I am scared my husband will be beaten or worse

I am married to a man who is brown and from Asia, he's been in UK 10 years and is a citizen. I am English and have always lived in the UK.
We are leaving where we live to move closer to my parents, which I am happy about for many reasons one being where we live right now is an incredibly hostile and racist place. One of the worst in all of the UK and has been for some time.
The area we are moving to is nice enough and we should be safe in our home l, which we aren't really now.

I am scared everyday when my husband goes out that he will be assaulted for being brown with an accent. I am also scared the same will be the case for when we move with the uptake in angry, mindless fake-news concerning people who look like him.

He is shouted at and people are aggressive already and we've both seen how it has gotten worse. Where we live people are burnt of their homes for not being white so my view of all this is coloured by that but not unfairly so.

Where do you live currently? I had not realised this was happening in the UK.

I’m utterly horrified that this is how you feel OP, I m so sorry that your community has caused you fear. This is a heartbreaking reminder about how f!cked the UK has become.

I hope you’re happy and safe in your new home

Readyforslippers · 13/09/2025 17:46

I am so sorry, I can't imagine what that must feel like. It's embarrassing that so many are joining in with such nasty, hateful actions. I hope you are both able to stay safe.

Typical white privilege, being unaware on what’s going on around them.

I cant find any instance of this in the media - and it would be all over it. I think white men are much more likely to be attacked.

in the kindest way OP, and I understand why, you seem to have been swayed into panic by social media.

Perhaps but I've not seen or heard any media reports of racists burning people of colour out of their homes could you provide some evidence of this occurring in the uk

I dont want to say where we live as it would be outing, but there have been and continue to be attacks such as this. After a few they stopped being reported.

That's pretty unlikely to be the case, just because you haven't seen it does not make it untrue. Op is feeling unsafe, perhaps a touch of empathy and understanding might be a better response?

Exactly! I'm sure if this was happening then the BBC and the Guardian at least would be reporting it. Evidence please @mushroomsoupandcoke

Thats fine, you don't have to.

My post still stands though, I am frightened my husband won't come home because of what he looks like.

This is why I was asking. I've not seen it reported and it doesn't happen where I live so am asking to be educated on what is happening elsewhere in the UK.

Racist attacks are quite commonplace, it's not hard to imagine that they would go unreported.

That's not fair. This person might not even stay in the UK!

Perhaps, then please tell me how I can remain calm. This isn't something thats a brand new feeling, it has been this way since we got together. Help me to see he can and will be safe.

It was widely reported in NI this summer.

AllrightNowBaby · 13/09/2025 17:59

Total bollocks

AnotherNaCha · 13/09/2025 17:59

It’s not outing to say where you are, as there’s plenty of married couples that fit your description. Things are only outing if there’s several very personal facts all in together

Chiseltip · 13/09/2025 17:59

The rally in London today was so much bigger than anyone had anticipated. I've just been watching the coverage and I have to say, I'm somewhat disturbed. The media are suggesting 100k in attendance, but clearly it's many times that number. I felt like I was in a Black Mirror episode. I could literally see the numbers of people on screen, but the reporter was talking about a different number.

Why?

What is going on with our news media?

Something VERY worrying is happening but the media are literally lying about it.

Why?

I feel for you and your Husband. I think Charlie Kirks murder was the catalyst for a HUGE surge of pent up emotion and and anger to be let out. I've never seen anything like what happened in London today. Two weeks ago, I drove almost the entire length of the M4 and then half the M25, almost EVERY overpass and bridge had either a Union Jack or George's Cross flying from the railings. At the time, I thought how odd, how strange, now I know why.

I don't think your Husband is any physical danger. However, I think societal changes will make it very difficult for you both to live here. Today was a turning point in the UK, I really hate to say it, but I think it's true.

We are heading down a VERY dark path.

So we just have your word for it. The media with a massive interest in immigration on both sides got bored of reporting racially motivated arson? How many people were burned out of their homes before the press moved on.

Im sorry but I’m not sure I’m in a position to believe this was actually happening - it doesn’t stack up - you might have been misled by false reporting on social media.

Can do without the racial slur, stereotyping white people, thanks.
