Really embarrassing poo question

l can't believe l'm typing this but l am! Full disclosure, l have a GP appointment next Thursday so l'm doing the right thing but just wondered if anyone at all had ever had problems getting themselves clean after a bowel movement??
l open my bowels, use either wet wipes or that Wype gel and 'think' l'm clean. I then go for a wee a little while later and it's like l've never wiped at all! I then have to go through the whole palaver and this can happen 2 or 3 times. It never used to happen so something has changed, although no clue what! I'm in my early 60's sometime constipated so l take Movicol which makes it softer, otherwise l'm at a loss to explain it, hence the GP appointment. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same? Sorry if this is TMI! But thanks anyone in advance!

This is me right now. I'm 43 and have 4 kids, I've had horrendous piles in all my pregnancies. When I go in the morning I have to squat over the shower head if I've any chance of getting clean, it's bloody annoying

Monster6 · 24/09/2025 18:47

If you’re constipated there will be poo just sitting in your rectum. It’s why some children/babies get UTIs if they’re constipated. Annoying. Try the shower as pp suggested? I think it’ll resolve when not constipated. ☺️

soupyspoon · 24/09/2025 18:50

If you google it, its quite common and yes is linked to constipation, slow motility, types of fibre and stool formation. Use magnesium.

AutumnWreath · 24/09/2025 18:51

I'm sure you are wiping successfully , but are you sure you are not leaking alittle or perhaps you have some bowel incontinence .
Either way making an appointment with your gp was the first step in getting to the bottom of it ( pun not intended )

The UK is so antiquated, go a bit more SE Asian:

Best £10 you'll ever spend.

Not up to UK code. Don't use. You'll be drinking poo water

Theunamedcat · 24/09/2025 18:56

Anal leakage it happens when your poop is softer

TartanMammy · 24/09/2025 19:03

Yes I have this issue, I have huge external piles after childbirth and 💩 just seems to go everywhere. Takes ages to get properly clean.

Dogsandhens · 24/09/2025 19:06

If it's not a medical issue it could be too much fat in your diet and not enough fibre. I read somewhere that if you have to wipe more than twice, this could be a solution.

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 24/09/2025 19:07

How’s your pelvic floor? Sounds like your sphincter isn’t closing properly.

Munchyseeds2 · 24/09/2025 19:10

I think it can be to do with your pelvic floor, try wiping until clean then clench all your muscles a few times, then wipe again

can you explain this more please? Is it all hoses or just this one?

APC303 · 24/09/2025 19:15

Former piles sufferer with a three dimensional arse here.... Absolute nuisance to wipe. Gets to the point where the enamel gets scuffed off and ends up with sore and bleeding arse. Asked GP about it while they were having a rummage around on something else and they just said "meh,... wet wipes".

BreezyPeachGoose · 24/09/2025 19:17

Jcak - I've just had a rummage on Google and found this:

I wasn't aware of this, every day's a school day!

Thank you to those who have responded. I really appreciate it. It's just reassuring to know that others have suffered, although l'm so sorry you have as it's miserable! I will post what the doctor says

This sounds like overflow from being constipated.

Skippydoodle · 24/09/2025 19:41

You could have external skin tags from previous piles. I have this and am considering private surgery to remove. No matter how clean I think I am, I can also have the issues you have mentioned. For the time being I have conditioned myself to ‘go’ first thing , followed by a thorough shower.

Jcak · 24/09/2025 19:12

can you explain this more please? Is it all hoses or just this one?

Not watched the video but I'm guessing there's no non return valve in it, so any nasties that get on the nozzle can contaminate the water, which can then backflow into the pipe and contaminate other water outlets.

It's a small scale version of how all those people in Brixham got cryptosporidium from a dodgy valve on a water pipe.

coldandflu · 24/09/2025 18:53

Is there a difference between using the bidet hose I linked to and showering off the poo using the shower head in the bath???

Is the key risk with the bidet hose, it being dropped into a toilet pan of contaminated water???

Ohthatsabitshit · 24/09/2025 19:51

Don’t be ridiculous, water doesn’t flow up a pipe and there are lots of couch/bidets seats available in the uk (and showers as pp queries).

Walkden · 24/09/2025 19:52

"Not watched the video but I'm guessing there's no non return valve in it,"

A non return valve is not sufficient for category 5 waste water an air gap is needed.. whatever device you buy needs wras approval or to be supplied for a separate water tank.

Walkden · 24/09/2025 19:56

"Don’t be ridiculous, water doesn’t flow up a pipe and there are lots of couch/bidets seats available in the uk (and showers as pp queries)."

You are showing your ignorance here. If the hose is dropped in the toilet and there is a fall in water pressure you can absolutely get fecal contamination of the water system.

It's a small risk but the regulations exist for a reason.

Frazzledandfried · 24/09/2025 19:56

Wype cleaning gel is good!

KermitTheToad · 24/09/2025 19:57

I have this issue too. Recently my workplace have changed to this weird unbleached toilet paper which is brown. No idea when I have finished wiping now.😁
