Sick of hearing about "bits"

HelloDenise · 20/09/2025 01:11

I'm fed up of reading about people going to B&M, Home Bargains, Next, M&S, the pound shop or wherever to get some autumn .... BITS!

Throws, pumpkins, candles, cushions, foliage, wreaths and garlands ARE NOT BLOODY BITS! They're whole, substantial items, not bits of items .

Where the hell did this come from? Or should I be on Pedants' corner?

Misses point of thread

Haha same🤣

bridgetreilly · 21/09/2025 20:46

They are bits, though. Bits and pieces.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/09/2025 20:53

I’m with you OP on the grounds that the phrase encourages over consumerism and spending all our hard earned money on rubbish.

Makes it sound like not real spending, but it is. Everything you buy is an actual whole purchase and you should genuinely want it if you’re going to buy it.

Bits n bobs or stuff but that's for general things.

I sympathise with you. With me it's the word 'super'. Everyone around me is saying it these days in an animated type way, putting emphasis on the 'super'.

Me: it's so wet today. Them: 'Yes, it's a suuper wet day today'.

Me: Hi how are you! Them: 'Sorry I'm late, my bus was suuper late today'

Driving me bananas 🍌 😅

Edited

Yes! I've been annoyed by people adding 'super' in front of everything for ages now! It really winds me up! Surely when something is excellent or great, it doesn't need the word 'super' added in front of it to get the point across?!

Kaci wants to earn abit of cash, she’s done her wardrobe out as “her style has changed” most bits not worn. Price in comment of pics.

😱
(Perfect example)

Cuttlefisher · 22/09/2025 07:46

The bits do not bother me. It is very clever of the shops to make everyone think they need to go and spend money on new stuff every season. Converting money into landfill. [fun sponge]

Maybe she could “pop” her “bits” on Vinted.
(See my PP where I also dislike people popping things)

Picky tea annoys me more than picky bits and suddenly it was everywhere. Like, where did it come from? Who decided that sosig rolls and some chorizo was a thing? Probably spawned from the same stagnant and ominously gurgling pond as cozzie livs and platty jubes. However I take your bits and raise you fucking boxes for everything. It started earnestly enough I think with people adopting the Germanic tradition of Christmas Eve boxes, however the concept has mutated horrifically and now we have 'brrr boxes' (for months with ber in to help the poor recipient cope with the seasonal change) and 'boo boxes' filled with Halloween shite. See also, pumpkin patches - a load of 50p pumpkins dumped in a field with a £20 mark up. And that fucker Elf on the Shelf can get fucked, too. I blame Instagram for most of society's ills right now.

Absolutely. I completely agree. It winds me up no end too. Everything is suuper these days! 🧐😅
