Sick of hearing about "bits"

HelloDenise · 20/09/2025 01:11

I'm fed up of reading about people going to B&M, Home Bargains, Next, M&S, the pound shop or wherever to get some autumn .... BITS!

Throws, pumpkins, candles, cushions, foliage, wreaths and garlands ARE NOT BLOODY BITS! They're whole, substantial items, not bits of items .

Where the hell did this come from? Or should I be on Pedants' corner?

Seasonal home decor is nuts…in your opinion. I quite like it and will leave my Autumn gonk sitting happily in my porch until he gets changed for Halloween and then again for Christmas.

Just find it odd how annoyed some people get over harmless decisions made by people they’ve never met, that will have no effect on them at all. I hate the judgemental world we live in at the moment. That annoys me way more than whether someone changes their cushions to match the seasons or has picky bits for tea!

If you read my OP I'm not annoyed by people buying seasonal decorations, as I've said I do it myself.

But they are cushions, throws and wreaths. Not bits.

When hipster type waiting staff ask if you if you want ‘shrooms’ or ‘guac’ with your meal these words boil my blood

And avo!

What a let down…knew I should have gone to the sex board.

I wonder if they'll start buying Christmas "bits" as well.

And they will be out and about getting bits and bobs - 23rd to 24th December - as just need to get a few bits

Phoenixfire1988 · 21/09/2025 01:49

It winds me right the F up aswell !

Apologies for misreading your OP. I think I got carried away with the number of people complaining about others who were buying these things and find it hard to understand why it upsets them so much. Apologies for directing my frustration at these people towards you.

With regards to calling them “bits” - I can see why others might choose not to use that term, but not why it would irritate them so much when others do! In my head it’s a perfectly reasonable and inoffensive name as they are “bits” in the sense that they are parts of the whole decor in the room.

MyPinkTraybake · 21/09/2025 11:08

Tat.

Tat is what you are going to buy.

I'm going to buy some seasonal tat.

Just admit it 🤣

I absolutely admit it’s tat😂😂 i’ll
also freely admit that it’s tat (or bits!!) that I don’t need. I just want them! (But I do buy
them to reuse each year, so not quite landfill tat!!)
Tat, bits, seasonal cushions and decor…we all know what is being referred to. Just not sure why the word ‘bits’ is so triggering to some people!

Edited

It's not triggering exactly. It's a useful way to sort people into Bits People/ non Bits People and go from there. Eg it would be very hard for me personally to be able to have a friend that says she's just nipping to Marksies for some picky bits for tea. It just wouldn't happen. 100% guaranteed.

MyRubyFox · 21/09/2025 17:45

Yeah me too!

Yeah, I was disappointed also

The whole bits thing makes me cringe, it's like when people say ' I've nipped in tesco for some bits' gives me the ick

Buffs · 21/09/2025 17:57

Omg I totally agree.I cannot tell you how many times my blood pressure has shot up either the mention of picking up ‘bits’. It is so hard to give the OP a fair hearing. While I’m on a roll it also drives me mad when people refer to their baby as baby.

FeetLikeFlippers · 21/09/2025 18:00

I’ve not heard anyone saying that (and yes I thought it was going to be about genitals as well) but christ I hate that shit. Cheap disposable tat that nobody needs. It’s bad enough in the likes of Poundland and TK Maxx but even the charity shops are at it now, selling new stuff that’s probably been shipped from China. It’s depressing isn’t it?

abouttogetlynched · 21/09/2025 18:07

Same. I’m similarly sick of “popping” - just popping to the shop for some bits. Just pop a… well I can’t think of anything now, but pisses me off when I hear it nearly as much as when I see it written.

Loveawineandacrisp · 21/09/2025 18:23

I’m not a fan of saying I went shopping and got some ‘bits.’

But what I hate more is when people on tik tok, call their shopping a ‘haul’. So they say, let me show you my Home Bargains ‘haul’. When it’s stuff you can get in most supermarkets and nothing special.

WhitePudding · 21/09/2025 18:25

I have no autumnal nick nacks. I’m also over ‘picky bits’. If I may add too, Love Island bikinis when I’m swimming.

JJMama · 21/09/2025 18:28

The word should be banned. ‘Bits and bobs’ and people who are upset being in ‘bits’ makes me feel slightly nauseated. Not heard it applied to autumn furnishings, but yes that’s awful too.

Magsbd · 21/09/2025 18:30

I’ve never heard of ‘bits’ in this context.

xsquared · 21/09/2025 18:31

The worst is "picky bits". Fuck right off!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 21/09/2025 18:31

OwlBeThere · 20/09/2025 02:24

The phrase ‘picky bits’ makes me murderous. 😂

Hahahahaha I thought the thread was going to be about picky bits.

Love picky bits me.

Also love picking up a few bits from the shops.

Its ok im a big girl i can take the hate 🤣

PurpleChrayn · 21/09/2025 18:32

Worst of all is “doing bits”. As in, “B&M’s autumn bits are doing bits this year”.

So they bought a load of plastic shite and fast fashion that they will wear once and it go in landfill.

Round here doing bits is a euphemism for class A drugs 😂😂😂
