they approached the ceasefire line. Or do you think they should just let Oct 7 happen again, to prove they’re not breaking a ceasefire?

There is zero evidence of Israel’s claims because they don’t let the media in. The Palestinians today were not beyond the ceasefire line.

You are of the ilk who think Israel can kill indiscriminately.

This whole thread is just an exercise in you being annoyed that people care about Palestinians.

Toadetta · 14/10/2025 19:15

Understandable to feel sad at the ongoing situation on the news and feel like you don't want to hear about dying children anymore. In a way it shows empathy rather than a lack of, but the rest of your post suggests you think these people are just sat in the middle of a war zone refusing to move or something. They are fish in a barrel with nowhere to go.

No but Palestinians do a good job of live-streaming virtually everything that’s happening in there. Why not this? Prove the brutality once and for all? I’m sure Al Jazeera would’ve been happy to show it.

Hamas are now the shooters.

Hamas need to be overthrown and Palestine developed into a modern country for there ever to be lasting peace in the region.

It does indeed, OonaStubbs, but I'm not sure how that will ever be achieved when polls suggest a large % of Palestinians still support Hamas

I didn't mean hamas I meant women and children. Bit harsh to say they should just accept they've lost territory when I'm sure they'd love to relocate literally anywhere else in the world but can't.

This is fascinating OP. All the comments are against you but half the voters agree with you. It doesn’t suggest that healthy debate is alive on this topic if basically all the people who agree feel they can’t comment.

I can’t see the voting (it annoys me so I turned it off) but I think a lot of people feel the way the OP does.

The mismatch between the voting and the comments makes perfect sense to me. The people who agree with the OP are sick of hearing about Gaza so they're unlikely to want to engage in further discussion about it.

What makes less sense is that the OP, who apparently needs a break from the Gaza issue, should start a thread and spend a lot of time discussing Gaza on MN. I guess we don't always do the things that we believe to be good for us.

Rattanlamp · 14/10/2025 19:06

They don’t even want that.

No, as they say, they want Israel gone. Reasons vary but come down to the fact that Israel has disrupted the 800 year rule of Islam in the Levant by introducing a Jewish state into the 'ummah' or caliphate - I think Lebanon was tolerated because Muslims had a constitutional role along with Christians, but also there is not the visceral hatred of Christians as there is of Jews (though both pre-date Islam in the region). There was a swapping of populations during the 1948 war, but it seems - as far as I can tell as a novice on this one - that this was driven by Arab stats, not Israel, in that Arab states told Arabs to leave Israel and expelled Jews from the places where they had lived for hundreds of years (a bit like the Pakistan/India mess that was going on around the same time). Currently around 2M Arabs (Muslim and Christian) live in Israel and have the same rights of citizenship as Jews (though Netanyahu's right wing cabinet tried to end this leading ot protests on the streets a few years back, so they backed down). This is not really the case for Christians and Jews in Muslim states i.e. their right to freedom of religion is restricted by blasphemy laws protecting Islam.

Apparently they breached the ceasefire - stupid of Israel to do this.

I find it very hypocritical that you scramble about wanting to know how to keep Reform out (who would be a democratically elected government), yet think democracy in Gaza should be utterly sacred even though it means Hamas?

Firstly, I have never said that I believe Hamas should be allowed to government Gaza. I consider Hamas to be a terrorist group and, as such, they are not fit to govern. So please stop making incorrect assumptions about what you think I may or may not believe because you clearly have no idea.

Secondly, there is nothing remotely anti-democratic about wanting to keep Reform out, as long as that goal is achieved by democratic means. I am not advocating that anyone should be prevented from exercising their right to vote. I am merely keen to exercise my democratic right to do whatever I can to prevent them from winning.

So tell me, where exactly is the hypocrisy?

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 15/10/2025 11:19

*govern Gaza.

Bloody autocorrect.

If the Gazans elect a bunch of terrorists who execute the opposition in the street that is up to them. The POTUS says he will force Hamas to disarm - if I were a member of Hamas I'd believe him. He wants a nice, clear building site. (It's called gunboat diplomacy btw.)

You think Gaza has free elections?
Even if women can vote they will probably vote for who their husbands and fathers tell them to.
While Hamas still wield power in Gaza voting for anyone else is probably not safe

That is also true. But there are presumably more Gazans who hate Hamas than love them? Although I keep hearing Gazans talking of their sons, brothers, friends being 'martyred' and I do wonder. Though I suppose any suggestion that you disagree with Hamas publicly is liable to get you shot in the street because that is what Hamas is doing.
And people in the US, the UK, Australia etc. have marched in favour of this blood-thirsty bunch of terrorists - appalling.

aneelli · 17/10/2025 14:16

@Rattanlamp does Oct 7th justify the killing of more than 80,000 Palestinian civilians? The destruction of hospitals, schools? Don’t give Bs about Hamas hiding there, it doesn’t justify it! So F off with your bs, hope you feel exactly how the innocent Palestinians are feeling about their home and family members that have been killed, only then will the likes of you comprehend perhaps even then you will be blind as you are a cold evil hearted being

Calm down. What would you suggest if the same happened to the UK? If somebody raped your loved one while stabbing her to death and filmed themselves laughing with a go pro? If somebody did Oct 7 to the UK, you wouldn’t accept the perpetrators getting a free pass because the cowards hide themselves among civilians. Don’t pretend you would.

OonaStubbs · 17/10/2025 14:27

Why do Hamas hide amongst civilians instead of properly identifying their fighting forces as is required by the Geneva Convention?

It is very sad that you’re using a public forum just to propagate hatred. hatred is at the heart of everything wrong in the world and you are just pushing more and more
