Starmer thinks I am an enemy of the state

1000 replies

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 10:14

So we have it Starmer has declared at conference because I support Reform I am now an enemy of his Government.

Who would have thought it, a middle class British worker, now an enemy in the country I was born. And they say Reform is the party of Fascists. Yet we also now have the Home Secretary saying "In solving this crisis, you may not always like what I do. We will have to question some of the assumptions and legal constraints that have lasted for a generation and more". Maybe the Home Secretary too will be deemed an enemy of the state.

Am I being unreasonable to think this should be seen as a rallying cry to get this Government out at the first opportunity.

Look, I don’t disagree with you and I don’t vote reform. But, what I have learned on Mumsnet is that any differing of opinion is met with glee because instead of listening to you or onboarding other opinions they simply shut their ears and label you. They do this, because it’s easier for them!

R0ckandHardPlace · 01/10/2025 10:22

But if people align and march with a party who have clear fascist views, they must take responsibility for educating themselves about the aims and views of that organisation. You can’t say “I’m not racist, I’m happy for people to come here and live and work legally; it’s just the ones coming on boats that I don’t agree with” when Farage has made it clear that he wants to deport EVERYONE who isn’t British born. Even families that have lived and worked here for decades.

Do you agree with that?

Stoneblock · 01/10/2025 10:23

I agreed with everything he said, but I also think it was a dreadful mistake to say it, and will just entrench Reform support further.

LetItRainLetItBePeaceful · 01/10/2025 10:24

KS is sounding increasingly desperate and like a man backed into a corner who knows time is running out for him.

I wouldn't worry about what he says.

I'm a white, female, born here and thinking of voting reform too.

The news is overun with high inflation, low growth, immigration problems, failing services and yesterday RR says something about increasing benefits re child benefit cap. I mean seriously. Debt is increasing each month, interest on goverment bonds is high as the UK is no longer seen as a safe place to invest.

Just get the fuck out of parliament both of you and let someone with some balls take over.

I used to vote Tory. I've never voted labour and I never considered reform until this year.

TwistyTales · 01/10/2025 10:24

He didn't call you or anyone else an enemy of the state. This is what he said:

Controlling migration is a reasonable goal.

But if you throw bricks and smash up private property…

That’s not legitimate – that’s thuggery.

Free speech is a British value – and we have guarded it for centuries.

But if you incite racist violence and hatred…

That’s not expressing concern – it’s criminal.

This party, this great party, is proud of our flags…

Yet if they are painted alongside graffiti…

Telling a Chinese takeaway owner to “go home”…

That’s not pride – that’s racism.

And if you say or imply…

That people cannot be English or British…

Because of the colour of their skin…

That mixed heritage families owe you an explanation…

And that people who have lived here for generations…

Raised their children here…

Built lives in their communities…

Working in our schools, our hospitals, running businesses…

Our neighbours…

If you say they should now be deported…

Then mark my words…

We will fight you with everything we have…

Because you are an enemy of national renewal

ExpressCheckout · 01/10/2025 10:24

@Bumblebee72 Did you bother listening to the whole speech? That's not what he said at all. Perhaps watch it all before rushing to judgement or listening to Farage's exaggerated response.

You know Reform also wants to lift the two child benefit cap? Even Farage sees that it is the right thing to do.

Which of Reform's policies do you agree with? (Other than the immigration proposals)

Have you actually listened to KS speech as he didn't say that at all?

childofthe607080s · 01/10/2025 10:28

I thought reform wanted to question the legal constraints - you know like human rights so why does it bother you coming from someone else?

Holdonforsummer · 01/10/2025 10:29

Wow, I think his speech is really powerful and very true. The whole world has problems at the moment - wars, inflations, mass migration. The difference between Labour and Reform is that Reform pretend there are simple solutions to everything and Labour acknowledge there aren’t. Which is what makes Reform appealing to some people. But Starmer is right and I think a lot of people are being sucked in by the idea these big problems are easy to solve. If they were, every country would have already solved them.

PraisebetoGod · 01/10/2025 10:29

I will probably end up voting for reform because I am furious with Labour and the tories. They have fucked hard working people continually and there's only so much a person can take. I am not unaware of the problems a Reform government will bring but surely Nigel can't fuck me any harder than Starmer is doing and Johnson already has. It's diabolical it's got to this point, yet, here we are.

Holdonforsummer · 01/10/2025 10:30

And by the way - it’s comments like your original post which are whipping are more problems. That’s what happens when you don’t listen to or read everything properly and understand what is actually being said.

I don't have any issues with goverments making decisions like this if we can afford them. Labour have increased our debt hugely, inflation is going up and growth is practically nil. They are offering this benefit to try to stop voters voting reform. They will likely have changed their mind about it by next month.

NF is planning lots of changes. No doubt I won't agree with them all. Please though lets have a prime minister with some balls who will make hard decisions and stick by them.

LeaAndDer · 01/10/2025 10:31

my thoughts on this are that for most people who would vote reform would do so as they are fed up with funding illegal able bodied young men. Young men who come here because we give them everything for nothing. Meanwhile our own people are homeless and/or struggling to live despite having jobs. It’s not about being racists its about looking after our own first. I speak as a granny to a mixed race child, so please don’t call me racist for my thoughts.

childofthe607080s · 01/10/2025 10:33

Oh yes Nigel can fuck you harder -

typical right wing policies would remove your NHS ( and private insurance models imported from his buddies in the US will cost you a lot more )

he will fuck your health by reducing legislation that keeps food basically safe - importing more from his buddies in the US

and I strongly suspect that education will go down the pan - all funding withdrawn form universities - because right wing governments don’t want an educated middle class

peoplw who have been born in this country and lived and paid taxes will be terrified if their skin is the wrong colour

Katemax82 · 01/10/2025 10:35

Starmer is an enemy of the state

childofthe607080s · 01/10/2025 10:36

They are told a lie about illegal men- they get exported back home - slowly yes but they have sent tens of thousands back in the first few months of this year - 10% more than in the same period last year

we are not giving illegal men things denied to our own citizens

but also - what exactly do you want since sending them back isn’t enough? Execution squads in the beaches ?

childofthe607080s · 01/10/2025 10:37

And your grandchild is at risk because of the assumption that all none white are illegal

Another uncosted spending promise from the magic money tree. Conservatives and right leaning voters are all too often scornful of leftist economics but seem to be utterly fine with these. Why is that?

FWIW, I agree that the cap should be lifted to alleviate child poverty. However, I don't think Farage's motives are anything to do with child poverty, I think they are primarily populist and pro-natalist.

I've not been thrilled with the Labour government so far but that's a great, measured speech. If people are getting hysterical about being called an enemy of the state they might want to do some introspection on why.

randomchap · 01/10/2025 10:37

So as a reform voter you're happy with:

Uncosted tax cuts for the richest
Deregulation and cuts to workers rights
Losing your human rights through the loss of the ECHR
Losing the NHS

It's also worth noting that Reform are a business and there's no way of members of the public joining them and shaping policy. At least with Labour, Conservative, Liberal Dem etc they are actually political parties with membership not a business pretending to be one

Like Nigel Farage has stuck by his political parties when things got tough? 🤨
