l can't believe l'm typing this but l am! Full disclosure, l have a GP appointment next Thursday so l'm doing the right thing but just wondered if anyone at all had ever had problems getting themselves clean after a bowel movement??
l open my bowels, use either wet wipes or that Wype gel and 'think' l'm clean. I then go for a wee a little while later and it's like l've never wiped at all! I then have to go through the whole palaver and this can happen 2 or 3 times. It never used to happen so something has changed, although no clue what! I'm in my early 60's sometime constipated so l take Movicol which makes it softer, otherwise l'm at a loss to explain it, hence the GP appointment. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same? Sorry if this is TMI! But thanks anyone in advance!

I have this and do have bothersome piles. I do wash my arse 2x daily, once showering in the morning and a quick blast at the end of the day.

I'm thinking of getting some Wype gel. Such fun how many new things we acquire the more middle aged we get. 🙄

I’ve been looking into help for rectoceles, and read that hypopressive exercises can help - it’s a method for strengthening your pelvic floor by sucking your stomach in to lift your diaphragm (sometimes known as stomach vacuums!). They can be useful for any type of pelvic floor prolapse apparently. Some pelvic floor physios are trained in this and could advise. I’ve also found a YouTube channel - hypopressives with Alice - looks promising. There’s a lot of free content but you can contact her for personalised programmes. I’m trying the free stuff to see if it helps!

I do too and can actually see my bowel bearing down due to gravity.. I also physically push back up. I have the same problem as the OP but never constipation. I also have IBS . Am 68 and was worrying about all of this for quite a while before I went to the GP a couple of years ago and all bloods came back fine, also the Bowel cancer poo test. Never had a scan or colonoscopy as the bloods were fine.
My husband had a poo test a yr ago. All apparently was fine, then he had a major emergency op and a stoma fitted 9 months ago., followed by chemo. He is fine now, looking forward to a reconstruction this year/next yr. The poo test is not always reliable so best to see a doctor.

How scary..I hope the reconstruction goes well 🙏

Had this issue for years now, am late 50's.
Not exactly sure of the cause but likely connected to allergy and pelvic floor.

If bum gets a bit sore, or if you've wiped alot savlon cream, the plain white one, dabbed on and wiped off is soothing and limits itching from dried poop.

Walkden · 25/09/2025 21:29

"This is quite an ignorant comment. Completely misunderstanding basic plumbing.
And we don’t have ‘codes’ in the UK."

It's really not that ignorant, seeing as the device this poster was referring to are against UK regulations due to the risk of contaminating water supplies with fecal matter / bacteria etc, unless Installed with very expensive air gap valves or water tanks etc

That’s the thing though, define “should”. Isn’t it common for women’s bodies to change after giving birth?

I have piles, having had no piles before kids. My body is as it should be, in that it’s normal for its age and experiences. I struggle to wipe clean now in the way I did before but short of having surgery, I’m not sure what I can do. It’s not always practical to have a shower after using the toilet.

I think it’s refreshing to see it’s a common issue - us women should be able to be honest and open about what our lives look like as we age (as should men).

In a few decades, I’m sure I’ll be wetting throughout the day, needing pads. Again - not nice but completely normal!

Actually it’s not normal. Common yes, but not normal.

I’ve just had surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, including my bladder, and as my urogynaecologist told me - common and normal aren’t the same thing and too many women don’t do anything about their bladder and bowel issues because they think it’s normal

MabelMoo23 · 25/09/2025 21:42

This to me sounds like a rectocele.

I’m on my sofa recovering from pelvic organ prolapse surgery- I had a cystocele (bladder) and a rectocele (rectum) and I had this exact same problem.

I’d have a bowel movement, clean myself etc and then later, feel myself leaking.

you need to see an urogynaecologist and probably a pelvic physio as well

You can get hand held bidets that have their own water tank integrated. They look suspiciously like water flossers and electric toothbrushes so don't get them muddled up first thing in the morning 😂

😝

TheQuirkyMaker · 25/09/2025 22:28

I will tell you this, I am an alcoholic and suffer from diverticulitis. If I ever ask you to move from a public toilet, you will regret not doing what I ask.

