Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

Rattanlamp · 13/10/2025 10:19

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

Does this one make you a bit uncomfy too, OP? Transparent as a fucking window you are. I'm out

How convenient.

We pretty much were in Koln and Hiroshima was questionable

I never cease to be amazed by the military prowess of Mumsnet users who are convinced they would’ve deftly achieved their battle aims without a single civilian life lost. More of you should join the army, you’re desperately needed!

Your solution to being faced if a horrific, terrible genocide is to expect the victims to put up with it so your feelings aren't hurt by having to be aware?

Rather than expecting the aggressors to stop their ethnic cleansing?

I think that's a very difficult perspective to support.

Yes, that’s exactly what I said, I can tell you’ve read all my posts.

Hopefully you'll get the break you need soon. There has been loads of news coverage but weirdly none of it has focused on the real victim which turned out to be you.

I think we could be best friends 😂

You know where I got my information from? Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. She visits her charities there and has been speaking about women and girls being victims of sexual violence in war. It was a very, very difficult read indeed. She is doing, perhaps in a small way, good work.
I was able to contribute to a charity which helps support the victims of sexual violence.

Which charity is this please?

TheGreatDownandOut · 13/10/2025 14:53

I agree to a point OP. Not that the UK government should ‘leave them to it’ but the amount of people whipping themselves up in to a frenzy over a foreign war that they can’t control is very surprising. I know of several people who aren’t just vocal about their views, but are actually obsessed with it.

On the first page, you have someone posting saying that people who think this way ‘must be on the Israeli side’ - nah, I’m not on any ‘side’

But it seems that, like during Covid when everyone became an expert virologist, everyone is now an expert on foreign affairs.

I’ve seen pro-Palestine protestors being questioned about their views and I honestly don’t think most would be able to find it on a map.

Hamas say it’s over.
Israel say it’s over.
Egypt say it’s over.
All other Muslim majority countries in the region say it’s over.

Corbyn and Mrs Bennett: ‘It’s not over!!! Watermelons’

This is just a stupid post. I don't think any of the parties that you have listed have actually claimed that it's "over" - please provide evidence for this claim.

It isn't "over" because we currently have a ceasefire but no peace agreement.

Trump might not understand the difference between the two, but I'm pretty sure that all of the other parties do.

And the peace agreement is the business of the involved regions and nothing to do with Tim and Katherine who live in Oxford and have been aggressively waving flags for 2 years.

You’re literally saying the opposite to the ‘other parties’ you speak of.

How am I saying the opposite to the other parties that you listed? Please provide evidence for your claim that they think "it's over". Because I don't think that's what they're saying at all.

Your random and pointless comments about Tim and Katherine from Oxford are simply a means of trying to deflect from the fact that you can't actually back up your claims.

Trump seems to think "it's over", I grant you. But he wasn't on your list and he isn't known for his grasp on the detail.

Literally a cursory google will provide you statements from every party mentioned that the war is over. Why on earth can’t you just admit it? This Western desire to cling to endless conflict is utterly bizarre. The below was the first thing that came up when I typed ‘Hamas’ and ‘war over’.

And for complete and absolute clarity, before Mrs Bennett tries to retrospectively edit her comment or say ‘I read that completely differently…’ here is a verbatim extract:

"We have received assurances from the brotherly mediators and the US administration, all confirming that the war has come to a complete end," Khalil al-Hayya said in a speech broadcast on Al Jazeera.

Corbin and crowd should march all the way to hamas hq and demand peace. In fact we've thousands to send there and they've already got the flags. Get the flotilla ready. Yayyyy. Greta can go too.

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack is absolutely right, the conflict is far from over.

Even now, more Israeli settlers are settling on Palestinian land. The plan is to accelerate the spread of settlements in the occupied territories to such an extent that they gradually remove any hope for Palestinian state.

You are either being naive or disingenuous.

‘Conflict’ and ‘negotiation’ are not synonymous. Pretending they are to cover up Mrs Bennett’s embarrassment is a joke.

If ‘negotiation’ was ‘war’ then we are currently at war with several countries and WW2 is still ongoing as Gaza is a resulting issue which is not yet finalised. But you wouldn’t agree with those statements would you?

She didn't even use the word 'negotiation'? She literally said 'I haven't "had enough" of hearing about Gaza because the conflict has not yet been resolved'.

Which is correct.

SpaceRaccoon · 13/10/2025 16:39

Was Germany levelled and the extermination of all German citizens attempted to now allow a single child to grow to be a potential Nazi? Because yes, if that's how the allies had reacted they would I deed be to blame

Up to two million German civilians were killed in WW2, so you do the maths on that.
Also if the Israelis have been trying to exterminate all Gazans they've done a piss poor job of it.

I am not wrong to say that there are still massive issues which remain unresolved. If you want to bury your head in the sand about it, that's your choice, but you can't expect the rest of the world to go along with your pretence.

I'm not the one who is embarrassing myself here.
