Starmer thinks I am an enemy of the state

1000 replies

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 10:14

So we have it Starmer has declared at conference because I support Reform I am now an enemy of his Government.

Who would have thought it, a middle class British worker, now an enemy in the country I was born. And they say Reform is the party of Fascists. Yet we also now have the Home Secretary saying "In solving this crisis, you may not always like what I do. We will have to question some of the assumptions and legal constraints that have lasted for a generation and more". Maybe the Home Secretary too will be deemed an enemy of the state.

Am I being unreasonable to think this should be seen as a rallying cry to get this Government out at the first opportunity.

Enemy of the state 😀

talk about bigging yourself up…very dramatic

Not to be outdone, Reform’s Chief of Policy has now said that Starmer is inciting violence against Farage.
If it wasn’t so serious, it would be hilarious.

The same Reform who invited Lucy Connelly to speak at their conference?

The same Reform who promotes Free Speech?

Do you not understand how mumsnet works. There isn't a single thread on each topic. We regularly get new threads. Reading and posting on threads is entirely optional - you won't get kicked off if you don't add a comment to each

Are you going to acknowledge that the premise of your thread is wrong? Starmer didn't call anyone an enemy of the state.

PraisebetoGod · 01/10/2025 11:00

BlakeCarrington · 01/10/2025 10:42

This is sort of how I feel too. I think Lab and Cons both should be doing a lot more
apologising and acknowledging the damn mess both parties have led us into.

Not just acknowledge and apologise but to actively take steps to address the mess they have made for us.

I think people are going to vote reform because it's a clear message to the current and previous governments who have continually not listened to the electorate. We have been pushed into a corner. So people are telling me Reform will tank the country. No worries. From my point of view we are already tanked. There's no road left to go down now anyway.

He didn't call you or anyone else an enemy of the state. This is what he said:

Controlling migration is a reasonable goal.

But if you throw bricks and smash up private property…

That’s not legitimate – that’s thuggery.

Free speech is a British value – and we have guarded it for centuries.

But if you incite racist violence and hatred…

That’s not expressing concern – it’s criminal.

This party, this great party, is proud of our flags…

Yet if they are painted alongside graffiti…

Telling a Chinese takeaway owner to “go home”…

That’s not pride – that’s racism.

And if you say or imply…

That people cannot be English or British…

Because of the colour of their skin…

That mixed heritage families owe you an explanation…

And that people who have lived here for generations…

Raised their children here…

Built lives in their communities…

Working in our schools, our hospitals, running businesses…

Our neighbours…

If you say they should now be deported…

Then mark my words…

We will fight you with everything we have…

Because you are an enemy of national renewal

But what he doesn't seem to get it the people he has mentioned is not who people have beef with, it's the unfettered migration of people of any colour, that come, make use of our facilities and put nothing in at all.

My husbands life was saved by a man so black he is blue. He is one of my top five favourite people in the world. His dialysis nurse is from India and likewise. I've grown up and worked with people of all races and I have enjoyed working with them all with one exception.

The fact that Starmer said what he said is either a blind or he genuinely doesn't get it and either is frightening.

Digdongdoo · 01/10/2025 11:01

He didn't say that. You don't need anyone's approval to vote for Reform, but if you have to make stuff up to justify it then more fool you.

The irony is off the scale, given Farage's own behaviour.

LadyoftheMercians · 01/10/2025 11:02

I can't understand why any woman would vote reform - Farage is a mini trump and wants to stop safe abortion.

Thats apart from all the racist shit the tax dodging arsehole spouts.

And that was a good speech.
I don't like Reeves. I don't particular like Starmer, but if we don't fight the fascist tide now, we will bitterly regret it.
Reform as a protest vote is democracy hanging itself. Labour has its work cut out but the last thing they need is this permanent sniping from agents of chaos who don't give a shit about this country, lie in the face of working class people and vomit bile at every opportunity!

yesterday RR says something about increasing benefits re child benefit cap

You know Reform also wants to lift the two child benefit cap? Even Farage sees that it is the right thing to do.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yx062pvlvo.amp

Edited

I can't agree that lifting the two child benefit cap is the right thing to do. I think the two child cap was a really good decision and has helped curb the number of women who were having as many children as possible while using benefits as a lifestyle choice. The two child cap does not mean that you have to limit your family to two children, it simply means that the state will only help financially with two. I say this as someone who has three children.

smallglassbottle · 01/10/2025 11:04

The country is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I despise this so called government with every fibre of my being, but farage will be as bad, if not worse. I think we'll end up with an IMF bailout and massive austerity measures if reform lead the government because they'll basically asset strip what's left of us and we'll be left with absolutely nothing. Both lame weasel words starmer and farage hate the country and every one of us. I'm sickened by what passes for governance now.

These are the sort of people Reform want to get rid of by rescinding their ILR.

I think it is you that doesn't get it.

He changed his mind on Europeans but still plans to do it retrospectively to people from the Commonwealth, mainly Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis & Nigerians

When you say “do it” do you mean deport?

My understanding is it will be the options of a 5 year visa renewal system or become a citizen.

I would assume if both a visa and citizenship are refused then deportation would be on the table, which is in line with most other countries practices.

You seem to want to be labelled as an enemy. So fair enough, anyone who supports Farage's Farago is my enemy 🙂

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 10:48

You as opposed to the uncosted benefit increases as bribes for labour voters?

I am actually in favour of deregulation but isn't Starmer talking about doing just anyway that for growth.

I don't think we need to rely on Europe to dictate our rules.

The NHS is already fucked. Those that love it seem to take the view, its shit service but its our shit service so that's ok.

I'm not talking about what Labour are doing, but what Reform will do. Stop deflecting and answer the question

Uncosted tax cuts? Do you see how they fucked the economy when Truss tried it?
Loss of workers rights? Happy to see maternity rights go? No more employment tribunals etc? Less or no rights to holidays?
Losing your human rights? You might be happy others lose theirs but you'll be losing yours too.
Losing the NHS to an insurance based system? Are you genuinely happy to have your healthcare at the whims of a capricious and greedy insurance company?

Farage is selling simple fixes to very complicated problems, he doesn't care that the fixes won't work, he's just a mouthpiece for the disaster capitalists who fund him. They'll make a fortune out of a Reform government and the rest of us will lose out massively.

But in your mind that's ok because....

Yes deport, it's a deportation plan that he will apply retrospectively.

Edited

He's never been prime minister before so I have no idea if he will be strong and decisive (I hope so) or if he will be KS no 2 who thinks rights of immigrants count for more than his own people.

Either way KS has shown us what he is made off, amply backed up by the incompetent, crying RR, rounded up by the fraud loving AR. Strong leadership NOT!

So yes I'm prepared to give NF his turn in the limelight to see what happens.

Other countries don't usually RESCIND an acquired status. That's what's unconscionable about his proposals. Making the rules tougher going forward is one thing. Pulling the rug under people's feet when they're settled and have their livelihoods and family in the country is inhumane.