OneDaringGreenBiscuit · 25/09/2025 22:30

I am in my late 60's and for the last 3 years, I have the wiping problem. I am not constipated but a bowel movement of fairly normal stool is followed by a quite loose one, which takes many wipes to clean. I get quite sore/itchy at times. I don't have high fat diet as I had gall stones about 15 years ago and after surgery to remove gall bladder, I can't tolerate much fat and get reflux if I try. In the last 3 years I started to get reflux more often especially at night. I have been on Omeprazole, but that is not good in long term so I am trying to manage with Gaviscon. So mine seems related to a bile production problem. I was told problems like this can have a few causes or no obvious one. Washing is the best answer, but I can still get sore. Dr said drying gently and putting a small amount of Vaseline as a barrier would help, it does a bit.

You could have external skin tags from previous piles. I have this and am considering private surgery to remove. No matter how clean I think I am, I can also have the issues you have mentioned. For the time being I have conditioned myself to ‘go’ first thing , followed by a thorough shower.

Same here. Skin tags and piles. I get up early and trained my body in to going first thing and then have a very good shower!

Ifonlyiweretaller · 25/09/2025 23:00

Gosh I thought I was the only one suffering until I’ve read this thread! I’d say it started about 3 years ago for me, and I’m so embarrassed when I put my underwear in the washing basket at the end of each day - folding it so no-one else sees the unpleasantness 😟Doesn’t matter how much loo roll I use, or how much Wype I use, there is still a residue afterwards. It really gets me down. I’m not sur3 what the answer is, but strang3vthough it sounds, at least I know it’s not just me who’s going through this 😌

limetrees32 · 26/09/2025 06:26

@SprayBottleandTP as far as I know plumbers working with water pipes only in the UK are not regulated. No licence.

I think building regulations stipulate the rules over water pipes and the type of fittings that can be used. Anyone working in related trades should know what they are doing regardless of any registration etc. I worked for a DIY chain a few years ago when staff used to get a bit of training on advising DIYers what they can and cannot do. Even DIYers should do research on things they are not qualified or trained in. A big problem with the Internet is people can buy things not normally available in the UK and not subject to our safety standards.

The13thFairy · 26/09/2025 09:47

I use a lota I got from Amazon. Sometimes you could wipe all day, but a good slosh of water will do the trick.

The13thFairy · 26/09/2025 10:00

Wishiwasatailor · 24/09/2025 21:58

@Familynightmare1 its because the hose could fall in the toilet bowl and because if the negative pressure toilet water could get into the pipe contaminating the water supply pipe

I used these in the Middle East and after use it's turned off and 'holstered' before you stand up and get dressed. How could it end up in the toilet water? It doesn't have a life of its own.

Nevertriedcaviar · 26/09/2025 10:04

I use wet wipes, usually 3 or 4, until there is nothing showing on the wipe. I wish someone would invent wet toilet paper. I know it would dry up on a normal roll, but it could be dispensed from a sealed box.

Just use toilet paper and wet a couple of sheets a bit before use. There's usually a washbasin handy.

Donetrying1 · 26/09/2025 15:40

Goodness! I never realised how common the problem was when l started this thread, and how many people suffer! I have bought myself a fibre drink similar to fybogel so l will give that a try, but l am seeing the GP next Thursday and will definitely report back, hopefully they'll have some answers!!
A big thank you to everyone who has so kindly replied

We are Italians and have a bidet in our bathroom i couldn't be without it

JazzHandsFeet · 26/09/2025 21:28

I don’t think a bidet is the issue, it’s not that she’s (apologies for speaking for you OP if incorrect) not cleaning herself thoroughly, it’s that it’s not there to be cleaned at the time. I suspect she could have a full shower but 30 minutes later the problem would be there, it’s basically slowly appearing for a short while afterward.

Exactly this. People commenting all through this thread about bidents and basins and showers and baths and hygiene havent got a clue about this issue.

Its an internal issue, its not about cleaning yourself properly. Its about stool formation and evacuation. Usually caused by rectocile (got told off on another thread about spelling this wrong and still cant spell it), constipation, diet and digestion issues.

its nothing to do with personal hygiene.

Yes and in fact I suspect if you’re suffering from this you spend infinitely more time on personal hygiene than people that don’t! To the point it’s painful.
